Rin couldn't sleep.
The fortress had become quiet hours ago, but his mind refused to follow. He sat beside the window, looking at the moon.
The conversation with the God kept returning to him.
The betrayal. The curse. The person Rin had chosen before becoming Aelion.
The God had confirmed that it happened but he hadn't known who that person was and he hadn't known what happened before Rin became a god.
That meant there was still a part of Rin's past that even the God couldn't explain.
Rin looked down at his hands.
"Aelion..."
The name still felt strange. He knew it belonged to him but it wasn't the whole story.
There had been something before Aelion. Something he had almost remembered.
A child. A woman. A voice. And someone whose face remained hidden.
Rin sighed.
"Why does every answer give me three more questions?"
A knock came from the door. Rin turned.
"Who?"
"It's me."
Kaelith.
Rin opened the door. Kaelith stood outside.
"You weren't sleeping."
