Chapter 77 - Chapter 77 – The Command Seal

Ren moved first.

Too fast.

The chakra in his palm exploded outward—

a twisting mass of black and crimson.

Kushina's chains struck the floor.

They formed a wall in front of the group.

The attack hit.

Metal screamed.

The entire tunnel shook.

Golden links bent beneath the pressure—

but did not break.

"Kushina!"

"I'm holding it!"

The black chakra crawled across her chains.

Not burning them.

Entering them.

Searching for the chakra network connected to their source.

Kurama growled.

"…release them…"

Kushina pulled the chains back.

A second before the darkness reached her body—

they vanished.

Ren's attack crashed into the wall behind them.

Stone and metal disappeared.

Not shattered.

Erased.

Silence followed.

Only for a heartbeat.

Then Ren appeared through the dust.

Black seals covered his body.

They tightened with every movement—

pulling his arms and legs like invisible strings.

His expression twisted in pain.

But his eyes remained fixed on Kushina.

"Move…"

His voice barely escaped.

"Please…"

The markings around his throat burned.

His body lunged forward again.

Minato intercepted him.

A kunai struck Ren's wrist—

redirecting the next attack toward the ceiling.

Black chakra tore through the metal above them.

Minato appeared behind him.

Two seal tags landed against Ren's shoulders.

"Release."

The tags flashed.

For one moment—

the control lines across Ren's arms broke.

His hands dropped.

His eyes cleared.

Then the seal around his heart pulsed.

Both tags turned black.

Minato jumped away as they exploded.

Ren spun.

His heel caught Minato across the chest.

Minato struck the wall hard.

Kushina's chains caught him before he hit the ground.

"Minato!"

"I'm fine."

He pushed himself upright.

A thin line of blood ran from the corner of his mouth.

Kushina's chakra surged.

Ren saw it.

Fear crossed his face.

Not fear of her.

Fear of what his body was about to do.

"Don't get angry."

The command seal tightened.

His hand rose again.

"Please…"

A black blade formed around his fingers.

"…don't give it more."

Kushina froze.

The Voice.

It amplified what already existed.

And the control seals were forcing Ren to attack—

while the tunnel fed on every emotion around them.

Her rage was not only making her stronger.

It was making the entire system stronger.

She took one breath.

Then another.

The chains behind her steadied.

"I'm not angry."

Daichi glanced toward the destroyed wall.

"That is clearly untrue."

"I'm choosing not to use it."

Ren attacked.

Three chains shot forward.

Not at his body.

At the black lines extending from his wrists.

The golden links passed through flesh—

without touching it—

and closed around the control formulas beneath his skin.

Ren gasped.

Kushina felt the seals immediately.

Cold.

Layered.

Connected to every wall in the tunnel.

"He isn't just being controlled by the marks."

Daichi threw another kunai toward Ren's feet.

"What else?"

"The entire tunnel is pulling him."

Ren tore one arm free.

A wave of dark chakra struck Kushina.

Hana stepped between them.

The circle on her neck flashed.

The attack changed direction—

curving toward her.

"Hana!"

Ren's face filled with horror.

His body did not stop.

The black blade drove toward her chest.

Renji moved.

Despite the chain supporting his body—

despite the cracked core beneath his ribs—

he threw himself in front of Hana.

The blade entered his shoulder.

White light burst from the wound.

Renji made no sound.

His hand closed around Ren's wrist.

"Enough."

Ren stared at him.

His eyes widened.

"You…"

The shifting chakra inside Renji reacted.

Blue fire spread down his injured arm.

Gold followed.

The black blade cracked between them.

Renji twisted Ren's wrist.

The weapon shattered.

Then his knees gave way.

Hana caught him.

"Renji!"

"I am functional."

White chakra poured between her fingers.

"You have a hole in your shoulder."

"A temporary complication."

Kushina's chain wrapped around his chest—

holding the core together as it flashed violently.

"Stop trying to die!"

Renji looked toward her.

"I prevented injury to Hana."

"You replaced it with your own."

"Yes."

"That isn't better!"

"It is from my perspective."

Ren's body convulsed.

The command seals dragged him upright.

His eyes moved toward Renji's wound.

Something in his expression changed.

Recognition.

Not of Renji.

Of the chakra leaking from him.

"The pieces…"

Renji looked up.

"What?"

Ren's voice shook.

"I heard them."

The black marks around his mouth tightened.

He screamed.

His hands slammed against his own head.

"Get out!"

The researcher's voice filled the tunnel.

"Subject R-Twelve."

Ren froze.

Every black seal across his body ignited.

"Resume retrieval."

His head lifted.

