Chapter 4 - Physical Pain, Last Phase

I always wondered what it feels like to be inside the flames of fire. How could people choose to die by burning themselves. How dreadful it is to be burn by the naked flame. I witnessed the high temperature on my skin a while ago but naked flame is much scary.

I think I am going to find out. For a mere millisecond a spark penetrated the darkness. In the light I saw that thing holding a flamethrower and walking towards me. The bindings on my hand gets harder.

Finally, he ignites the flamethrower. In the light I can see he aimed the flame at my left hand. My body can feel the radiated heat but more than that my hand is in direct contact.

"Aaahhhhh! It burns." I cried.

My instant reaction was to move my hand but I was already in a bad shape. Below my wrist the temperature increased and increased and all I could do is scream.

"I can't feel my left hand."

Those black things protected my upper body and kept the flame to a limited region. The exposed region below the wrist is no more. No bleeding, no cuts, just evaporated in thin air with a burning smell of roasted meat.

Apart from the burn, pain and exhaustion, I kept thinking about Kiri-Shama. What happened between us and why would I agree to this.

I am losing any hope of my survival and maybe it is a good thing. I don't have to suffer anymore. But the fire is extinguished and if he leaves me like this, I might gain the energy to live again.

"Hey, don't leave me like this. Finish me off or get on with your next session already. I want to die now."

It seems they heard me. I can feel the growing heat once again. And once again I was blessed to see what the next torture will be.

The floor creates a depression. The size of which is similar to a swimming pool. Some liquid is filling the depression and the bubble formation gives the idea of it being boiled. The vapor arising is proof of that.

I was being forced to lean down and in just a few second my body was hovering above the boiling liquid.

"That's it, now loose the bindings and let me die."

As I finished my sentence, I started falling down.

The heat energy stored in the vapor clashed with my body. My skin felt like its melting away. My endurance is at it's limit. I left myself completely at the mercy of fate.

With a splashing sound, my body strikes the water surface.

All the pain is gone now. My body is numb. I can't even see the light.

I am drowning and drowning and drowning.

Am I dying, is this how dying feels like, feeling nothing?

I let my face wear a smile for how my questions changed from why am I here to am I dying. I closed my eyes for the peace that awaits me in the afterlife.

But what awaits me is the surprise that I am still alive. The boiling liquid might have melted my body but my heart feels a sting burning like frostbite.

All of a sudden, my energy is restored and before I could hit the bottom surface of the generated depression I bounced out of the liquid. As expected, the lights are gone.

"What was that? Did that frost thing restore my existence? What is happening around here?"

My instincts took over once more and I ran.

I ran until I bumped into someone.

"Who are you?" My tongue slipped.

Because I already knew the answer and I don't want to wait and find out exactly. There are only two possibilities and it won't be a pleasure to meet anyone of them.

So, I changed my direction and ran even faster, faster than I ever before and I can feel my speed against the resisting air. Then I heard him, Kiri-Shama:

"WELL, THIS IS A PLEASANT SURPRISE BUT LET ME ASSURE YOU RUNNING AWAY IS FUTILE."
