Chapter 62 - Ch58- A City That Didn’t Know Her Yet...

Chapter 58– A City That Didn't Know Her Yet

Ahmedabad greeted JJ with noise.

Too much noise.

Bright airport lights.

Rolling suitcases.

Voices overlapping in languages she barely understood.

The smell of coffee.

Perfume.

Rain outside somewhere faintly hitting the glass walls.

Everything felt too loud against her aching head.

---

JJ stepped out slowly from the arrival gate, one hand gripping her suitcase while the other held Snorlax weakly against her chest.

Her breathing was uneven.

Her vision blurred every few seconds now.

And the pain—

God—

the pain in her head felt unbearable tonight.

Like something inside her skull was splitting slowly apart.

Still—

she kept walking.

One step.

Then another.

Then another.

Because she had already left everything behind.

She couldn't collapse now.

---

But fate clearly had different plans.

---

Near the airport exit—

JJ suddenly stopped moving.

The world tilted violently.

The lights above her blurred completely.

Her hearing faded strangely.

Then—

warmth.

Something wet sliding down her lips.

Her nose.

Blood.

---

JJ blinked weakly.

Her hand touched her face.

Red.

"…shit…"

The word barely came out.

Then her knees gave out completely.

---

Rhys

"WOAH—"

A hand caught her before she hit the floor fully.

Strong.

Fast.

JJ barely registered the voice through the ringing in her ears.

"Hey—hey, look at me."

The voice sounded panicked now.

"Can you hear me?"

JJ tried.

Failed.

Everything was spinning too hard.

The stranger looked around quickly before swearing under his breath.

"Damn it—someone call emergency—"

But then he froze slightly seeing the blood.

The way she was shaking.

The way her body suddenly looked too weak for someone her age.

"No. Forget it."

Decision made instantly.

He adjusted his grip on her carefully.

"I'm taking her myself."

---

The boy looked around nineteen or twenty.

Tall.

Dark hair slightly messy from rushing.

Sharp eyes carrying the exact kind of recklessness only genuinely good people have.

His name was Rhys.

And unfortunately for him—

fate had just thrown JJ Mariano directly into his life.

---

The Ride

JJ drifted in and out during the drive.

Could barely understand anything.

Only fragments.

"You're gonna be okay."

"Stay awake."

"Hospital's close."

"Please don't pass out completely."

Rhys kept talking the entire drive.

Maybe for her.

Maybe for himself.

Because the amount of blood terrified him slightly.

---

JJ tried opening her eyes properly once.

The city lights outside blurred together.

Different country.

Different world.

Different life.

And for one horrifying second—

she wondered if she made a mistake leaving Manila.

Then darkness swallowed her again.

---

Hospital

The hospital corridors smelled sharply clean.

White lights.

Footsteps.

Doctors moving quickly.

Rhys carried her inside while yelling:

"I NEED HELP HERE—"

Several interns turned instantly.

And fate—

being cruelly small sometimes—

decided this exact hospital contained two people JJ crossed an entire world trying to reach.

---

Care looked up first.

Then froze.

"…Rhys?"

Lyra beside her blinked.

"What did you break now—"

Then both saw the unconscious girl in his arms.

And the blood.

Immediately serious.

---

"Move," Care ordered instantly.

Rhys laid JJ carefully on the emergency bed.

"She collapsed at the airport. Nosebleed. Severe dizziness. Maybe neurological—I don't know."

Lyra was already checking vitals.

"Pulse unstable."

Care frowned slightly seeing JJ's pale face.

Something about her felt…

familiar.

Not visually.

Emotionally.

But her brain couldn't place it.

---

Rhys ran a hand through his hair frantically.

"She was alone."

That sentence landed strangely in the room.

Because even unconscious—

JJ somehow looked heartbreakingly alone.

---

Fate Plays Another Joke

Lyra adjusted the IV carefully before muttering:

"She's pretty."

