Chapter 37 - Chapter-36 : The Shadow Scout Strikes Back

Noorwood High had changed again. The hallways weren't just twisted—they seemed alive, breathing with malevolent intent. Shadows writhed along the walls, flickering unnaturally as if waiting for a signal.

Sarah held the cube tightly. "Everyone, positions! The faceless creature has learned from our last strike. The scouts will be faster, smarter, and more coordinated. Jonah, stay close to Mira and focus."

Jonah's eyes glowed faintly. "I… I'll try. I think I can sense them coming…"

Lara immediately spun her chair, arms flailing. "Step one: chaotic readiness! Step two: comedic coordination! Step three: snacks… only after epic survival!"

Felix groaned, dragging his broomstick behind him. "Step four: my life is officially a horror sitcom."

Mira's glow pulsed, synchronized with Jonah's energy. "They're coming… and they're predicting some of our moves. I can redirect part of the first wave, but timing is critical. Any mistake could be catastrophic."

Emily whispered, "So… basically, it's like juggling chainsaws while blindfolded?"

Chloe nodded. "Pretty much. And the chainsaws are alive."

Lara twirled, chair pointed skyward. "Step four: chaotic juggle of doom! Step five: comedic heroics! Step six: snacks… later, obviously!"

The first wave of shadow scouts lunged down the hallway. Jonah's glow flared as he pointed, directing them into positions. Mira's energy froze them momentarily while Sarah pulsed the cube to push others into traps.

Kai barked orders. "Adjust! Timing now! Don't hesitate!"

Even with Jonah guiding us, the shadows were smarter—some tried to bypass traps entirely. Felix swung his broomstick wildly, shouting, "I'M HELPING!"

Lara darted forward, yelling jokes at the shadows. "Why did the ghost bring a ladder? To reach the high spirits! Ha!"

The cube pulsed again, energy radiating outward. Shadows twisted, hesitated, and some fell into traps, but a few scouts broke through, adapting to Jonah's guidance.

Mira glared at Jonah. "Don't panic! Focus! You can anticipate the next moves—use your connection!"

Jonah gritted his teeth. "I… I'm trying!"

I ran alongside, memorizing shadow patterns and adjusting positions. The faceless creature's scouts were relentless, moving unpredictably, testing our coordination.

Sarah shouted, "We've done it before—we can do it again! Trust Jonah and each other!"

Jonah's glow flared brightly, pushing a swarm of scouts into the trap zone perfectly. The remaining scouts recoiled, regrouping.

Lara spun dramatically, chair held high. "Step seven: chaotic victory! Step eight: comedic triumph! Step nine: snacks… eventually!"

Felix muttered, "Step ten: surviving this counts as a miracle."

Mira's glow dimmed slightly. "We've survived the first wave—but the faceless creature will adapt again. Jonah's connection is powerful, but he's exhausted. We need to rest… and plan the next strike carefully."

Sarah clenched the cube. "This was only the beginning. The creature is learning faster than we are, but with Jonah and our combined chaos, we can still fight back."

I glanced at Jonah, seeing determination and terror mixed together. He was our wild card—but one misstep could turn him into the faceless creature's weapon.

And Noorwood High wasn't done testing us yet.