His eyes went empty.

Renji tried to stand.

Hana held him back.

"You can't."

"He will kill her."

"He's fighting it."

"He is losing."

Kushina stepped in front of them.

"No."

Her chains spread across the chamber.

"He's surviving."

Ren launched himself toward her.

Kushina did not move.

At the final second—

she turned.

His fist passed beside her face.

She caught his wrist.

The black seal burned against her palm.

Images struck her mind.

A boy kneeling in a white room.

Red hair hanging across his face.

A masked researcher tightening restraints around his arms.

"Your grandfather survived the destruction of Uzushiogakure."

A seal pressed into the boy's chest.

"You should be proud."

Ren screamed.

"His blood gave us decades of research."

Another seal.

Another.

"Yours will finish it."

Kushina tore herself from the memory.

Ren's free hand struck her stomach.

Air left her lungs.

She slid across the metal floor.

Minato appeared between them.

A line of kunai surrounded Ren.

Seal threads connected each blade.

A cage formed.

Ren hit the barrier.

Once.

Twice.

The black markings entered the threads.

Minato's eyes narrowed.

"He's corrupting the formula."

Daichi appeared beside him.

"Change the chakra direction."

"To what?"

"Back toward the source."

Daichi placed his palm against the floor.

A circular formula spread beneath the cage.

The black chakra stopped travelling outward.

Then reversed.

Ren screamed.

The command lines inside his body pulled backward—

through the floor—

toward the laboratory's central system.

The researcher's voice sharpened.

"Daichi."

Daichi pressed harder.

"You always relied too heavily on connected seals."

The walls began to crack.

Black formulas flashed through the corridor.

"You designed them."

"And I know where they fail."

Kushina pushed herself upright.

Pain moved through her stomach.

Kurama's chakra rose.

Warm.

Violent.

Ready.

"…let me break him…"

"No."

"…the one controlling him…"

"I know what you meant."

She wiped blood from her lip.

"We need the researcher alive."

"…why…"

"So he can explain everything before I break him."

Kurama rumbled approvingly.

"…better…"

The cage around Ren flickered.

For several seconds—

the reversed seal worked.

The markings across his face began to fade.

His eyes cleared.

He looked toward Daichi.

"You know this system."

Daichi remained focused on the floor.

"Yes."

"You built it?"

Silence.

Ren's expression hardened.

"You helped them."

"I helped create an emergency restraint network."

"For whom?"

Daichi's hand trembled.

Barely.

"Akane."

Ren stared at him.

The researcher laughed through the lights.

"Tell him the rest."

Daichi's jaw tightened.

The reversed formula weakened.

"Not now."

"Oh, I think now is perfect."

A screen awakened behind Ren.

Old footage appeared.

Akane stood inside a containment circle.

Her red hair moved wildly around her.

Chakra chains struck the walls.

Daichi stood outside the barrier—

younger.

Blood covering one side of his face.

His hands formed seal after seal.

The black network tightened around Akane.

She fell to her knees.

Kushina stared at the recording.

Daichi did not look up.

"You sealed her."

"I stopped her from destroying the facility."

The researcher's voice remained calm.

"And delivered her directly into our care."

Daichi's chakra faltered.

The cage around Ren cracked.

Kushina looked toward him.

"Daichi."

"She was losing control."

"That isn't what I asked."

He finally looked at her.

"I thought they could help her."

The screen showed masked figures entering the chamber.

Akane reached toward Daichi.

He remained on the other side of the barrier.

The footage ended.

Ren broke through the cage.

The barrier exploded.

Minato pulled Daichi backward.

Kushina's chains caught Ren around the waist.

He twisted in the air—

black chakra cutting through the first link.

Then the second.

The third held.

Ren landed several feet from her.

His breathing came fast.

His eyes shifted between Kushina and Daichi.

"He gave her to them."

The command seal pulsed again.

Anger entered his chakra.

His own anger.

The Voice found it immediately.

Blackness spread across the floor.

The researcher spoke:

"Bring me the Guardian."

Ren's body moved.

But this time—

he moved toward Daichi.

The system hesitated.

The command seal pulled one direction.

Ren's rage pulled another.

His muscles tore beneath the conflict.

Blood ran down his arms.

Kushina felt the Voice rising through the tunnel.

Feeding on him.

"Ren!"

He could not hear her.

His eyes remained fixed on Daichi.

"You are the reason she stayed."

Daichi did not raise his weapon.

"Yes."

"You let them hurt her."

"Yes."

"You knew what they were."

"No."

Ren reached him.

His black blade formed again.

Daichi remained still.

"I learned too late."

