Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Zero-Day Vulnerability

The drive back to the dorms was suffocating. Jaxon's high-end sports car, usually a sanctuary of speed, felt like a pressurized chamber. He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white, his eyes fixed on the road, though his mind was clearly back in that ballroom with the man named Rogue.

Yuna sat in the passenger seat, staring out the window at the passing streetlights. In her pocket, the microchip felt like it was burning a hole through her silk gown.

"I'm not going to ask again," Jaxon said, his voice low and jagged. "But don't think for a second I'm letting this go. That guy... he didn't just know you. He looked at you like he owned a piece of your soul."

Yuna didn't turn. "Some pieces of me don't belong to anyone, Jaxon. Not even myself."

"Is that why you're hiding in Class S?" Jaxon finally looked at her as he pulled into the academy gates. "Are you hiding from him? Or the 'Council' he mentioned?"

"I'm not hiding," Yuna said, finally meeting his gaze with a coldness that made him flinch. "I'm working. And if you're as smart as the Thorne name suggests, you'll stay on your side of the line."

She didn't wait for him to open her door. She disappeared into the shadows of the dormitory before he could even kill the engine.

The Midnight Reveal

Once inside her room, Yuna didn't turn on the lights. She shed the heavy gala dress, slipping back into her oversized hoodie—her true armor. She sat at her desk, where three monitors flickered to life, casting a ghostly blue glow over her sharp features.

She slotted the microchip into a custom, air-gapped terminal.

Lines of code began to scream across the screen. This wasn't a message; it was a Zero-Day exploit—a digital skeleton key that could bypass the world's most secure firewalls. Attached to the code was a single high-resolution image: a blueprint of the Aurelian Academy's Underground Vault.

A text file blinked at the bottom:

"The Heir thinks he's protecting you, but he's sitting on the prize. The 'Crown Jewel' of the Shadow Market is buried right under your feet, ARES. Retrieve it before the Council sends someone less 'friendly' than me. You have 48 hours. — R"

Yuna's breath hitched. The "Crown Jewel" wasn't a diamond. It was a physical server containing the encrypted identities of every deep-cover agent in the world. If it fell into the wrong hands, the global balance of power would collapse.

The Shadow in the Hallway

A faint scuff of a shoe outside her door made her freeze. She didn't reach for a weapon; she reached for her glasses, sliding them on to hide the predatory glint in her eyes.

She opened the door to find Jaxon leaning against the opposite wall. He hadn't changed out of his suit. He looked exhausted, haunted, and dangerously determined.

"I did a background check on 'Leo Sterling' while I was sitting in the car," Jaxon said, holding up his phone. "Non-existent. A ghost. But I did find one thing."

He stepped into her personal space, his shadow towering over her. "I found a signature on a series of bank heists from five years ago. A digital mark that matches the one etched into the cufflinks he was wearing tonight."

Jaxon leaned down, his face inches from hers. "You're not an outcast, Yuna. You're a target. And if you won't tell me what's on that chip, I'll just have to follow you until I find out myself."

Yuna looked up at him, the "nerdy" girl mask slipping for just a fraction of a second to reveal the Queen of Class S.

"Then I hope you've brought more than a fast car, Jaxon. Because where I'm going, money can't buy you a way out."
