Chapter 27 - 27

My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale

Gu Nanqiu's house was indeed very big.

That was Yue Yiyue's first thought upon seeing the house before her.

But it was also too spacious, lacking any warmth of human presence.

From the moment she stepped inside, Yue Yiyue felt as though she was being watched by some huge creature.

It was like entering the monster's lair.

Damp, cold, and bone-chilling.

She looked around in slight confusion, but there was nothing; only Gu Nanqiu rummaging through the shoe cabinet in front of her.

Perhaps it was a side effect of recently escaping that school.

She refocused her attention on the house, contemplating how to inject some human warmth into it.

Add some green plants?

Or should she buy some small ornaments to fill the space?

"Wear these shoes—" A pair of white slippers was placed at Yue Yiyue's feet. Gu Nanqiu joyfully set the shoes down. "I usually live here alone."

"Mom is busy abroad all the time and doesn't have time to come back."

"Thinking about being there for so many days, yet only an afternoon passed here… They said there was a serial killer, and we are the survivors."

Yue Yiyue lowered her head, placed her shoes in the corner, and checked her socks. Good, no holes. "That seems to be the only explanation."

Recalling the tragic details she overheard the police chatting about, Yue Yiyue sighed. "Zhang Yang killed them all, and then she was left there, too."

"Yes… it was all because of… W"

"Nanqiu, are you hungry? Should I cook for you, or should we order takeout?" Yue Yiyue anxiously interrupted Gu Nanqiu. "There's nothing good to say about right and wrong. They caused this because of their own desires; it's hard to evaluate."

"Nanqiu, there's no need to dwell on that." Yue Yiyue stepped forward, firmly pressed Gu Nanqiu onto the sofa, and covered her with a soft blanket, creating a secure space.

She looked intently at Gu Nanqiu, saying deliberately and clearly, "Did you ever say you liked her?"

"Did you ever signal that you wanted to be with her?"

"They completely disregarded your feelings and tried to destroy your life, trapping you right where you were."

"If it weren't for Ye Qiu helping inside, we might still not be out, and I might have died in the bathroom or some corner of the school, while you were left there."

"I know. I understand everything." Gu Nanqiu's eyes reddened. She sniffled and pounced into Yue Yiyue's arms, rubbing against the soft body, hiding the excitement on her face, greedily absorbing Yue Yiyue's warmth. This assertive Yiyue. So lovely, absolutely lovely.

But on her lips, she regretfully said, "But truly, I wish it were all just a dream."

Yue Yiyue looked at the fragile Gu Nanqiu in her arms. She felt a little melancholy. Sigh, she is only a high school student after all. No matter how composed she normally is, returning to a safe place makes her spill out all the grievances from the journey like beans.

Yue Yiyue held the girl in her embrace, letting her snuggle and shift like a wronged Maine Coon.

She gently stroked Gu Nanqiu's soft hair and slender back from time to time, offering quiet comfort.

Her other hand wasn't idle; she was scrolling through takeout options.

Food is essential. It would be terrible if Nanqiu didn't eat and ended up with a stomach ache.

She also ordered two cups of overly sweet-looking milk tea. She had heard people say that such drinks could make a person happy.

When Gu Nanqiu's emotions calmed down, and she no longer looked as sad as before, Yue Yiyue handed her the phone.

"Nanqiu, take a look. Is there anything here you don't want to eat?"

Gu Nanqiu took the phone. The dishes were all ones she had ordered in the school cafeteria, but this was a more expensive restaurant nearby.

The two cups of milk tea, too. The delivery fee was six yuan…

"Why did you order from this place?" Gu Nanqiu looked at Yue Yiyue with some confusion. "There are other stores that haven't closed yet, right?"

It was only eight o'clock, and Yiyue had previously taught her how to order takeout more efficiently.

It wasn't comfortable to lie down, so Gu Nanqiu shifted slightly, changing her position to lean against Yue Yiyue's embrace. She tapped the screen a few times, then presented the restaurant she had tried and thought would suit Yue Yiyue's taste like a treasure: "This braised chicken and rice is delicious."

Then she tapped into another place.

"This pizza tastes good, too—"

Yue Yiyue looked down at the docile person nestled in her arms.

"These two places are too cheap."

They don't match you.

"But they taste good—" Gu Nanqiu blinked at Yue Yiyue. The most important thing was that Yiyue liked eating them.

Her eyes, having just cried, were still moist.

Her lips looked a bit dry. Yue Yiyue thought for a moment. "How about the braised chicken and rice? Add some extra side dishes? And a pizza."

"Which milk tea place do you want? Peach?"

"Strawberry?"

"Do you want a small cake, too?"

After taking a shower and lying down on Gu Nanqiu's bed, dressed in clothes that fit just right, and using toiletries that Gu Nanqiu had prepared long ago…

…along with skincare products suitable for Yue Yiyue.

Yue Yiyue felt something was off, but she couldn't pinpoint it.

Gu Nanqiu went to the bathroom to wash up. Yue Yiyue didn't dwell on it, sitting obediently in the corner of the bed, holding her phone and staring at the cold transfer figures in the dialogue box.

It was the original host's mother. She had transferred four thousand yuan via WeChat. At the same time, a bank card text message popped up: a balance change notification—an additional ten thousand yuan.

"You handle this yourself, sweetie. I'm busy lately, sweetie. I've sent you the tuition and living expenses. Let me know if it's not enough. Be sure to spend more."

Because Yue Yiyue hadn't replied for too long.

