Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Drunk

It's been six years since that day.

I got adopted not too long after, which for a kid of that age was a bit rare.

The Bonaparte family adopted me, which consists of Jehan and Ermine Bonaparte, that's it.

My adoptive father is well known in the higher class of the Cusite Kingdom which is where we live now.

Apart from royal work, he is well known in the criminal world. He often plans and sometimes executes those plans, which consists of robbing from the kingdom or the empire.

I know I said I wanted to end corruption, so you would think I would be against it but he follows some good morals.

He doesn't kill people, unless they deserve it he solely only causes damage to the kingdom.

My adoptive mother is a good woman, she often reads to the young children and cares deeply (her special item is books after all) for the community and its people.

I've read countless books on politics, strategy, psychology, and philosophy.

I've also learned Dark magic which is difficult to learn without a good teacher, luckily I had Jehan, he mastered it and is still teaching me.

There doesn't go a day where I don't think about ending corruption, and I plan to but there are steps I must take.

First I must complete my training, I leave for training today at noon.

Supposedly I'm going to train near the Luivia kingdom with one of Jehan's old friends. Apparently he's a skilled swordsman. I've gotten training with the sword but nothing more than intermediate level. I've also gained some experience from helping Jehan here and there.

Before moving with my new family one of the ladies from the center told me that Mother had been sending money every month. Apparently she wanted to make sure I got the best treatment, and that I was always comfortable. I hope I can see her again some day.

END.

I close my journal, and put it away.

As I get up, a knock at the door catches me off guard.

"Yea?"

"Breakfast is ready, sir." She shouts through the door.

"I'll be down in a second. Thank you!"

Her footsteps get quieter and quieter as she walks away.

By the time I get dressed, and make my way downstairs Jehan and Ermine are waiting for me.

"Goodmorning!" She gives me a warm smile.

"Morning."

"Goodmorning to you two." I pull the chair back and sit down.

"The day has arrived. How do you feel?" Jehan asks.

"Good, hopefully he lives up to my expectations." I joke.

I take a few bites out of my breakfast.

"You won't be disappointed. After those two months you'll be the strongest in the kingdom, without even mentioning magic."

"What do you plan on doing after the training is done?" Ermine speaks out.

"I'm going to become a hunter."

"A hunter? I thought you were going to help me with business."

I take a sip of my drink.

"I can manage both if I really have to." I answer, setting the cup back down.

They aren't aware of my plans, not that I don't trust them, I just want the least amount of people to know.

"If you say so."

After breakfast I decided to go on a stroll around the kingdom.

The vendors and drunks greet me as I walk. I've made a good name for myself here, and Jehan's reputation sure helped as well.

After sitting around and chatting with some people I decided to make one last stop.

The cliff.

The cliff is more of an area with an ocean view, a really nice one.

The waves almost reach all the way up to me as they crash.

I stood there for a while just staring out until it was time for me to finally leave.

Before getting in the carriage that's supposed to take me to place I grab my sword, my bag filled with books, and some clothing, then say goodbye to Jehan, Ermine, and the few maids we have.

I greet my driver and get in.

Jehan told me to sleep as much as I can before I get there, since he runs a strict training regimen.

After these two months I plan on going back to the Cusite kingdom, and become a hunter.

And use my influence as a hunter to gain fame, which when mixed with Jehan's influence should get me a good seat politically wise. Then from there on out I'll figure it out.

Easier said than done, that's why I have to train as hard as I can in these two months.

But I should be well off, there is just one thing that bothers me.

My special object. Will I get one?

If I get one it'll make everything easier, I could get two, maybe even four times stronger if I do.

Before I realized it a few hours had already gone by, so I decided to do what Jehan recommended, and fall asleep.

"Hey." "Hey."

"Sir, we have arrived." A figure which I can't make out because of the sun beaming behind him.

It must be the driver.

I sit up, using my left hand to block the sun from getting into my eyes.

"Thank you for waking me up."

After getting my eyes used to the brightness I step out of the carriage. My sword bangs on the door as I walk out.

"Huh?"

I was expecting a village, or at least a small one, but it's just one house.

"Are we in the correct place?" I ask the driver who is closing the door behind me.

"Oh yes sir."

"I can assure you this is it."

"Expecting more?" He laughs.

"The instructions from your father say to just walk up."

"Alright."

"Thank you." I start walking up to the house in the distance.

Grasslands to the left and right, and a forest not too far behind the house.

The closer I get the more I realize it looks more like a cabin than anything.

"Hopefully he knows what he's doing." I sigh.

There are crates next to the house, I don't know what they have inside them but maybe I'll find out.

I walk up to the door and knock.

After a few seconds I knock again.

Stumbling and steps can be heard from inside.

"H-hold on!" An annoyed voice calls out.

A loud groan follows it up.

Then someone finally opens the door.

A man, almost the same build as me, a bit shorter, and drunk is the one who opens the door.

"Huh?" He shoots me a confused look.

"You must be N-Naxon." He leans on the door, so as to not fall over.

"Nixon, yes." I answer back annoyed.

He steps out and looks me up and down.

"Good, good." He says rubbing his chin.

He points to the crates. "Bring me one of those crates and come inside."

"Alright." I quickly answer and pick up one of the crates. It weighs no more than eighteen kg.

He slaps me on the back as I walk through the door, and once inside I place it down in a corner.

"I thought I was going to have to bring it in."

"Got lucky" He laughs.

"What's inside?"

"Training supplies? Furniture, Food?"

"Nope."

He breaks the seal off and opens it.

"Booze." He laughs.

I thought I was going to be training, instead it looks like I have to take care of a drunk.

"Help me carry a few bottles and come on. We are going somewhere."
