Keifer's POV
I didn't sleep well at all last night. It turns out I have officially formed a habit of hugging Jay to fall asleep. When I realized I couldn't rest, I tried hugging a pillow instead, but it didn't work—I still couldn't drift off. Now, a frustrating thought was looping in my mind: How the hell am I going to sleep in London for the next fifteen days? I seriously considered just packing Jayjay up and taking her with me, but her big brother is such a massive pain. Even though we are literally married, Angelo still insists on interfering in her life. Since my flight was scheduled in exactly one hour, I decided I would see Jayjay one last time before heading to the airport. It was still way too early for school, so I was positive she would still be sound asleep.
After forcing myself to swallow a breakfast I didn't even want, I got into my car and drove over to her house. Pulling up a short distance away from her front gate, I dialed her number.
"Hello?" she answered. Her voice was clear, making it obvious she hadn't just woken up.
"Jay, I'm standing right outside your gate. Come down," I said.
"Why?" she asked, sounding surprised.
"My flight leaves in an hour, so obviously I wanted to see you before I go," I explained.
"Okay, I'm coming," she said, hanging up the phone.
I only had to wait a few moments before the front door opened and she stepped outside. The moment she spotted me, she locked eyes with me and sprinted down the path. Before I could even react, she threw her arms around me, hugging me incredibly tightly. I was a little shocked by her sudden burst of affection, but a smile tugged at my lips as I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed her back.
When she finally pulled away slightly, I noticed the faint, dark circles shadowing her face. She looked exhausted.
"Didn't you sleep last night?" I asked, gently brushing my thumb under her eyes.
"I did, but I kept waking up every few minutes," she admitted softly.
"That's because you were secretly missing me," I teased, trying to lighten the heavy mood.
To my absolute surprise, she actually nodded. "Yeah, I was," she confessed honestly. She leaned back in and hugged me tightly for the second time. "Can you please come back early?" she whispered.
"If I could, I would, Jay," I said softly, rubbing her back soothingly.
She buried her face deep into my chest, staying perfectly still in that position for a long while. When she finally pulled back to look up at me, a soft smile broke across her face. "I'm going to miss you," she said.
I smiled right back down at her. "I'm going to miss you too."
"By the way... why are you even here?" she asked suddenly, acting as if I hadn't just explained everything to her on the phone a minute ago.
I smirked, leaning in a bit closer. "Like I said, my flight is in an hour. If my plane crashes mid-air, you are the only person I want on my mind. So, I came to see you."
Jayjay's eyes widened, and she instantly brought her hand up, hitting me hard on the chest. "Stop saying such absolute nonsense!" she scolded.
I chuckled at her reaction. "Why? Don't tell me you actually care if I die?" I teased mercilessly.
"No wife wants her husband to die, you idiot!" she snapped, hitting my chest yet again to emphasize her point.
"Ouch, that one actually hurt," I laughed softly, rubbing my chest. Seeing a matching smile finally break across her face made the painful weight of leaving her just a little bit easier to bear.
"Now go, before you end up being late for your flight," she said, gently turning me around by my shoulders and pushing my back lightly to guide me toward the car.
"Wait, wait, wait! What's the sudden hurry?" I laughed, stopping in my tracks. I turned around to face her again, gently cupping her face in my hands. "Just a little something for my wifey," I murmured, leaning down to press a soft kiss against her forehead.
She stood there, a beautiful smile lighting up her face. But before I could even step back, she suddenly leaned forward and quickly kissed both of my cheeks.
"Just a little something for my hubby," she countered playfully, her eyes sparkling.
I grinned, completely charmed. "Are you seriously trying to compete with me right now?" I joked.
"Oh, yeah. Because I already know I'll win," she teased back, tilting her head.
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah, really!" she said, and the two of us burst into loud laughter right there by the gate.
"Okay, now you seriously need to go," she insisted.
I finally walked over to the driver's side and climbed into the seat. I was just about to twist the key in the ignition when she frantically signaled for me to roll down the window. I stopped and looked up as she rushed over to my side of the car.
"Take care of yourself. Sleep well, eat well, and if absolutely anything happens, you call me immediately, okay?" she ordered, her inner protective side showing.
I laughed softly at her serious tone. "Yes, madam," I replied, bringing two fingers up to my brow in a playful salute.
"Bye-bye, love you!" she blurted out. Before I could even process those words, she leaned through the open window, planted one last quick kiss on my cheek, and instantly bolted back up the walkway toward her house.
