Chapter 1 - The Midnight Secret Of Ghorgol

Once, there was a girl named Preeti who lived in a small village called Ghorgol. The village was surrounded by dense bamboo forests, muddy paths, and an old pond that villagers avoided after sunset. Preeti lived with her mother, father, and her 7-year-old sister, Mili. She studied in standard 9, and her board exams were near, so her days were filled with books, notes, and long hours of study.

One rainy day, the sky turned dark from early morning. It rained heavily without stopping. Thunder roared like an angry beast, and lightning flashed across the sky. Due to the storm, there was no electricity in the village.

But Preeti didn't stop.

She sat in her room, studying under the dim yellow light of a hurricane lamp. The flame flickered every time the wind slipped through the cracks of the window. Outside, the rain hit the ground like thousands of tiny drums.

One by one, the villagers went to sleep early. Even her family fell asleep. Only Preeti stayed awake, turning pages, whispering answers, and solving problems.

Then—

**Dong… Dong… Dong…**

The pendulum clock in her room struck twelve.

Midnight.

Preeti stretched her arms and decided to sleep. She closed her books and began arranging her table. That's when she heard it.

A strange sound.

It came from the backyard… just under her window.

At first, it was faint—like something dragging or scratching. She paused and listened carefully. The sound came again.

*Scrrr… scrrr…*

Her heart skipped a beat.

"It's nothing," she whispered to herself and lay down.

But the sound didn't stop.

It grew louder.

Closer.

Heavier.

Now it sounded like something… moving.

Preeti sat up suddenly. Her throat went dry. She grabbed her torch and slowly walked toward the window.

Her hands trembled as she pushed it open slightly.

She flashed the torch outside.

And then—

She saw something white.

Something… standing.

Her breath froze.

She quickly shut the window and jumped back into bed, covering herself with a blanket. Her heart pounded loudly in her ears.

"What was that?" she whispered.

Fear wrapped around her like the cold night air. But something else was growing inside her too—

Curiosity.

Minutes passed.

The sound continued.

She couldn't resist anymore.

Slowly, she got up again.

This time, she walked more carefully. Step by step, she reached the window and opened it just a little wider. She held the torch tightly and pointed it outside.

She saw it again.

White.

Still.

But now—

She saw four legs.

Her eyes widened.

She focused harder.

And then…

She let out a long breath.

"It's just a cow…" she said softly.

A white cow was grazing peacefully in the backyard.

Preeti almost laughed at herself. She shook her head and was about to close the window when—

The cow stopped moving.

Slowly… it lifted its head.

And looked directly at her.

Its eyes…

Were glowing.

Not like a normal animal.

But like burning embers in the dark.

Preeti froze.

The cow didn't blink.

It just stared.

Then, something impossible happened.

The cow's body began to change.

Its legs stretched unnaturally long. Its back arched. The white skin flickered like smoke. And within seconds, the cow transformed into a tall, shadowy figure.

Preeti gasped—but no sound came out.

The figure stood silently.

Then it spoke.

"Preeti…"

Her blood ran cold.

"How do you know my name?" she whispered.

The figure moved closer—but its feet never touched the ground.

"I have been watching you… for many nights."

Preeti stepped back, her hand shaking.

"W-who are you?"

"I am a guardian… of something your village has forgotten."

Lightning flashed.

For a moment, she saw its face—

Not human.

Not animal.

Something ancient.

"The pond…" it said slowly. "Do you know what lies beneath it?"

Preeti shook her head.

The figure raised its long arm and pointed toward the dark forest beyond the backyard.

"Tomorrow night… come there. Alone."

"I won't!" Preeti said, finding a bit of courage.

The figure's glowing eyes dimmed slightly.

"If you don't… your village will not see another dawn like this."

Thunder roared again.

And in that flash of light—

The figure vanished.

The cow was gone.

The backyard was empty.

Silence.

Only the rain remained.

The Next Day

Preeti couldn't focus on her studies. The words in her books blurred. Her mind kept returning to the glowing eyes… the voice… the warning.

Was it a dream?

No.

It felt too real.

That evening, she went near the pond with her friends—but nothing seemed unusual. Still, she noticed something strange: the water was darker than usual… almost black.

That night, she made a decision.

She would go

The Second Night

At midnight, Preeti quietly stepped out of her house. The rain had stopped, but the air was heavy.

She walked toward the forest.

Each step felt harder than the last.

When she reached the edge, she saw it again.

The glowing eyes.

"You came," the figure said.

"What do you want?" Preeti asked.

The figure turned toward the pond.

"Beneath that pond lies a sealed gate. Long ago, your ancestors locked away something dangerous. But the seal is breaking."

Preeti felt a chill run down her spine.

"What is inside?"

The figure paused.

"Not something… someone."

Lightning flashed again.

"The Shadow King."

The ground trembled slightly.

"And only you can stop it."

"Me?" Preeti stepped back. "I'm just a student!"

The figure's voice deepened.

"You are the last descendant of the one who sealed him."

Preeti's heart raced.

"And if I refuse?"

The figure looked at her silently.

"Then Ghorgol will disappear… by the next full moon."

The Adventure Begins

From that night, Preeti's life changed forever.

Books were no longer her only challenge.

Now, she had to uncover ancient secrets, face hidden dangers beneath the pond, and prepare for a battle against something far more terrifying than anything she had imagined.

A war between light and shadow had begun.

And Preeti—

A simple village girl—

Was at the center of it
