Chapter 6 - Reformation (2/3)

In the dead of night where darkness covered the sky and forest. There is a small light from a far. Like a single firefly in the darkness of the sky.

A lone carriage makes it's way through a dense forest. The path was uneven with stray rocks and stray plant roots. Inside of the carriage has only one person. Noah sits on the corner with a small bag of his belongings. He remained quiet as the nights ambience fills his silence. Insect noises, the horse's breathing and the shaky carriage wheels rolling on the bumpy path. The ride felt eternal it felt like it's been hours, days, or weeks...

Noah was sent to a far away Town as a guard. He was given a new Identity and background. It was to cover up the existence of the forced drafting and the hundreds of death that came after the war. The other survivors that were in the carriage we're already dropped off at each for their assigned towns and cities. Some became a blacksmith, a cook, a teacher, and other things.

After another hour of silence the carriage exits the forest to a clearing. Just as the sun rises shining of over a town in the horizon... This was Noah's destination and he finally made it. The coachman smoked a cigar and the hat he was wearing his his full appearance except for a grey beard. "That's your stop kid." He said in a raspy voice. "This place is far from any politics and the other bullshit from the capital" He said as they near the outskirts of the town.

There was a building outside with a that reads "Guard outpost".

"This is where you'll be living. So get off my carriage kid." The coachman said. Noah climbs out his small bag slung over his shoulder. He sees the Barracks, an old rundown cabin. He opened the doors and sees that the interior is only slightly dusty and not fully abandoned and broken. Some old furniture and a simple kitchen. It needed some cleaning but it wasn't as bad as sleeping on dirt. He started to clean up on his own. Getting off all the dust with a broom he fround. The floor boards creaked at every step.

After a long while The coach man returned "Hey kid the Mayor said you'll start tomorrow." The coach man said in his raspy voice from all his smoking. He jumps back to his carriage and leaves back to the forest. Noah was now all alone in the cabin. He continues to clean. He finds a worn empty book under a bed in the bedroom. He also sees a pencil with it. So he decided to keep it for himself.

He explored more and found some guard weapons. A sword, a simple spear, and a man catcher. He only took the sword. And left the other weapons to gather more dust on their racks. After a bland and uneventful dinner, Noah was laying down on his bed. He picked up the empty book and started writing his day. Assigning it with the title of "Day one : 6-12-1635"

After writing his day he placed it inside the bedroom nightstand drawer along with the pencil. He remains tense and sleeps off just like his life before. Always aware of his surroundings even in sleep. The next morning Noah wakes up as the sun is rising. He gets up to maintain his body and eat breakfast. He sheathed his sword around his waist. Then the documents of his new Identity on his satchel.

He sets off to the mayor's building. He definitely stands out. Unlike the usual townsfolk he has that. That feeling that you know something is about to happen. He walks around... He got lost. He walked around more and ended up in the market. His appearance of a neutral expression and the tired empty eyes intimidated some people. He approached one stall that was selling vegetables. "Sir, Can I ask-" Noah stopped as he noticed the man wasn't listening to him, not even looking him in the eye.

He walked away to try other stalls but none even looked at him... He tried a fruit stall with a brown haired girl. "Miss." Noah tested to she if she'll react. "Yes?" The girl immediately responded back. "Do you know the direction to the town's government building?" He asked in a flat tone. "Oh? It's just straight from here past the bakery and turn left, when you see a pub then keep going straight then you'll arive at the Town Hall." She described in detail.

Noah understood. Before he could leave the girl stopped her. "Hey, your new around here aren't you? We don't really get new comers in this town." She states as the brown haired girl picked up an apple tossing it to Noah which he caught instinctively. "What's your name?" She asked curiously. Noah paused for a second. He almost answered Noah. But...

"I'm Leonard." He said as he walked away.

He arrived at the town Hall. It was marble and stone. The receptionist were on edge with Noah's presence. He was directed to the Mayor. He entered the Mayor's office closing the door behind him as he walked inside. She was on her chair turned to back against him facing the window. She turned around to face him.

She was completely the opposite of what he expected her to be. Her red hair is tied back and her eyes are bright red. She was wearing Formal pants, boots, and she was smoking a cigar. She was stern and a gun is visible from her hip holster. But she was just wearing a bra. She had a six pack and lean muscles and her full breasts is visible only contained and covered by her bra that held them in place. Noah was more focuses on the gun than her exposed skin

She suddenly stood up and approached the head seat between the two couches. Her boots thudding on the tiled floor.

He sat on the couch across from her. "So your the new guy huh?" She asked in a gruff tone. She noticed how he's staring right at her eyes instead of anywhere else. "You got a starin problem or somethin?" She asked slightly annoyed, when she doesn't hear a response, she huffed and crossed her arms. "Just hand me your papers." She said extending her open hand.

Noah handed her the papers of his new identity.

Name: Leonard

Age: 20

Marital status: single

Date of Birth: 11-9-1615

She checks everything and it seemed legit. She checks more. And found no anomalies. "Hey, tell me your name." She tested to see if it was fabricated. "Leonard" Noah responded. "Age and Date of birth?" She asked next. "20, November 9 1615" She asked more and Noah answered what was in the documents as if he memorized each word and number there.

She slammed the papers on the coffee table between them. "Alright. Everything is in order... But. Let's see if your fit to be a guard..." She paused and stood up. "Follow me. Let's see if you can handle yourself." Noah follows her out the office. "I'm Maribama by the way." The staff greet her with a bow which she just brushes off. She was the Mayor but didn't feel like a Mayor...

The two walked together "You know..." She starts. "This town was very unique. Unlike most where guards or knights are authority... This place has adventurers as enforcement." Noah didn't really need to hear this. "It was always like this. Crime is non existence since the townsfolk we're welcoming and kind..." Her hands tightened then continued to walk finally arriving to their destination. An open combat area, the floor of was tiles in stone.

Maribama walked to the center. She pulled out her gun from it's holster and imbued mana into it. "This puppy is a mana weapon. But don't worry about me. I'll go easy on ya. So come at me kid." She fires a mana shot at his direction Noah's mind clicked. His pupils narrowing. He nearly got hit. But dodged none the less. He rushes towards her sword unsheathed. Maribama fired mana shots continuously which are slowly getting easiely dodged by Noah, his eyes honed in on her gun. When Noah got close enough she pulled out a dagger.

"Gotcha" Maribama said but Noah gripped her daggers blade pushing her down his sword pressed on her throat. He almost goes through but snapped out of it. "You win kid." Maribama said raising her hands in defeat. Noah pulled his sword away but as he did it sliced one of her bra straps and one of her breasts spilled out. Noah didn't react he just sheathed his sword and got up.

Maribama was surprised that he didn't even react... She tied back the strap together. "I personally approve your citizenship. You start tomorrow." She said as Noah walked out the town Hall. "What a weird kid..." She murmurs to himself.