"BYE-BYE!" she yelled from the safety of the front door, waving her hand frantically before slipping inside.
"BYE-BYE!" I yelled back into the quiet morning air.
A massive smile remained glued to my face as I finally started the engine and pulled away from the curb. As the house faded in my rearview mirror, a small thought crossed my mind. I just hope everything goes smoothly here while I am gone.
Jayjay'sPOV
I ran back inside the house, watching through the window as his car finally pulled away from the curb. My cheeks were burning, and I knew for a fact that I was blushing like crazy. Still, despite the butterflies, a heavy wave of sadness washed over me. I was genuinely upset about him leaving. Letting out a long sigh, I started walking down the hallway, mindlessly fidgeting with my fingers, completely lost in my thoughts until I suddenly bumped straight into a solid chest.
Rubbing my forehead, I looked up to see who it was. Of course, it was Kuya Angelo.
"Where did you just go, and why are you pouting like that?" he asked, his voice serious but calm as he looked down at me.
"I just went outside because Keifer was at the gate," I explained, touching my face. "And... am I really pouting?"
Kuya Angelo nodded firmly. "Why was he here so early?"
"To see me," I said softly.
"Why?"
"Because he's going to London today, and he wanted to see me before he left," I replied.
Kuya Angelo nodded slowly, processing the news. "Oh. When is his flight?"
"He said it was in an hour," I said, glancing over his shoulder at the wall clock. "No, wait... now it's in exactly forty-five minutes." I looked back up at him.
"Okay. Go upstairs and get ready for school," he instructed. I turned around and was just about to take a step toward the stairs when he spoke up again. "By the way, Tita Jeana will be coming back in about a month. It could even be less than that."
My eyes widened slightly, but I just nodded and headed up to my room. I took a long shower to clear my head, changed into my school uniform, and packed my bag.
When I headed downstairs, I realized I hadn't eaten breakfast yet, so I sat down at my usual seat and started eating quietly. After a few minutes, Aries joined me at the table and began eating his food too. Once we both finished, we headed outside to the car. Since Keifer wasn't here, Aries was back on duty for dropping me off and picking me up. Because he had to pick up Ella on the way, I climbed into the back seat to leave the front open for her.
We arrived at Ella's house, and she hurried out the front door. She hopped into the passenger seat, and almost immediately, she and Aries started chatting. She tried to ask me a couple of questions from the front seat, but I just wasn't in the mood to talk. I gave her simple nods and short, one-word replies.
Before long, we reached the school gates. I said goodbye, hopped out, and walked straight to the classroom.
The room was exactly as chaotic as always. Some of the guys were aggressively throwing paper balls at each other, a group was huddled together gossiping—including the undisputed gossip king, Ci-N—and a few people like Josh, Eman, Yuri, and Eren were quietly reading through their notes.
I walked over to my desk, which was situated right in the middle of Yuri and Keifer. I stared blankly at Keifer's empty chair. A million questions started racing through my mind. Has he boarded the plane yet? Has he even reached the airport safely? My entire brain was completely consumed by thoughts of him.
Letting out a heavy sigh, I forced myself to look straight ahead at the blackboard.
"Good morning," Yuri's voice suddenly broke through my thoughts. I turned my head toward him.
"Morning," I replied bluntly, before immediately turning back to stare straight ahead.
Yuri blinked, noticing the heavy vibe. "Where is Keifer?"
"His flight to London is today. Didn't you guys know?" I asked.
The moment the words left my mouth, the entire classroom froze. The loud chatter instantly died down.
"He didn't tell any of us," Yuri said, looking completely surprised.
"Oh, yeah. That's because he only found out about it yesterday himself," I explained, trying to defend him. "He probably just forgot to mention it."
"But he definitely didn't forget to tell his wife," Felix teased from across the room, flashing a smirk.
I didn't even have the energy to snap back. I just let out another long, exhausted sigh and completely ignored his comment.
Seeing my expression, Felix quickly held up his hands. "Okay, okay... she is clearly not in the mood today," he muttered to the group. Realizing I needed space, everyone quietly went back to doing their own work, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
The school bell rang, cutting through the quiet tension in the room. Sir Alvin arrived and immediately started teaching the lesson, but honestly, I wasn't listening to a single word he said. I spent the entire class completely zoned out, my mind thousands of miles away.
Just like that, the lunch bell finally rang. The rest of the class quickly piled out of the room, except for Ci-N. He stayed behind, looking at me with a worried expression.
