Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Ancelotti Blueprint

"Montella! Look at this! The Italian media is calling it 'The Miracle of Merseyside'!"

On the private charter flight back to Florence, the team manager, Daniel, was vibrating with caffeine and pure adrenaline. He shoved his tablet toward Vincenzo Montella, showing the explosion of praise on social media.

Montella raised a finger to his lips, pointing at the rows of sleeping players. "Shhh. Let the boys sleep. They left everything on that pitch."

Daniel lowered his voice, but the grin remained. "I can't help it, Vincenzo. Four matches into the second half of the season, and we're perfect. The fans who were calling for our heads in December are now calling you a tactical genius. It's vindication!"

The Gattuso Factor

Montella leaned back, staring out the window at the dark clouds over the English Channel. He wasn't thinking about the headlines; he was thinking about the tactical evolution he had just witnessed.

Everton was supposed to be their ceiling. Instead, Fiorentina had smashed through it with four goals. As he replayed the match in his head, one realization stood out: Milan Badelj.

By instructing Badelj to act as Renzo's personal bodyguard, Montella had inadvertently recreated the most famous midfield dynamic in Italian history: Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso.

Ten years ago, Montella had faced that legendary AC Milan side. He remembered the frustration of trying to get near Pirlo, only to be leveled by the "Butcher" Gattuso.

If I make this permanent, Montella mused, if Badelj accepts that his only job is to be Renzo's shadow, how far can we go? He looked at Alberto Aquilani, snoring softly three rows up. The veteran had found his "second spring" because he no longer had to carry the creative burden alone. And Marcos Alonso? The boy had played like a man possessed today. Renzo wasn't just playing well; he was a "Force Multiplier." He made everyone around him 20% better.

The Liverpool Meltdown

"You know," Montella whispered to Daniel, "Renzo's performance today... it's going to make life very difficult for a certain club in North England."

Daniel's laugh was a low, wicked chuckle. "Difficult? Vincenzo, it's a bloodbath. I checked the Liverpool forums before we took off. Their fans are absolutely savage."

The irony was delicious. Liverpool, a club historic for its European nights, was currently rotting in 10th place in the Premier League, lacking any spark in the middle of the park. Meanwhile, the teenager they sent away for "experience" had just recorded a hat-trick of assists against a top-six English side.

"The English media is already sharpening their knives," Daniel added. "By tomorrow morning, Brendan Rodgers will have to answer why the best young playmaker in Europe is wearing purple instead of red."

Montella glanced over at Renzo. The boy was fast asleep, his head tilted against the window, the match ball still tucked under his arm like a childhood teddy bear.

Sleep well, kid, Montella thought. Because when we land in Italy, you won't be a 'loan prospect' anymore. You'll be the most hunted man in Serie A.
