Chapter 49 - Muzan: Why Does This Person Resemble the Sun? What Does It Mean That He Wants to Kill Me?

[Strictest Father of the Demon King: Mr. Jonathan... are you going to fight Muzan?]

In the transparent stillness of the world around him, Yoriichi Tsugikuni sat with the question for a moment.

[Strictest Father of the Demon King: It does seem rather fitting. Though there is one thing to be mindful of — this creature is extraordinarily skilled at cutting off his own tail to survive. Does Mr. Jonathan have the pursuit ability to keep up with him?]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: That... may be a slight weak point of mine.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: Don't worry about it. Jonathan can focus on pinning him down first. Once Yoriichi is resurrected, the two of them can snipe him together — doesn't that make the whole thing simple?]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: When you put it that way, that does make sense.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: There is one thing I'd like to ask of you all, though.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: If at all possible — I'd prefer Muzan taken alive.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: When the time comes, I'll find a way to provide support on my end as well.]

[AAA City Female Ghost: I know Muzan's no good guy, but watching you all just... casually arrange his fate like this... I can't help feeling a little something about it.]

[Let Night City Burn: I just find it reassuring, honestly. Maybe someday we can arrange things the same way for Arasaka Tower.]

[Sinseoki Era Warrior of Frieren: No worries. I'm firmly on our side.]

[Strictest Father of the Demon King: Keeping him alive? What does Mr. Anthony intend to do with him?]

Yoriichi Tsugikuni asked with a faint note of confusion — and Anthony wasted no time providing his answer:

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: Simple. I want to run an experiment, and I need Muzan as the test subject.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: Don't worry — there's a very good chance it won't be any more comfortable for him than being dead.]

[Strictest Father of the Demon King: I see. Then I have no further questions.]

[Strictest Father of the Demon King: So long as he receives the punishment he deserves — that is enough.]

Anthony closed the chat group, and something unmistakably wistful flickered through his eyes.

If he was being honest, he was genuinely curious what would happen the moment Jonathan laid eyes on Muzan...

He had no choice but to be curious. Jonathan's base stats were simply obscene.

And now he had the bonus of a Stand-world powerset stacked on top.

And on top of that — Sunlight Yellow Overdrive, a technique that flat-out killed Muzan by design.

Even by the standards of the most unhinged versus-battle debates Anthony had witnessed in his past life, this lineup qualified as a full-scale MuzanTV execution. The kind of matchup that had no business existing.

Just imagining the scene, Anthony felt tears of mourning for Muzan's sake rolling down from the corners of his mouth — ahem, right. Okay. Anthony could admit it. He was, in fact, a little hungry for Muzan's productivity.

That's money walking around on two legs, right there.

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: Well then — no time to waste. Shall I depart now?]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: Come to think of it — I've never actually used World Traversal before. Is there anything special about it?]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: Let me take a look for you. I've never dug into it carefully myself.]

Anthony muttered it offhandedly and pulled up World Traversal. It was true — he'd been too lazy to study the thing in detail. After all, he'd only ever used it as a vehicle for his own crossings, and for navigation he'd always just relied on[The Angler]to lock onto a group member's position and launch himself straight there.

But thinking about it now — if the ability could teleport him to a specified location, it logically had to include some kind of designated-coordinate function...

Jonathan couldn't do a direct point-to-point coordinate jump the way Anthony could, which meant the finer details of that function were suddenly worth examining.

With that thought turning in his mind, Anthony opened the detailed description page for World Traversal.

And promptly discovered something very interesting.

"Wait — this teleportation has that option?"

Anthony stared at what he was reading, took a screenshot without a second's hesitation, and forwarded it straight to the group.

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: [Screenshot]]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: @Founder of the Golden Spirit — just had a look. World Traversal has a mode where you can spend a small number of Points and manually select your landing point.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: You can lock onto a specific individual, or choose a particular location, and drop in directly from above.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: So... I just had a very bold idea.]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: As did I. How many Points does it cost?]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: Just checked — traversing to land near a designated person only costs 1,000 Points.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: That's pocket change. Compared to the long-term cost of recalling Yoriichi's soul, 1,000 Points is nothing — and it won't eat into the resurrection timeline at all.]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: Perfect. Let's do it.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne has transferred 1,000 Points to Founder of the Golden Spirit.]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit has initiated World Traversal.]

[Let Night City Burn: Hold on — is this actually happening? Are we sending Mr. Jonathan directly to Muzan's side?]

[AAA City Female Ghost: Seems like it... I think we can go ahead and offer Muzan our condolences in advance.]

[Lord of the White Holy Throne: @Founder of the Golden Spirit — Jonathan, don't forget to start a livestream when you get there. I genuinely want to see this!]

[Founder of the Golden Spirit: Understood.]

With that single word of acknowledgment, Jonathan — still in Morioh — drew a long, slow breath, eyes fixed on the chat group interface. Calmly, deliberately, he pressed the confirm button.

[World Traversal initiated.]

[Landing target specified: Individual.]

[Landing target: Kibutsuji Muzan.]

[World Traversal in progress. Please brace yourself...]

The instant it activated, Jonathan felt it — as if a roaring freight train had slammed directly into the back of his skull. The world before his eyes dissolved into white noise. His very soul shuddered, just for a heartbeat.

Incredibly disorienting.

On pure reflex, he channeled the Ripple, forcing his breathing back to an even rhythm.

The golden glow of the Ripple moved across his skin in slow, steady waves. Only after roughly half a minute did the violent wrenching sensation of crossing worlds begin to subside — replaced by a lingering dizziness that hadn't quite finished spinning out.

Jonathan held the Sunlight Yellow Ripple steady and cast his gaze around his new surroundings.

Then, from somewhere beside him, a voice rang out — edged with unmistakable alarm.

"Who's there?!"

The shout snapped Jonathan back to full awareness. He didn't even turn around. He simply opened his mouth and asked:

"Kibutsuji Muzan?"

"?!"

In that instant, Kibutsuji Muzan's mind went completely blank.

What the hell?

He'd been standing right there — and then, without warning, this figure had materialized out of thin air directly in front of him. But what was worse, what truly stopped him cold, was...

The man's body was wreathed in a blazing, brilliant radiance. Even looking at it made Muzan's eyes ache.

This power — like sunlight itself. No, not quite. Similar, but not the Breathing techniques. So what was it?

Waves of vertigo crashed through him. And then he registered something else — something that plunged him into ice-cold dread.

Wait.

Why does this man... why does he suddenly seem to be radiating killing intent?