"Aren't you coming to the cafeteria?" he asked gently.
"No, I'm not going," I replied, looking up at him. "Can you bring something back for me instead?"
Noticing my downcast mood, he didn't even argue. He just nodded understandingly and walked out of the classroom. The exact second he left, my phone suddenly buzzed in my pocket. My heart did a little flip. It was him. IT WAS KEIFER!
From: King Bingi
Just landed in London. I miss my nectar already 😕
To: King Bingi
I'm glad you landed safely. I miss the king too.
From: King Bingi
It's lunch time there. Did you eat yet?
A soft smile broke across my face. It was amazing how, even though he was so far away from me in a completely different country, he was still exactly the same, constantly worrying about me.
To: King Bingi
I wasn't in the mood to go down and get food, so I just asked Ci-N to bring me something.
From: King Bingi
Did he actually agree? If he doesn't bring it, tell him he'll have to deal with me when I get back.
To: King Bingi
He agreed, stupid. Stop being like that.
From: King Bingi
Like what?
To: King Bingi
Nothing. Now go get some rest and sleep for a while.
From: King Bingi
Ok, Madam.
To: King Bingi
Good hubby.
I stared down at the screen, my heart feeling incredibly full. Right at that exact second, Ci-N walked back into the classroom carrying a tray of food. He handed it over to me and casually slid into Keifer's empty seat right next to mine.
Mid-bite, he paused and looked at me suspiciously. "Why are you smiling to yourself like that?"
It was only then that I realized a massive, goofy grin was plastered across my face. It was entirely the King's fault. I quickly straightened my expression, trying to act completely natural.
"I'm not smiling," I denied firmly.
Ci-N just shrugged and nodded, continuing to eat his lunch, though I knew he didn't completely buy my excuse.
Ci-N and I finished eating our lunch in relative silence, and shortly after, the rest of Section E piled back into the classroom.
"Oh, Jay! We all just got a text from Keifer," Calix announced the moment he walked through the door.
"What?" I asked, blinking in surprise.
"Check the group chat," Yuri suggested, nodding toward my desk.
I quickly pulled my phone out of my bag and opened our group message.
Group: Mutya And Ulupongs
Keifer: If I come back and find out that absolutely anything happened to Jay, I am going to beat every single one of you. And don't you all dare tease her while I'm gone.
A sweet smile spread across my face as I read the screen. Aww, my husband is honestly so incredibly caring. I looked up from my phone and glanced at the guys.
"How on earth are we supposed to survive fifteen days without teasing Jayjay?" Drew muttered, looking completely defeated.
I playfully stuck my tongue out at them. Right at that exact moment, my phone started vibrating and ringing in my hand. I checked the screen—it was him again! I immediately stood up from my chair and was about to walk out of the room to get some privacy when a hand suddenly gripped my arm, stopping me. I looked up to see who it was.
"Class is about to start, Jay," David said seriously.
I gently pulled my arm out of his grasp. "I'll be super quick," I promised. I turned to leave again, but this time, someone grabbed my other arm.
"Who is calling that you are being this impatient to talk?" Yuri asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Obviously it's Keifer! Now leave my arm or else," I threatened playfully. Yuri instantly let go, raising his hands in retreat. I bolted out of the classroom, sprinting all the way down to the school ground before hitting the green button to answer the call.
"Finally," Keifer's voice came through the speaker, letting out a long sigh.
"Sorry! I was running down to the school ground so I could talk," I explained, catching my breath.
"Okay, so tell me—did any of them do anything to bother you yet?" he demanded to know.
"No, they didn't do anything," I laughed softly.
"They better not. If they do, I swear I am going to beat every single one of them to a pulp," he said firmly.
"And what if they actually do something, but I just don't tell you about it?" I asked playfully, testing him.
"Then I'll just find out myself," he replied instantly without a single shred of doubt.
"How?" I asked, curious.
"I have my ways," he said. His mysterious "ways"—honestly, I have never understood them, and I probably never will.
"Okay, the bell is ringing, so I have to go back to class now. I'll call you again later. Take care, bye!" I said.
"You too. Bye, Jay," he said, and I disconnected the call.