Rhys stared at her incredulously.

"THAT is your observation right now?"

"I'm stressed. Let me cope."

Care ignored both.

Still studying JJ carefully.

Her brows furrowed slowly.

"…wait."

Lyra looked up.

"What?"

Care hesitated.

Then shook her head slightly.

"No. Nothing."

Because it couldn't be.

Right?

The JJ they knew existed through letters.

Through messy handwriting.

Through stories.

Through emotions on paper.

Not here.

Not unconscious in front of them.

Not real.

---

And JJ—

drifting somewhere between pain and sleep—

didn't recognize them either.

Not Care.

Not Lyra.

Not even Rhys.

Because she had never seen their faces before.

Only words.

Only letters.

Only friendship built through paper and distance.

---

Rhys and Lyra Chaos

"You idiot," Lyra suddenly snapped at Rhys while adjusting equipment. "How do you randomly find dying girls at airports?"

Rhys looked offended immediately.

"I DIDN'T FIND HER ON PURPOSE."

"You literally attract problems."

"You're one to talk."

"Shut up."

Care pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Can both of you stop fighting aggressively and focus?"

"WE ARE NOT FIGHTING," both shouted instantly.

Silence.

Then one nurse nearby coughed awkwardly.

Care looked tired already.

---

The Most Dangerous Discovery

Care reached toward JJ carefully to adjust her sleeve slightly.

Then paused.

Her eyes narrowed.

There—

barely visible—

was a bracelet.

Old.

Threaded.

Handmade.

A tiny moon charm hanging from it.

Care froze completely.

Because once—

months ago—

someone had described this exact bracelet in a letter.

---

Her heartbeat slowed.

"…no way."

Lyra frowned. "What?"

Care looked at JJ again.

Really looked.

The tired face.

The stubborn expression even unconscious.

The hoodie too big for her.

The Snorlax plush still held weakly in her hand even now.

And suddenly—

something terrifying clicked into place.

---

But before either of them could say anything—

JJ stirred weakly.

Her breathing uneven again.

Eyes barely opening.

Confused.

Lost.

And the first thing she whispered softly was—

"…Keifer…"

The room went completely silent.

---

The room stayed silent after JJ whispered his name.

"…Keifer…"

Weak.

Broken.

Barely audible.

But enough.

Enough to make Care and Lyra freeze completely.

---

Rhys looked between them immediately.

"…what?"

Neither answered.

Because both girls were staring at JJ now like reality had suddenly shifted under their feet.

Lyra slowly looked down toward the Snorlax plush still trapped weakly in JJ's arms.

Then toward the oversized hoodie she wore.

Then toward the moon bracelet.

And finally—

toward Care.

"No way," Lyra whispered.

Care's face had gone pale.

---

Because suddenly—

everything made sense.

The letters.

The jokes.

The stories.

The girl who wrote like she was chaos wrapped in sunlight.

Their JJ.

Their impossible JJ.

The one who sounded too alive on paper to ever look this fragile.

Was lying unconscious in front of them.

Dying.

---

Rhys frowned harder.

"Can someone explain why both of you look like you've seen a ghost?"

Lyra looked at him slowly.

"That's JJ."

"…JJ who?"

Neither girl answered immediately.

Because saying it out loud somehow made it real.

---

Care finally whispered:

"Our JJ."

Silence.

Rhys blinked.

Confused.

Then realization slowly hit.

"The letter girl?"

Lyra nodded once.

And for the first time since bringing JJ here—

Rhys looked genuinely shaken.

Because he knew about her too.

Not deeply.

But enough.

Enough to hear Lyra and Care talk about this chaotic girl from Manila who somehow became family through paper and ink.

Enough to hear them laugh while reading her letters.

Enough to know this girl mattered.

A lot.

---

And now—

she looked like she was slipping away right in front of them.

---

The Bag

A nurse approached quietly.

"Sir, her belongings?"

Rhys took the bag automatically.

