Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Girl Who Felt Too Much

Morning light filtered through layers of sheer curtains, casting a soft glow across a room that seemed untouched by imperfection. White marble floors reflected the golden sunlight, and the silence inside the penthouse was almost unnatural—controlled, composed, just like its owner.

Elena Rothschild stood before a mirror, her expression calm as ever, yet her fingers paused slightly while adjusting the clasp of her necklace.

Her heartbeat was steady now.

But not normal.

Last night… something had disturbed it.

Her reflection stared back at her—flawless, elegant, distant. The same person the world admired. The same person no one truly knew.

"…It was just a coincidence," she whispered to herself, though the words lacked conviction.

Her mind replayed the moment again—the instant she saw him on the screen.

Kael Draven.

That strange feeling… like standing at the edge of something dangerous.

Or being pulled toward it.

Elena closed her eyes briefly, inhaling slowly, regaining control over her thoughts. She didn't like things she couldn't understand. She didn't trust them.

And she certainly didn't trust him.

---

Across the city, inside a towering estate that had suddenly become the center of global attention, Kael stood alone in a vast room overlooking the skyline.

The world was moving exactly as he had predicted.

News channels, social media, investors—everyone was talking about him. His "return" had shaken the balance of power, and already, invitations from the most elite figures were pouring in.

Humans were simple.

Predictable.

Easy.

Kael's gaze shifted slightly, his crimson eyes reflecting the city below. "Status secured," he murmured under his breath.

But his thoughts weren't on power.

They were elsewhere.

"…Elena Rothschild."

Her name lingered.

Not because she was his target.

But because of what he had felt.

That brief moment last night—when something had noticed him back.

That had never happened before.

Not in centuries.

A faint smile touched his lips.

"Interesting."

---

Later that evening, the grand hall of the most luxurious hotel in the city glittered under golden chandeliers. The air buzzed with quiet conversations, laughter, and the subtle tension of power hidden beneath polite smiles.

The world's elite had gathered.

Business tycoons. Politicians. Influencers.

All waiting.

Because tonight—

The newly revealed heir would attend his first public event.

And so would she.

Elena stepped inside the hall, her presence alone enough to shift attention. Dressed in a silver gown that shimmered with every step, she carried herself with effortless grace. Conversations faltered, eyes turned, and admiration followed her like a shadow.

But she didn't notice.

Or perhaps she simply didn't care.

Her gaze moved calmly across the room… observing, analyzing.

Until—

She saw him.

Standing near the center of the hall, surrounded yet untouched, Kael looked exactly as he had on the screen—but somehow more dangerous in person. More real.

More… overwhelming.

For a split second—

Her heartbeat skipped.

Again.

Elena's eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly.

"…So it wasn't a coincidence."

---

Kael felt it the moment she entered.

That same presence.

That same strange pull.

His head turned slowly, his gaze locking onto her instantly, as if guided by something deeper than sight.

And for the first time in centuries—

He paused.

She was beautiful.

But that wasn't what caught his attention.

It was her presence.

Clear. Untainted. Almost… radiant.

Completely different from the corrupted, fragile beings around her.

Their eyes met across the hall.

Silence seemed to fall between them, despite the noise around.

Kael stepped forward.

Not rushed. Not hesitant.

Certain.

Every step closed the distance between them, drawing invisible lines of tension through the room. Conversations dimmed subconsciously as people sensed something shifting.

Elena didn't move.

She watched him approach, her expression calm—but her instincts were screaming.

Danger.

Unknown.

And yet… she didn't look away.

He stopped in front of her.

Close enough.

Too close.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Kael smiled slightly, his voice smooth, controlled.

"Miss Rothschild."

Elena's gaze remained steady. "Mr. Hale."

A pause.

Polite.

Distant.

Sharp.

Kael tilted his head slightly, studying her. "I've heard a lot about you."

"Only good things, I assume," she replied calmly.

"Only interesting things."

Something in his tone made her chest tighten.

Elena held his gaze, unflinching. "And you?" she said quietly. "You appeared out of nowhere and suddenly became the most talked-about man in the world."

Her voice softened slightly.

"But something about you doesn't add up."

The air between them shifted.

Kael's smile didn't fade.

"If everything made sense," he said, his voice lowering just enough for only her to hear, "life would be boring."

Elena's eyes narrowed.

There it was again.

That feeling.

Stronger now.

Her hand unconsciously clenched slightly at her side.

"…What are you?" she asked, almost inaudibly.

For the first time—

Kael went silent.

Not because he didn't have an answer.

But because of the way she asked.

Not as a guess.

Not as curiosity.

But as if she could feel it.

Something dangerous flickered behind his crimson eyes.

And then—

He leaned closer.

Close enough for his voice to brush against her ear.

"Someone you shouldn't get close to."

Elena's breath hitched—just slightly.

But she didn't step back.

Instead, she whispered, "Then why does it feel like I already am?"

---

For the first time in centuries—

Kael felt something unfamiliar stir within him.

Not control.

Not dominance.

Something… uncertain.

And he didn't like it.

---

Across the hall, a pair of eyes watched them carefully from the shadows.

Cold.

Calculating.

"…So it begins," the man murmured under his breath.

---

Back between them, the distance remained dangerously small.

Kael straightened slightly, his gaze still locked onto Elena.

"This won't be our last conversation," he said calmly.

Elena met his eyes without hesitation. "I didn't expect it to be."

A faint smile touched her lips.

But it wasn't soft.

It was challenging.

---

As Kael turned away, disappearing back into the crowd, Elena's hand slowly moved to her chest again.

Her heartbeat…

Was faster.

But not from fear.

And for the first time since her past was shattered—

She didn't push the feeling away.

---

Behind her calm expression, a single thought formed—

This man will change everything.
