Chapter 2: Kisses Under the Forbidden Rain

Pulling Sebastian from the temporal void required a massive manipulation of the city's energy records. When Sebastian finally materialized in Lena's lab, he collapsed to the ground, gasping for air saturated with ozone and chlorine. His clothes gave off the scent of coal, real rain, and the pages of old books—scents that Lena had only read about in forbidden archives.

She hid him in her secret apartment, far from the eyes of the "Compatibility Units" that roamed the streets searching for any unlicensed emotional frequency. [In those first days, Sebastian touched everything cautiously, stumbling before doors that slid open automatically, staring at touchscreens as if they were an unsolvable magic. Lena would smile each time he cried out in surprise when some device made an unexpected sound.] Sebastian watched the city from behind the transparent glass; he saw cars floating silently, people walking like ghosts with expressionless faces.

"Why do they kill those who love, Lena?" Sebastian asked, touching the apartment's metal wall.

She answered bitterly, "Because love is the only loophole they can't control. Love makes us unpredictable, and the system lives on digital certainty. To them, killing isn't punishment—it's 'deleting corrupted data.'"

In those days, they lived in a romantic isolation that felt like a dance on the edge of the guillotine. Sebastian, with his old-world accent and gentle emotions, began melting the ice that had encased Lena's heart for years. He taught her how to read poetry, how to describe her feelings without using genetic terminology. And one night, when Lena manipulated the apartment's climate system to simulate a spring rain, Sebastian pulled her under the artificial droplets.

That first kiss was a scream in the face of the system. They both felt a rush of adrenaline, which caused Lena's wristband to emit a faint red flash: "Alert: Unprogrammed emotional activity."

She trembled in his arms as she spoke: "They'll kill us, Sebastian. The system will consider your existence a genetic contamination, and my love for you high treason."

He held her face with his rough hands: "If death is inevitable, let it find us feeling alive for the first time. I will defy the laws of physics, and you will defy the laws of men. Let us create a time where no one dares to touch our hearts."

But the dream shattered when alarms blared in the hallway; the "Purification Units" had detected the "anomalous temporal particle" hidden in her apartment.
