Chapter 28 - A Gift From the Enemy

"Enter," Jeric called.

The door opened, bringing in the smell of fresh bread and hot tea. Cassia peeked out from beneath the blanket as Jess stepped inside with a silver tray balanced in both hands and a folded blue dress over one arm. She stopped near the fire, looked at Jeric fastening his shirt, then looked at the very obvious lump hiding in the Duke's bed.

"Good morning, Your Grace," Jess said, trying so hard to sound proper that Cassia hated her immediately.

"Don't say a word," Cassia warned from under the blanket.

"I didn't." Jess set the tray down and straightened the dress over the chair, though the smile tugging at her mouth ruined the act. "You just look very married. Mostly the hair."

Cassia threw a pillow at her. Jess dodged, laughing under her breath, then began setting out breakfast. "Madam Flurret sent the dress," Jess said. "She also said the Duchess of Draevenhall cannot spend her first morning hiding under the Duke's blankets."
