Chapter 33 – Flatline
Morning arrived too quietly.
Like the world itself knew something terrible was about to happen.
The hospital corridors were pale and cold under the early sunlight.
Nobody had slept.
Not really.
Section E looked destroyed.
Cin was lying across three chairs dramatically.
Felix sat beside Keigan who had finally fallen asleep against his shoulder again.
Rory stared blankly at a vending machine like it personally betrayed him.
Denzel stood near the windows silently.
Even Percy wasn't making noise anymore.
And that alone felt wrong.
Very wrong.
---
JJ Leaves The Room
JJ slowly stepped out of her hospital room holding onto the wall slightly.
Weak.
Still pale.
But awake.
Percy immediately stood.
"Baby sistah, why are you walking around like an old grandma after yoga?"
JJ ignored him completely.
"Where's Keifer?"
Nobody answered immediately.
That silence alone made her chest tighten.
Aries finally spoke quietly.
"Outside ICU."
JJ walked there before anyone could stop her.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Her body still shaky from the trauma response.
But she kept walking.
Because right now—
Keifer mattered more.
---
Outside ICU
The sight hurt immediately.
Keifer sat outside the ICU doors still wearing bloodstained clothes from last night.
Like he never moved.
Keiren slept curled beside him.
Keigan sat silently staring at the floor.
And Keifer—
he looked empty.
JJ had never seen someone look that tired before.
Not physically.
Emotionally.
Like exhaustion reached his soul itself.
She walked toward him quietly.
Keifer looked up slowly.
The second he saw her—
something in his expression softened slightly.
Just slightly.
"You should be resting," he said quietly.
JJ sat beside him anyway.
"You should too."
Silence.
Then Keifer suddenly laughed softly.
Broken.
"I can't."
JJ looked at his hands.
Still stained faintly red despite washing.
Like the blood refused to leave him completely.
Carefully—
she reached out and held one.
Keifer froze slightly at the touch.
Then gripped her hand tighter.
Too tight.
Like he needed something real to stay grounded.
JJ let him.
No teasing.
No arguments.
Just silence together.
And honestly—
that hurt more.
---
The Doctor Returns
An hour later—
the ICU doors opened again.
Everyone stood immediately.
Doctor Ria stepped out slowly.
And JJ knew instantly.
Before she even spoke.
Because doctors don't look at families like that unless something is broken beyond repair.
Keifer stood first.
"How is she?"
Silence.
Doctor Ria removed her glasses slowly.
"We tried stabilizing the internal bleeding again…"
Nobody breathed.
"But her body went into cardiac arrest."
Keigan immediately grabbed Keifer's sleeve tightly.
Keiren looked terrified.
Keifer stared at the doctor silently.
Like his brain stopped understanding words.
Then finally—
"She's okay now?"
The doctor's eyes softened painfully.
And that alone destroyed everything.
"I'm sorry."
Silence.
Complete silence.
Then—
Keiren started crying first.
A horrible broken sound from a child too young to understand death properly.
Keigan covered his face immediately.
Felix looked away sharply.
Cin cursed under his breath.
Percy shut his eyes tightly.
Aries lowered his head silently.
And Keifer—
Keifer didn't react.
At all.
He just stood there unmoving.
Blank.
Like someone erased every emotion from his face.
JJ slowly stood beside him.
"Keifer…"
Nothing.
No response.
Doctor Ria continued softly:
"She passed away at 8:17 AM."
Passed away.
Such small words for something this devastating.
---
The Breakdown
Keiren suddenly ran toward the ICU doors crying hysterically.
"I WANNA SEE MOM—"
Denzel caught him carefully before he could fall.
Keigan finally broke too.
Actually broke.
Crying silently into Felix's shoulder while trying to act older than he was.
JJ's chest hurt violently watching it.
But Keifer?
Still nothing.
Still silent.
Too silent.
JJ stepped in front of him slowly.
"Keifer."
His eyes finally moved toward her.
Empty.
Completely empty.
And suddenly—
that scared her more than screaming would've.
"She can't be dead," he whispered.
Quiet.
Confused.
Like he genuinely couldn't process it.
"She promised me she'd stay."
JJ felt tears sting her own eyes immediately.
Because that sentence—
that sounded like a child.
Not the confident president of Section E.
Not the arrogant flirt.
Just a son losing his mother.
And suddenly—
Keifer laughed.
Once.
Small.
Broken.
"She hates hospitals," he whispered. "She wouldn't…"
Then his voice cracked violently.
And finally—
finally—
he broke.
Keifer doubled over suddenly like the grief physically hit him.
JJ caught him immediately before he collapsed fully.
He buried his face against her shoulder breathing unevenly.
And JJ realized then—
he was crying silently.
No dramatic breakdown.
No screaming.
Just silent tears that somehow hurt worse to watch.
"I couldn't save her," he whispered shakily.
JJ held him tighter instantly.
"You tried."
"I should've protected her."
"You did."
"She died anyway."
Those words shattered her completely.
Because there was no comfort good enough for that kind of pain.
None.
---
The Younger Brothers
Keiren eventually ran toward Keifer sobbing uncontrollably.
Keigan too.
And suddenly the three brothers were holding onto each other desperately in the middle of the hospital hallway.
Broken together.
Section E quietly looked away.
Because witnessing grief this raw felt too personal.
Too painful.
Percy wiped his face aggressively pretending dust entered his eyes.
Cin hugged Rory suddenly.
Rory immediately looked horrified.
"Why are you touching me emotionally."
Cin whispered back shakily:
"Shut up."
Even Aries looked affected deeply now.
Because Serina Watson—
despite everything—
had always been kind to them.
Warm.
Protective.
Like a real mother.
And now she was gone.
---
JJ Notices Something
Hours later—
after paperwork.
After silence.
After too many tears.
The hallway finally became quieter.
Keifer sat again near the windows with Keigan and Keiren asleep beside him.
JJ watched him carefully.
Then noticed something strange.
His hands.
Shaking.
Not from crying anymore.
From rage.
Pure rage buried under grief.
And suddenly—
JJ understood something terrifying.
Kaizer Watson didn't just destroy a family last night.
He created a monster too.
And somewhere far away—
the masked stranger who changed everything was still out there.
Watching.
Waiting.
And nobody yet realized—
Serina Watson's death was only the beginning.
