Chapter 14 - Family Matters

Under the warm lights of the living room, Peter sat at the dining table, freshly showered and dressed in clean clothes. In front of him was a newly prepared meal—Aunt May had insisted on making more after he mentioned his appetite had grown.

She had already saved him dinner.

Now she had made extra.

"Alright," Uncle Ben said from across the table, his expression serious, "you can start explaining what happened."

"Oh, let him finish eating first," Aunt May interjected gently. "And don't look so stern—you're going to scare him."

One strict.

One gentle.

Looking at them, Peter couldn't help but smile.

A genuine smile.

So many people pitied Spider-Man—the boy who lost his parents young, raised by his uncle and aunt, only to lose Uncle Ben right when his life began to change.

Aunt May, too, had suffered again and again because of his identity.

And yet—

She had never blamed him.

She had always been there.

Warm.

Patient.

Loving him as if he were her own child.

Because, in truth—

They were his parents.

Peter quickly finished the food in front of him, eating everything clean under Aunt May's satisfied gaze. Letting out a small, contented burp, he leaned back slightly.

"Here, drink some water."

Aunt May handed him a glass and gently wiped the corner of his mouth.

Peter nodded, took a sip—

Then began.

There was no point hiding things.

Trying to "protect" them by keeping secrets would only hurt them more.

"I… got bitten by that spider yesterday. After that, I started developing some abilities."

As he spoke, he raised his hand.

The glass floated up into the air.

Aunt May's eyes widened in surprise.

With a thought, Peter used telekinesis to tidy the table, clearing away the dishes as if an invisible hand were at work.

It looked almost like magic—

Like a scene from a harry potter.

"I went to the river after school today to test my abilities," he continued calmly. "But when I was leaving… I noticed something wrong at Liberty Island."

From there, he recounted everything.

The strange disturbance.

The battle.

The Statue of Liberty.

The X-Men.

A story that was mostly true—

With a few key details carefully hidden.

The system, of course, was never mentioned.

And his telekinesis?

Simply explained as part of the mutation caused by the spider bite.

"So let me get this straight…"

Uncle Ben frowned slightly.

"You're saying… you just saved the world?"

Peter nodded seriously.

"That's right. Your kid saved the world."

He leaned forward slightly, grinning.

"So, Uncle Ben… as my guardian, don't you feel a sense of pride? After all, it was your guidance that shaped me into someone brave enough—someone noble enough—to do something like this."

Peter's instincts kicked in instantly.

He could already tell—

Uncle Ben was about to get angry.

And not without reason.

From Ben's perspective, Peter had just run straight into a dangerous battlefield and fought mutants far beyond his level.

That wasn't heroism.

That was recklessness.

But Peter knew him well.

So—

He launched into full praise mode.

And it worked.

Hearing Peter attribute everything to his upbringing, Uncle Ben's expression softened slightly, even if the concern in his eyes remained.

In the end, he sighed.

"Listen carefully."

"If something like this happens again, you leave immediately. I don't care what kind of powers you have—you're still a kid."

"You call the police. You don't play hero."

"What if something had happened to you? Have you thought about your Aunt May? Do you know how worried she was when she couldn't reach you?"

Peter had no choice but to nod obediently.

"Got it. I won't do it again."

Of course—

That was just what he said.

As for whether he'd actually follow that promise…

That was another story.

"Alright, you've eaten. Go upstairs and get some rest."

Uncle Ben stood up, then added one last thing.

"And listen to me—just because you have powers doesn't mean you can use them however you want."

"I will not allow you to use them for crime."

"Or for personal gain."

"Understood?"

Peter nodded again, looking perfectly well-behaved.

"Understood."

But inside—

He couldn't help but smirk.

Who said he needed to use his powers to make money?

Besides—

Uncle Ben had only said illegal gains were forbidden.

That meant—

Legal ones were fair game, right?
