Chapter 44 - Chapter-43 : Testing The Map: First Parmanent Trap

The gym was buzzing—not with laughter this time, but with tense anticipation. Chalk lines sprawled across the floor like a spider's web, sticky notes marked weak points, and the faint hum of the cube filled the air like a heartbeat. This was it: the first attempt at a permanent trap.

Sarah held the cube tightly. "Positions, everyone. Jonah, Mira—you'll guide the energy flows. Felix and Kai—physical barriers. Lara… keep chaos at maximum capacity."

Lara immediately spun her chair, dramatically pointing at the gym. "Step one: heroic chaos deployment! Step two: comedic coordination! Step three: snacks… later, obviously!"

Felix groaned, dragging a broomstick. "Step four: why do I still live?"

Jonah's glow flared nervously. "I… I think I can stabilize the flows enough to trigger the trap. Just… don't panic if it twists unpredictably."

Mira synced with him. "I've got your back. Let's channel this precisely."

Kai motioned toward chalk lines. "Every scout path, every pulse—we predict it, funnel it, trap it. Timing is everything."

Emily whispered, "So chaos plus strategy equals… hopefully success?"

Chloe nodded. "Exactly. And Lara's chaos is key—her random movements might reveal blind spots or trigger hidden weaknesses."

Lara spun dramatically. "Step four: accidental genius at work! Step five: comedic heroics! Step six: snacks… eventually, obviously!"

The first wave of shadow scouts appeared, darting down the hallways. Jonah's glow pulsed as he directed them, Mira's energy frozen them in place temporarily.

Lara flailed, chair spinning wildly. "Step seven: distraction! Step eight: comedic interference! Step nine: snacks… later, obviously!"

Felix swung his broomstick, accidentally knocking one scout into a trap. "I… I did that?"

Sarah nodded. "Yes, Felix. Accidental heroics count."

The cube pulsed, energy radiating outward. Scouts twisted, hesitated, and funneled perfectly into the trap zones. But suddenly, one scout broke pattern, darting toward the team.

Jonah's glow faltered. "No! Too fast! I… I can't—"

Mira's energy surged. "Focus, Jonah! We can stabilize it!"

Jonah clenched his fists. Glow flaring, he pushed the scout into the trap just in time. The cube pulsed, solidifying barriers. The gym shook, but the trap held.

Sarah exhaled. "First permanent trap… activated. We've succeeded—but only just. The creature will adapt. We must stay ready."

Lara collapsed dramatically onto a chair. "Step ten: epic victory! Step eleven: comedic survival! Step twelve: snacks… now?"

Felix muttered, "Step thirteen: sanity… optional, still."

I looked at the team and Jonah. Chaos, courage, accidental brilliance, and synchronized energy had combined to create something unstoppable… at least for now.

Noorwood High wasn't ready for the next wave.