The sender then sent a question mark, followed by, Are you busy, sweetie?

Scrolling through the sparse messages above, Yue Yiyue felt that the person sending the messages seemed somewhat disconnected, but she didn't dare ask too many questions.

She was afraid that the original host's mother would notice her daughter was acting differently.

She briefly summarized the current situation as much as possible, and finally replied with a "Thank you, Mom," as the original host used to, and accepted the money.

Yue Yiyue thought, thankfully, she's busy and hasn't returned.

Otherwise, she wouldn't know how to explain things immediately.

But what about later?

Yue Yiyue tried hard to summon memories, attempting to squeeze out any interactions between the mother and daughter.

In fact, most of the original host's memories were of being by Gu Nanqiu's side.

Everything before that was blank.

Perhaps it was because the protagonist of this novel was Gu Nanqiu.

Yue Yiyue quickly found a logical explanation.

The bathroom door was pushed open, and hot air streamed out.

Gu Nanqiu, wearing a cute pink nightgown, looked at the person huddled in the corner staring blankly at the phone. "What's wrong?"

Yue Yiyue snapped back to reality. She shook her head. "Nothing, I just feel tired."

"Then let's go to sleep. We'll go out to eat tomorrow. Oh right, Yiyue, don't go into the room with the red character pasted on it. Don't be curious."

Yue Yiyue originally thought she would only stay at Gu Nanqiu's house for two days, until Gu Nanqiu recovered from the sorrow of her former friends mutually killing each other, and then she could leave.

Instead, Gu Nanqiu sent her back to get her clothes and some daily necessities.

And just like that, she became a long-term resident.

The two ate breakfast together and went shopping together.

It was just like two ordinary college students enjoying their holidays.

The days passed quickly.

There were only ten-plus days left until school started.

Occasionally, Yue Yiyue would stare at the room with the red '囍' character pasted on it, which felt completely out of place in the house. She was a little curious.

But it was only curiosity; she wasn't overly interested in other people's privacy.

As the start of school approached, Gu Nanqiu pulled Yue Yiyue into looking for a new apartment.

They contemplated from morning till night.

The apartment shouldn't be too big, but it needed good lighting.

The surroundings couldn't be too noisy, but it had to be close to the school.

The price…

Gu Nanqiu didn't need to consider the price.

She lay on Yue Yiyue's lap, and whenever she saw a suitable place, she would lean in for Yue Yiyue to take a look, blinking her bright eyes and looking expectantly at Yue Yiyue, asking, Do you like it?

After getting Yue Yiyue's answer, she would proceed to the next step, scrutinizing the details.

In the end, she would always find some reason to reject it.

Yue Yiyue fed a washed Sun Muscat grape to Gu Nanqiu's mouth. "I think the previous two-bedroom Loft apartment was quite nice. The view was good."

Also, it wasn't in the area where the original novel's crime occurred, which was the best part.

"But the master bedroom is a bit small," Gu Nanqiu mumbled, biting down on the grape. The sweet juice burst in her mouth. Gu Nanqiu narrowed her eyes, looking at her hand with lingering water traces. She chuckled softly, not sure what she was thinking, and then drawled playfully, "Another one~"

Yue Yiyue followed Gu Nanqiu's request and handed her a grape. She casually tapped on another apartment type with a larger-looking bedroom, outside the original crime area. Mhm.

"What about this one? You should like it, right?"

"We should ask if we can install a bathtub later," Gu Nanqiu pointed to the area near the window in the picture. "It should be nice to soak here and enjoy the night view outside."

She then carefully examined the details of this apartment and the surrounding environment.

"Then I'll listen to you! I'll go contact the landlord for this one later."

A few days later, the rental matter was resolved. Gu Nanqiu said one of her cousins had secured the apartment and signed the lease there.

Yue Yiyue lay on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. She really wanted to find a part-time job.

But if she left for just a little while, Gu Nanqiu would sit in some corner, looking melancholy and dejected.

So, Yue Yiyue quietly looked up online courses and studied them whenever she had time.

She sometimes had to mock herself for her destined hard work.

"Yiyue, come and eat—I tried deep-fried prawns today, and they look great!"

Gu Nanqiu served the beautifully presented, appetizing dish onto the dining table.

Yue Yiyue quickly scrambled up. "I'll carry it. Don't burn your hands."

During their time together, Yue Yiyue discovered another of Gu Nanqiu's small hobbies: she liked to cook in the kitchen.

And she disliked Yue Yiyue entering the kitchen to help while she was busy.

The two had even had a small argument about it.

But it was harmless. After they talked it out, their relationship deepened, and their affection for each other grew stronger.

Sniffing the unusually fragrant prawns, Yue Yiyue looked curiously at Gu Nanqiu. "What seasoning did you use? There's no fishy smell at all."

In the corner, a severed small tentacle shook with excitement, only to be dragged back by another one.

Hearing Yue Yiyue's affirmation, she happily placed the food on the table, pressing her hand down to cover the sleeve that still had traces of blood. "Just ordinary seasoning. Maybe it's because I made it. It's very nutritious, Yiyue, you should eat more."

The meat, mixed with her own blood and body, was an excellent tonic. This way, she can become healthy. Yiyue was too thin. Holding her while she slept, feeling those individual bones beneath the thin skin and flesh, made Gu Nanqiu feel intensely heartbroken.

Yiyue didn't live well when she was away from her.

Fortunately, she beat Gluttony up… although she received a small, negligible punishment.