Then hesitated.

Care stared at it silently.

"We need identification," she said softly.

Her own voice sounded strange to her.

Because part of her still hoped they were wrong.

Still hoped this wasn't actually JJ.

---

Lyra slowly unzipped the bag.

Inside—

clothes.

Medicine.

Cash.

Keifer's hoodie.

And beneath it—

letters.

A lot of letters.

Folded carefully.

Protected carefully.

---

Care's breathing stopped for a second seeing the familiar handwriting on the envelopes.

Her own name.

Lyra's name.

Wrinkled from being held too much.

Carried too much.

Loved too much.

---

Lyra picked one up slowly.

Hands trembling now.

And underneath the letters—

a passport.

She opened it.

Read the name.

Then closed her eyes instantly.

"...Jasper Jean Mariano."

Silence.

Complete silence.

Because now there was no doubt left.

---

The Truth Hits Properly

Rhys sat down slowly.

"…holy shit."

That was all he could say.

Because how was this real?

How does someone exist so loudly in stories—

and then arrive half-dead in front of you?

---

Care carefully touched one of the letters.

And suddenly remembered every line JJ ever wrote.

Every joke.

Every chaotic sentence.

Every hidden sadness between the words.

All the moments where JJ avoided talking about herself too deeply.

All the times she changed the topic.

All the moments they missed.

---

Lyra looked at unconscious JJ again.

And her eyes suddenly filled.

"She came alone."

That sentence broke something.

Because they all understood what that meant.

JJ crossed countries alone while dying.

Terrified.

In pain.

And still somehow managed to reach them.

---

Rhys Understands Too

Rhys ran a hand through his hair slowly.

"She collapsed holding that stupid plushie."

Lyra immediately glared through tears.

"Don't insult Snorlax."

"I'm literally traumatized right now."

Care ignored both again.

Still staring at JJ.

Because this girl—

this impossible girl—

had written like she was fearless.

Strong.

Unbreakable.

Like nothing in the world could truly crush her spirit.

And now—

seeing her unconscious—

seeing blood dried near her nose—

seeing how tiny and exhausted she looked—

felt devastating.

---

The Messages

Care moved suddenly.

Grabbed her phone.

Typing quickly.

Lyra looked over immediately.

"To who?"

"Cole."

Lyra nodded instantly.

Then grabbed her own phone too.

"I'm calling Alex."

Rhys frowned.

"At like… 2AM?"

Lyra looked at him blankly.

"Our best friend is literally dying."

"…fair point."

---

Alex

Alex answered on the third ring.

Half asleep.

"…Lyra if this is about your cat again—"

"It's JJ."

Silence.

Instant.

Then his voice sharpened immediately.

"What happened?"

Lyra looked at JJ again.

And her throat tightened.

"She's here."

"…what?"

"In India."

Another silence.

Dangerous this time.

Then:

"I'm coming."

The line disconnected instantly.

---

Cole

Care's hands were shaking slightly while typing to Cole.

Which almost never happened.

The reply came less than thirty seconds later.

Cole:

Hospital name. Now.

That was it.

No extra words.

No questions.

Because some people understand panic immediately.

---

The Girl They Finally Met

JJ stirred weakly again on the hospital bed.

Still unconscious.

Still trapped somewhere between pain and exhaustion.

And quietly—

almost like instinct—

her fingers tightened around Keifer's hoodie.

Like even unconscious—

she was still holding onto him.

---

Lyra saw it.

And suddenly tears rolled down her face completely.

Because this wasn't just a sick girl anymore.

This was their JJ.

The loud chaotic idiot who wrote emotional nonsense at 3AM.

Who paired people together like some love-manipulating gremlin.

Who made everyone feel less alone through letters.

Who carried everyone's pain while quietly dying herself.

---

Care sat beside the bed slowly.

Then finally whispered the thing both of them were thinking.

"…she was really trying to disappear alone."
