Chapter 127 - Wei Han Again

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN

### Wei Han Again

A message from Wei Han arrived on the third day south.

Not a report. A question.

*The southeastern sections. The ones I told you about — adjacent to Shadow Sect's western operational boundary. The movement I flagged three months ago.*

*The movement has changed pattern. Not toward the sections specifically. Away from them.*

*Shadow Sect's western operational boundary cultivators are moving deeper into their territory. Not advancing. Retreating.*

*I do not know what to make of this.*

He read the message.

He thought about option three.

About the internal debate within Shadow Sect command. About the faction that would not adapt. About the majority that was beginning to.

"The western boundary," he said to Lin Mei.

She read the message.

"Option three beginning," she said.

"Possibly," he said. "The western boundary practitioners moving deeper into their territory — away from the sections Wei Han has been working in."

"They are reducing their exposure to non-inert spiritual conditions," she said. "While the adaptation debate continues internally."

"If the majority commits to option three," he said, "the boundary shift is the first visible sign."

"And if the faction that opposes option three acts independently," she said, "the boundary shift masks the faction's positioning."

He looked at her.

"Send it to Li Shan," she said.

He sent it.

Li Shan's response: *The boundary shift is consistent with organizational reassessment. The dead zone's northern sections show the same pattern — Shadow Sect cultivators moving away from the areas closest to the seeded section fringe. Not advancing. Consolidating.*

*This is what option three looks like at the beginning. The organization pulls back from the contested boundary to create space for the adaptation work.*

*Mo Xuan said the same thing happened to his network when he redirected it. The first visible sign was the agents pulling back from their active positions.*

*The faction that opposes option three will not pull back. Watch for cultivation signatures that hold position while the organization withdraws.*

*I am watching.*

He read the message.

"Li Shan is watching the faction," Jian Yu said.

"Yes," Lin Mei said.

"He will tell us twenty minutes before they move," he said.

"Yes," she said.

He sent a message to Wei Han.

*The boundary shift is option three beginning. Continue the southeastern section work. Report any cultivation signatures that hold position while the rest withdraw.*

Wei Han's response: *Understood. The two sections adjacent to Shadow Sect's western boundary — one is at seventy-one percent of threshold. The other is at sixty-three. The withdrawal is giving both sections space to develop without interference.*

*The work is easier now that they are not there.*

*I am continuing.*

He read that last line.

The work is easier now that they are not there.

Three months ago Wei Han had been reporting Shadow Sect movement near his sections. Flagging it as a potential threat. The threat had been real.

Now the threat was withdrawing.

Not because Wei Han had pushed it back.

Because the organization the threat belonged to was changing what it was.

He thought about Mo Xuan standing at the formation's edge. The grief. Thirty years of being the threat.

And then adapting.

And now writing a document for practitioners who needed to make the same change.

"Tell Wei Han to send the document Mo Xuan writes to the southeastern practitioners as well," Lin Mei said. "When Mo Xuan finishes it. The practitioners in Wei Han's territory who are adjacent to Shadow Sect's western boundary — if option three produces practitioners who are adapting, those are the people they will encounter first."

"Yes," he said.

He sent it.

He counted fourteen breaths.

The road continued south toward the transition zone.

The domain extended thirty-one li around him.

He could feel the six generating sections and the developing sections and the formation site with Li Shan at the Sword Rain position and the dead zone's boundary shifting as option three began.

Everything present.

Everything connected.

He walked south and counted fourteen and stayed at fourteen.

Don't waste it.

He was not wasting a single day.