The blade stopped against his throat.

Ren's entire body shook.

The command seals pulled him toward Kushina.

His anger held him beside Daichi.

Two forces tearing him apart.

"Fight it," Daichi said.

Ren's face twisted.

"Don't tell me what to do."

"Good."

A pause.

"Use that."

Ren stared at him.

"Your anger is yours."

The Voice pressed through the walls.

The black blade grew longer.

Daichi did not move.

"But decide what you do with it."

Ren screamed.

The blade changed direction.

He drove it into the floor.

Black chakra exploded beneath him.

The command lines connecting him to the tunnel became visible—

hundreds of thin strands stretching from his body into the walls.

Kushina understood.

"Minato!"

He was already beside her.

"What do you need?"

"Cut every line at once."

"That many?"

"Can you do it?"

His eyes moved across the chamber.

"Yes."

A pause.

"But not alone."

Kushina's chains filled the tunnel.

Each golden link wrapped around one black thread.

One by one.

Dozens.

Hundreds.

Every connection entered her awareness.

Pain.

Commands.

Memories.

The researcher's voice.

The Voice beneath the mountain.

Ren's fear.

His rage.

His desperate need to remain himself.

The weight almost forced Kushina to her knees.

Minato placed his hand against her back.

His chakra entered the chains.

Precise.

Calm.

Guiding each connection.

Daichi joined them.

His formula spread through the floor.

Hana placed one hand around a golden link.

The remaining Guardian Binding inside her answered.

Even Renji reached for the nearest chain.

His broken core flashed.

The stolen Bijuu fragments surged into the network.

Ren stood at the center.

Every line connected to him.

Kushina met his eyes.

"This is going to hurt."

A broken laugh escaped him.

"It already does."

"Ready?"

"No."

"Good enough."

Minato formed a single hand sign.

"Now."

The chains pulled.

Not Ren.

The commands.

Every black thread was torn from the tunnel walls at once.

The corridor erupted.

Seal formulas shattered.

Lights exploded.

Metal folded inward.

Ren screamed as the lines were ripped through his chakra network.

Kushina felt each one break.

Wrist.

Shoulder.

Spine.

Heart.

Throat.

Eyes.

Then—

one remained.

A thick black connection buried deep inside his chest.

It did not lead toward the researcher.

It stretched in the opposite direction.

Toward Hana.

Toward Renji.

Toward the distant mountain.

The Voice.

Kushina's breath stopped.

"The organization isn't the only thing controlling him."

Hana's mark burned.

She gasped.

Renji's core answered.

Ren's eyes turned black.

The final thread tightened.

The Voice spoke through him.

"He was mine before you arrived."

Ren's body rose from the ground.

Dark chakra surrounded him.

Kushina's chains strained.

The Voice continued:

"The hunters only taught him how to listen."

Ren's hand closed around the golden chain.

Blackness entered it.

Kushina's mind filled with whispers.

Daichi betrayed Akane.

Kurama lied.

Hana would be taken.

Renji would die.

Minato would eventually leave.

Everyone would.

The Voice did not create those fears.

It found them.

Pressed against them.

Made them louder.

Kushina's grip weakened.

One chain vanished.

Then another.

Minato's hand tightened against her back.

"Kushina."

She could barely hear him.

The whispers continued.

You will fail them.

Minato spoke again.

"You are not alone."

Akane's message returned.

Not as a voice.

As memory.

The moment you believe you're alone… you've already lost.

Kushina opened her eyes.

Her chains returned.

Brighter.

"No."

The Voice pressed harder.

"They all depend on you."

"No."

"And you cannot save them all."

Kushina looked around her.

Minato's chakra inside the chains.

Daichi holding the reversed seal.

Hana anchoring the vessel connection.

Renji using the fragments to stabilize the network.

Ren fighting from inside his own body.

"They're not depending only on me."

The golden links tightened.

"We're saving each other."

Ren's eyes flickered.

Black—

then clear.

"Cut it."

Kushina stared at the final thread.

It passed directly through his heart.

"If we cut that—"

"I know."

"You could die."

His lips formed a weak smile.

"You say that often."

Renji looked toward him.

"The connection is fused to your chakra core."

Ren's gaze moved to the artificial man.

"You survived yours breaking."

"Barely."

"Then help me do the same."

Renji forced himself upright.

Hana supported him.

His injured shoulder leaked white light.

"I do not know how."

Ren looked toward the shifting colors beneath his skin.

"You carry pieces of creatures that survived being divided."

Kurama became still inside Kushina.

Renji's mismatched eye widened.

The Bijuu fragments reacted.

Not to the Voice.

To Ren.