I turned around and sprinted back inside the main school building because the next period had officially started. Oh, crap! I realized with a jolt that it was Ma'am Cindy's class. There was no way she would let me walk in late without making a huge scene. I'll just skip this period and slip in during the next class, I thought to myself. Turning on my heel, I hurried into the empty classroom right next to ours to hide out until the bell rang again. I was just sitting peacefully in the quiet, empty room when my phone started vibrating and ringing in my hand once again. I looked down at the screen—it was him, but this time, it was a video call. I quickly swiped to answer. The screen lit up to show him sitting in a dimly lit room. Even with the poor lighting, I could easily see his tired eyes and his messy, unstyled hair.
"Where exactly are you right now?" he asked, his voice serious as he scanned my background.
"Obviously at school, idiot," I snapped back in a harsh whisper.
"If you're actually at school, then how the hell are you answering my video call right now?" he asked, raising a sarcastic eyebrow.
"I'm not inside the classroom. I'm hiding in the empty room right beside ours," I confessed.
His frown deepened. "And why did you miss class?"
Why on earth was he interrogating me like a strict principal?
"Because of you!" I snapped angrily, glaring at the camera.
"Me?" He blinked, genuinely caught off guard.
"Yeah, you! When you called me earlier, I had to run all the way down to the school ground to talk to you. By the time I got back up here, Ma'am Cindy's class had already started. I just didn't want to deal with her annoying interrogation when my day is already going so badly," I complained, crossing my arms.
A slow smirk suddenly tugged at the corners of his lips. "And why is your day so bad?"
I chewed on my lip, looking away from the camera for a second before looking back at him. "Obviously because you just left... and I miss you," I admitted softly.
The smirk melted off his face, replaced by a genuinely soft, longing expression. He looked just as upset about the distance as I was.
"I miss you too," he said quietly. "I'm sorry. But look, once I get back, we'll skip school together and just have our own time, okay?"
"Kuya Angelo will never agree to that," I muttered, knowing how strict my brother could be.
Keifer scoffed, his usual arrogant confidence returning. "I don't give a damn about him. You are my wife. I'll take you out whether he likes it or not. It's your choice and my choice, so he can't stop us."
I couldn't help but laugh softly at his stubbornness, the heavy weight in my chest lifting just a little. "Anyway, what are you doing right now?" I asked.
"Talking to you," he replied bluntly.
I literally slapped my hand against my forehead. "I mean, what are you going to do today?"
"Attend a bunch of boring corporate meetings, deal with a red-carpet client who happens to be a total narcissist, and then get everything ready for tomorrow," he listed off, rubbing his temples.
I nodded understandingly. It sounded like he was going to be absolutely swamped with work. "Have you eaten anything yet?"
"Yeah, I did," he answered.
"Okay, I'll hang up now so you can get ready. Bye," I said, lingering for a second.
"Bye, Jay," he said softly.
I disconnected the call and stared at the blank screen.
The school bell rang again, signaling the end of the period. I quickly rushed back into our classroom, slipped into my seat, and waited as the next teacher walked in. He started teaching, and this time, I actually paid attention to the lesson. My heart felt so much lighter after that video call with Keifer.
The rest of the classes went by smoothly, and finally, the dismissal bell rang. It was time to go home and get some rest. I packed my bags and walked out to the parking lot, but as I looked around, I realized Aries' car was nowhere to be seen. That horoscope had seriously left me behind!
Suddenly, my phone buzzed in my hand. I checked it, and sure enough, it was a message from Aries.
From: Horoscope
Sorry Jay, I had to leave early before lunch. Ella wasn't feeling well, so I'm over at her house taking care of her. Can you book a cab home today?
To: Horoscope
It's fine, yeah. I can manage. Take care of her. Bye.
I hit send and started scanning the street for a taxi. Spotting an empty one, I quickly flagged it down and climbed into the back seat. I gave the taxi driver my home address, but the traffic on the main road was completely jammed.
As we crawled through the traffic, my phone buzzed again. I figured it was either Kuya Angelo checking up on me or Aries again, but when I looked at the screen, it was Keifer.
From: King Bingi
Jayjay, can you please go check on Keiran right now? He just called me and he was crying, and then his call suddenly disconnected.
To: King Bingi
Okay.
Panic shot through me. I quickly sent the reply and then looked up at the driver. I gave the taxi driver Keifer's home address instead. He looked a bit pissed off about the sudden change, but he grumbled and changed the route anyway.
The moment the taxi pulled up outside his house, I handed the driver his money and bolted out of the car. He drove off immediately. I rushed up to the front door and pushed it open, stepping inside.
The scene right in front of my eyes made my heart completely drop...
The End 🌸.
