Chapter 10 - The Fear

There are many types of creators.

Everyone can become a listener if they clear the Trial of Body. A listener is one who can hear different sounds meant to attack, defend, and perform various tasks. However, they cannot decipher complicated and powerful sounds. Through hard work and insight, they can become a reader. When you are a reader, you can recite the sounds you deciphered as a listener. This brings more intensity to your attacks and actions.

This stage is what people call a stagnant stage. If you cannot overcome yourself, this becomes the dead end of your warrior life. But if you overcome yourself and complete the next trial, you can become a writer. A writer is an upgraded version of a reader. One can make a greater impact by reciting with innate prowess. This is where people try to become a creator.

Creators are beings who shape reality according to their will by creating new resonating sounds with the sound created by nature, the will of the sea. Once the resonance takes place, the power of a creator is unleashed. According to the power of the creator, the world can be overturned. Only a handful of people attain creator status.

Levize chose Kavin because his creator power resonates with predictions. He can create a path with a destination and goal in mind, and create sounds where he can see a path that leads to victory. Now that he has become quite a master, he can even share his powers with his teammates. It is quite a ridiculous power, but there are some drawbacks. Just because we know the path does not mean we can actually reach the destination. Sometimes the path is very long, and sometimes it disappears halfway. It is complicated in every way. But Kavin honed his skill all these years alongside Levize, so he is quite a master at his work and can actually finish it. Still, this target is no easy feat and cannot be considered an easy win.

As Kavin recited more and more sounds, his white eyes glistened and seemed to shine brighter. His short hair stood upward like it was electrified. Then he crossed his hands in front of him. As he did, Leo took a stance with his left leg forward and his right leg back, lowering his posture slightly. He charged his spear from behind his body and recited a sound.

His voice carried through the air, not too rough, but not childish either. It was pleasant to hear. As he finished, a pulse of force was transmitted toward the spear, and it began to disperse in green sparks. Then Leo, with a grunted expression, sent his empty hand forward. As he did, an enormous force, as large as the cleaver itself, suddenly struck old Tom. Its brain seemed to shake, and old Tom stumbled.

A thin line appeared on the water, and as the line closed in on old Tom, it suddenly gained control of its body and moved forward very fast. It seemed Ravi unleashed his attack while Leo was attacking it, but the great whale noticed his slash and moved. It could not dodge it completely, so the attack struck its tail. Even though it missed the vital parts, the tail of old Tom was cut deeply. It was so deep that it was barely clinging to its body.

Then, suddenly, old Tom rose slightly to the surface. As it did, a short blade, at the speed of light, suddenly struck one of its eyes and returned to Robin's hand. But he did not catch it in his hand. Instead, it was as if an invisible string connected them both, and he controlled the path of the blade through it.

Seeing them from the surface, old Tom let out a roar. Then suddenly, it felt something. It was not something it would feel very often, but it was definitely familiar. It felt gutted, cut into pieces, chopped like wood, and its life was being sucked into the eternal void of the world. It felt the fear of death.

As old Tom looked into the distance, there seemed to be a ripple floating over the surface and two people above it. Levize sat beside Ares and cast a look at old Tom when it roared, as if saying, Do not disturb my conversation.

With the sensation of fleeing coming into its mind, a powerful gust of wind hit harder than before. While the blow landed, old Tom could not move because the short sword had landed in the other eye, leaving only two eyes left. As it began to struggle, Ravi lifted his saber above his head and whispered a sound. It was so melodious that it felt like it came from an instrument.

After finishing, the saber descended as it created a line in space itself, aiming at old Tom's head. Old Tom felt the sensation of death from that stare alone. But, the death that now coming for its head, it came from something other than that menacing source. Thinking of such death was shameful, as it created some sound and it tried to do something.

A sound resonated in its head, and suddenly everyone slowed. Then a shockwave came after that. Robin's invisible wire fell off, Ravi's line that cleaves disappeared, and Leo's head grew dizzy. Then the great whale dove back into the sea and disappeared into the abyss. The four of them followed it.

Ares looked at Levize and asked, "Sir, you just looked at it, but for a moment it decided to give up! You're truly terrifying. It's just us who can never catch up to you. For us, it's really an irritating feeling, sir, to have more power than most people but still feel powerless before even greater power."

Levize looked at him and said in a calm tone, "Don't ask for more when what you have is plenty. It is not that being powerful is a very good thing. You have to sacrifice greatly to attain great power, and it is not easy to control. It is simple: being rich does not mean being happy. Every great thing comes with a greater price, and once you cannot pay for it, then your life becomes prey to it. So be careful what you ask for. You do not need great power to kill it. You know what it can be killed easily. Old Tom is really a whale from the times of the Great War, but it is not as deadly compared to the ones that truly fought. Its incompetence in fighting other whales is what made it a cannibalizer, so it is like a foot soldier in those wars."

Hearing him, Ares was shocked and did not say anything. Then he asked with determination, "Sir, then how can I kill it when four powerful members of our tribe are struggling to fight it?"

"As I said before, it is not about how much we have. It is about how we use and control it. You have a beautiful sound, Ares. It is not because of your world that I selected you. It is because the one I selected is beyond what he thinks he is. You just lack courage and motivation because of your world and eagerness to take revenge, so just calm down and close your eyes for a minute."

Ares closed his eyes. Levize stood behind him and kept his hand on his back, whispering some sound. There seemed to be some smoke coming out of Ares. He did not notice it and had a dumbfounded reaction on his face as Levize sat beside him.

He asked, "Sir, what did you do? I didn't feel anything."

Levize said, "Just go. You'll see."

Ares stood with a determined expression and became ready to jump. Just before jumping, there seemed to be something different about his body. He felt that something had changed, and it made his mind and body clear. But before jumping, he turned back to see Levize and thank him. Yet Ares stood there with a confused expression on his face, as Commander Levize was not there.

"What? He was here a second ago! Where did he go?"

With this question in his mind, Ares recited a sound. As he did, a radiant red sword weaved itself from nothing in his hand, and he jumped into the sea. Levize's ripple was confused, as its master was nowhere to be found.