His refusal.

His choice.

Blue fire travelled through the golden chain.

Then gold.

Purple.

Red.

The fragments surrounded the black thread inside Ren's chest.

Not cutting it.

Protecting the chakra around it.

Kurama's voice entered Kushina's mind.

"…now…"

She raised both hands.

Every chain pulled toward the final connection.

"Ren."

His eyes met hers.

"What is your name?"

He stared at her.

The question struck deeper than any command.

"Ren Uzumaki."

The black thread trembled.

"Again."

"Ren Uzumaki."

The Voice screamed.

"R-Twelve."

Ren's jaw tightened.

"Ren Uzumaki."

Kushina pulled.

The final thread snapped.

Darkness exploded from Ren's chest.

The force threw everyone backward.

Kushina hit the floor.

The chains vanished.

Every light in the tunnel went out.

For several seconds—

nothing existed except silence.

Then someone coughed.

Hana.

A weak groan followed.

Renji.

Minato's hand found Kushina's shoulder.

"I'm here."

She pushed herself upright.

"Daichi?"

"Alive."

His voice came from somewhere near the wall.

Kushina looked toward the center of the chamber.

"Ren?"

No answer.

A single emergency light flickered on.

Ren lay motionless on the floor.

The black seals remained across his body—

but they no longer glowed.

Kushina crawled toward him.

Her fingers found his neck.

Nothing.

"No."

She pressed her hand against his chest.

Still nothing.

"Minato!"

He appeared beside her.

Daichi followed.

They examined the broken seal around Ren's heart.

Minato's expression tightened.

"The command line damaged his chakra core."

Kushina placed both hands over the mark.

"Then fix it."

Daichi shook his head.

"We need a stabilizing source."

Kushina looked toward Renji.

His vessel core flashed weakly.

"No," Renji said.

She had not spoken.

He already understood.

"If I connect my core to him—"

"It could break completely," Daichi finished.

Renji looked toward Ren.

"He protected Hana before he knew us."

Hana stared at him.

"You don't owe him your life."

"No."

Renji placed one hand against his cracked chest.

"But it is mine to offer."

He moved beside Ren.

Kushina's chain supported him.

Renji placed his palm over the broken command seal.

White light entered Ren's body.

The vessel core cracked farther.

Renji's face twisted in pain.

"Now."

Kushina formed the Guardian Binding.

Golden formulas surrounded both of them.

Minato added his chakra.

Daichi redirected the seal.

Hana held Ren's hand.

For one long moment—

nothing happened.

Then Ren inhaled.

Sharp.

Painful.

Alive.

His eyes opened.

Clear.

Completely his own.

Hana laughed through tears.

Kushina lowered her head in relief.

Ren looked around weakly.

His gaze stopped on Daichi.

The relief disappeared.

"You."

Daichi did not look away.

"Yes."

Ren tried to sit up.

His body failed.

"You're going to explain everything."

Daichi nodded.

"I know."

The emergency lights returned one by one.

The researcher's voice had disappeared.

The screens remained dark.

But somewhere deeper inside the facility—

an alarm began to sound.

Slow.

Steady.

Approaching footsteps followed.

Many.

Ren closed his eyes for one second.

Then looked toward the corridor ahead.

"He's moving the remaining subjects."

Kushina stood.

"Where?"

"To the lower station."

A pause.

"The same route that leads to the coast."

Renji's core flashed.

A piece of white light broke from the crack and vanished.

Daichi looked at him.

"We have hours now."

Not days.

Hours.

Kushina helped Ren stand.

One chain supported his body.

Another held Renji upright.

Hana remained between them.

Minato moved toward the dark corridor.

Daichi followed—

but Kushina caught his arm.

He looked back.

"This conversation isn't finished."

"I know."

"Akane."

A pause.

"The organization."

Another.

"Everything."

Daichi's face carried no defence.

Only exhaustion.

"When we survive this tunnel."

Kushina released him.

"Then make sure we do."

They moved deeper into the facility.

Toward the lower station.

Toward the prisoners.

Toward the sea.

Behind them—

the broken control network flickered one final time.

A hidden screen awakened.

The researcher watched them through the remaining cameras.

Ren walked beside Kushina.

Free from the command seal.

Renji carried his chosen name.

Hana still held her own.

The man touched the burned spiral on his forehead.

"So."

A faint smile crossed his face.

"The Guardian can sever the Voice."

He turned toward a sealed chamber behind him.

Inside—

dozens of unconscious bodies rested in glass containers.

Each one carried the same hollow circle on its neck.

"Begin synchronization."

The machines awakened.

And every vessel opened its eyes.
