The responses began arriving the next morning.
Not all forty-three territories. Some of them. The ones whose practitioners read the relay messages regularly and responded quickly.
The first response came from a village called Chuan He. A practitioner named Mei Dao. Sixty-one years old. Had been doing the morning exercises for eight months since the archive documentation arrived.

He read the message.
He thought about six hours.
He thought about the generating sections that had been building for fifty years.
He sent back: *Six hours did not reverse fifty years. The section is still there. Keep going.*
More responses came through Shen Bo's routing.
Most of them were variations of Mei Dao's message. Received the false message. Stopped briefly. Received his message. Resumed.
Some had not stopped at all.
A practitioner at a waypoint shelter one li from a developing section. Her message: *I received the message saying the hollow was destroyed. I kept doing the exercises because the section under my feet felt the same as it did yesterday. A message is a message. The land is the land.*
He showed that one to Lin Mei.
She read it.
She said: "She trusted the land over the message."
"Yes," he said.
"Because she has been practicing in that section for eight months," she said. "She knows what it feels like. The message could not override what she knew."
"Yes," he said.
"The practice itself builds the trust," she said. "The practitioners who practice consistently enough to feel the section directly cannot be disrupted by false messages about it."
He looked at the grey blade.
He thought about this.
The faction's disruption strategy had a ceiling. The practitioners who were deeply enough embedded in their practice to feel the section's frequency directly were immune to the false message. The message could only disrupt practitioners who were practicing without yet feeling the section directly — the ones who were doing the exercises based on information rather than experience.
The solution was not faster message routing.
The solution was depth of practice.
"Li Shan," he said.
He sent the observation.
Li Shan's response: *Adding to the archive's growing season section. The false message vulnerability decreases as practice depth increases. Practitioners who have been working at a developing section for six months or more have developed enough direct frequency sensitivity to verify the section's status independently.*

He showed it to Shen Bo's relay response that arrived alongside it.

*Three are in territory with no personal relay address on record — they received the archive distribution through a shared station relay.*
*I am locating the shared station contacts now.*
*Also: the elder in Raohe heard about the false messages through a separate channel and sent a response before our counter-message arrived. His response: if something was wrong with the land, the land would feel different. It does not. I am doing the exercises.*
*He sent that before anyone told him the hollow was intact.*

He read Shen Bo's message.
He read the elder's response.
He thought about a seventy-eight year old man doing morning exercises for forty years and trusting what he felt under his feet over what someone told him.
He counted nothing.
He kept walking.
The work was large.
