The estate did not return to its previous equilibrium after the report was delivered, because equilibrium required clarity, and clarity had not been achieved. Instead, the information lingered like an unresolved fracture in the system subtle, unseen, but continuously affecting how everything else moved. Aurelian Voss had not entered the estate. He had not crossed its gates. He had not spoken to anyone within its walls. What existed instead was a border report fragmented intelligence delivered through patrol channels and filtered through layers of interpretation before it reached those who mattered.

"Unconfirmed sighting near the northern boundary," the messenger had said. "Subject identified as Aurelian Voss. No breach detected. No engagement occurred. Subject withdrew before interception."

That was all.

But in the estate, "all" was rarely ever simple.
