Chapter 13 - 13

Chapter 13 Glacier Flood Encirclement

Currently, the 6th and 18th floors are unoccupied, while the other floors are occupied.

Yu Miaomiao lived on the 17th floor. Since there was no one on the 18th floor, she simply found an iron gate in her space and added another door in the corridor between the 16th and 17th floors.

Zhang Fengqiang and his wife, who live on the first floor, have a 13-year-old boy and are currently staying at Liu Mengmei's home on the seventh floor. Liu Pei and his wife, who live on the second floor, have a 5 or 6-year-old daughter and the child's grandmother. The family of four is currently setting up a tent on the ninth floor.

The third floor was also half flooded. A couple lived on the third floor; the man secretly broke the lock on the sixth-floor apartment, and the two moved in. The apartments in this complex were all delivered fully furnished, with all the basic fixtures included, such as a bathroom and kitchen, but no furniture.

While eating, Yu Miaomiao kept an eye on the updates in the owners' group. The group was still cursing the property management company for being useless. Yu Miaomiao scoffed. Right now, only two floors were flooded. Once the floodwaters burst, they would instantly submerge more than eight floors. The property management company couldn't solve the problem now, and they would be even less able to solve it after the flood came.

The property management has completely abandoned its operations, and Cai Yunxia hasn't responded to a single word. However, through the window, one can see lights on inside the building, and it's unclear which unlucky person is trapped inside.

The outside world was a vast expanse of water, and even if people tried to escape, there was nowhere to go. People could only wait at home for rescue that seemed endless.

[Is anyone interested in finding some supplies?]

Amidst the chorus of curses, a message caught Yu Miaomiao's attention; it was from a resident on the second floor.

There are still more than 6 hours before the flood hits, and the rain is quite heavy, making it difficult to go out and collect supplies. But if we don't go now, we'll never be able to go later.

Yu Miaomiao and her group had ample supplies and didn't necessarily need to search for resources. However, they couldn't completely avoid being seen, as doing so for too long would make them seem suspicious. After discussing it with Lu An, they decided to remain on the sidelines for the time being.

"The water is up to the third floor, we can't get out even if we want to!" Some people began to respond to the suggestion of the residents on the second floor.

"Don't worry about that. I have an inflatable boat that should be usable. Those who are willing to come, please meet at the entrance of the fourth floor in one hour."

After that message, no one replied, perhaps they were all busy with their own preparations.

Turn on the TV news, and all the major channels are urging people not to risk going out and to wait at home for government assistance, etc.

She remembered that after the floods subsided in her previous life, relief supplies were distributed, including some processed, waterlogged rice and some canned food. They were hard to eat, but they were enough to fill her stomach.

"Let's seal off the elevator after we finish eating," Yu Miaomiao said thoughtfully, biting her chopsticks, feeling that the sooner the better. Lu An had no objections; she always trusted Yu Miaomiao's judgment.

After quickly clearing away the dishes, the two got to work. Yu Miaomiao laid a waterproof sheet on the ground, took out cement and bricks from her spatial storage, poured the cement directly onto the sheet, made a small indentation in the middle, poured water into it, and mixed it into cement mortar. She then coated the bricks with cement and stacked them one by one at the elevator entrance.

Fortunately, the workload wasn't too heavy. Although the two of them weren't very skilled, they managed to finish it in a little over two hours. They then sealed the walls with cement, cleaned up the waterproof tarpaulin and some trash on the ground, and put them into a row of trash cans that had been set up in the space beforehand, to be disposed of when they had the chance to go out later.

Back in their room, the two of them had nothing to do, so they went to the treadmill on the balcony to run and watch TV. The three little ones still looked like they were freezing, so they huddled next to the electric heater to keep warm.

After running for a while, Lu An saw a black dot floating in their direction with the current outside the window. He pointed it out to Yu Miaomiao, indicating that the people who went to find supplies had returned.

However, they found that only Liu Pei and his wife were on the inflatable boat, indicating that no one in the building was willing to risk going out.

The two men, dressed in black windbreakers, looked very capable and efficient. They had their own tent and inflatable boat, so they must be people who love outdoor activities. One of them was driving the boat while the other was observing the terrain and stabilizing the supplies wrapped in black tarpaulin behind them.

The inflatable boat quickly arrived downstairs. The couple worked together: Liu Pei picked up He Xin and helped her climb into the building through the third-floor window. Then, they tied the supplies with ropes and pulled them in. Liu Pei tied the inflatable boat with a rope, jumped and flipped into the window, deflated the boat, and dragged it into the building as well.

Seeing their calm and composed demeanor, Yu Miaomiao mentally gave them a thumbs up.

Perhaps only people like her can go further in the apocalypse. Ordinary people like her in the previous life could only survive for three years by sheer luck. Most people are just ordinary denominators, dying in some unknown corner.

The two of them were slightly sweaty from the run, and then took a nice hot shower.

Yu Miaomiao lay comfortably on the sofa. Lu An cut a few slices of orange, peeled them thoughtfully, and served them over with a fruit fork shaped like rabbit ears. Yu Miaomiao felt that since living with Lu An, she had become a complete good-for-nothing, enjoying the carefree life of being waited on hand and foot.

The oranges were gone in a few bites. Perhaps because the exercise had been so physically demanding, the two of them felt hungrier and hungrier as they ate. Lu An hurriedly went into the kitchen to make two bowls of beef noodles. The broth was a beef bone soup base that had been simmered over a high flame in advance. The beef was tender and flavorful, coated in the beef bone soup base. With a spoonful of chili oil, the spiciness and aroma filled the mouth.

What a happy life! This isn't the end of the world, this is paradise.

The rain grew heavier and heavier, as if a huge hole had been ripped open in the sky, and the rain poured down from above.

Yu Miaomiao knew that Ningcheng would become a vast glacial ocean tonight, and many lives would be drowned in the flood, but she could do nothing but tell Lu An.

These apocalyptic pronouncements wouldn't be believed by anyone even if she said them. She didn't intend to be a savior; she just wanted to live her own peaceful life.

As night fell, the city was plunged into darkness—a power outage! The entire city was without power; no, perhaps it was a global blackout.

On November 13, 2032, night swallowed all light, plunging human society into boundless darkness. On this day, the end times truly began.

The sound of children crying could be heard from the neighborhood, and someone was shouting from somewhere... but the sound was quickly interrupted by a loud noise.

A powerful cyclone swept directly into the city, and rivers mixed with glacial snow surged in from all directions. In an instant, the once peaceful city vanished. The floodwaters violently pounded the windows of low-rise houses, shattering them like pieces of paper. Water rushed into the houses, drowning the people who were desperately calling for help.

The temperature also dropped sharply, and Yu Miaomiao watched as the pointer on the indoor thermometer kept falling to the lower limit of the temperature range.

Yu Miaomiao and Lu An stood in the living room, able to feel the vibrations caused by the force of the water. They held each other's hands, encouraging one another.

Some survivors poked their heads out of the water and instinctively clung desperately to anything they could get a foothold on, their fingertips bleeding, before finally managing to climb onto floating objects like doors or plastic sheets.

Just as I caught my breath, a shadow loomed overhead.

The large riverboats moored in the harbor were all washed ashore, mercilessly crushing the last glimmer of hope for the survivors.

Wherever it passed, it stirred up huge waves and left behind corpses and remains.

Screams and cries for help quickly faded into the sound of the waves, leaving only darkness and despair in the air.
