Chapter 2 - Heavenbreaker: Rise of the Silent Sovereign

Chapter 2: The Girl in the Abyss

 "…Pathetic."

The voice echoed through the darkness.

It was neither loud nor soft, yet it carried an ancient weight—like time itself had spoken.

Lin Xuan's fading consciousness trembled.

For a brief moment, he wondered if this was death.

If so… it was colder than he imagined.

"…Yet you did not curse the heavens."

The voice continued, closer now.

"…Interesting."

A faint light flickered in the abyss.

No—not light.

Something darker.

Something that swallowed even the shadows around it.

Lin Xuan forced his eyes open.

Before him stood an ancient altar, covered in cracks and dust, as if it had been forgotten for thousands of years.

At its center—

A coffin.

Bound in chains.

Carved with symbols he could not understand.

But two words stood out, etched deeply into its surface:

Heavenbreaker.

His heart trembled.

Not in fear.

But recognition.

As if something inside him… responded.

"You hear it, don't you?"

A soft voice broke the silence.

Lin Xuan froze.

This voice—

It was different.

Not ancient.

Not cold.

But human.

He turned his head slightly.

And saw her.

A girl stood a few steps away, her figure half-hidden in the darkness.

Black robes flowed gently around her, untouched by dust or time.

Her eyes were clear… yet distant, like a still lake under moonlight.

For a moment, Lin Xuan forgot to breathe.

Not because she was simply beautiful—

But because she felt… real.

In a place that felt anything but.

"You're… alive?" he asked, his voice hoarse.

The girl tilted her head slightly.

"That depends," she replied calmly. "Are you?"

Lin Xuan fell silent.

He didn't know how to answer that.

"My name is Su Yao," she said after a pause.

"Lin Xuan."

The words left his lips almost instinctively.

For the first time in a long while…

Someone had asked for his name.

Su Yao stepped closer to the coffin.

Her gaze lingered on the chains.

"They sealed it well," she murmured.

"Sealed… what?" Lin Xuan asked.

She didn't look at him.

"Something the world was afraid of."

A faint smile touched her lips.

"Something they couldn't control."

Her words were calm.

But something beneath them… wasn't.

Lin Xuan tried to sit up.

Pain shot through his body instantly.

He collapsed back down, breath uneven.

Su Yao glanced at him.

"You should rest," she said.

"Your body is barely holding together."

Lin Xuan let out a quiet breath.

"Why are you helping me?"

It was a simple question.

But for him… it carried weight.

People didn't help him.

They ignored him.

Or laughed at him.

That was all.

Su Yao was silent for a moment.

Then she said softly:

"Because you didn't scream."

Lin Xuan blinked.

"When you fell," she continued, "most people would beg… curse… or cry."

Her eyes met his.

"But you didn't."

There was something unreadable in her gaze.

"People like you…" she whispered, "don't break easily."

The coffin suddenly trembled.

A low, heavy sound echoed through the abyss.

The chains rattled.

Cracks spread across its surface.

Lin Xuan's chest tightened.

Something inside him—

Was calling to it.

Or… it was calling to him.

Su Yao's expression changed for the first time.

"Stay back," she said.

But Lin Xuan didn't move.

Not because he was fearless.

But because…

He couldn't.

His body moved on its own.

Step by step…

Toward the coffin.

"Lin Xuan!" Su Yao called out.

Her calm voice broke slightly.

But he didn't stop.

He raised his hand.

And touched the surface.

BOOM—!

The world shattered.

Dark-golden energy exploded outward.

The chains snapped instantly.

The coffin burst open—

And something ancient… awakened.

Pain flooded Lin Xuan's body.

His veins burned.

His vision turned black—

Then gold—

Then nothing.

In the chaos—

A voice roared inside his mind:

"You are not weak…

You were sealed."

Through the storm of energy, Lin Xuan felt something—

A hand.

Warm.

Holding his.

"Don't let it take you."

Su Yao's voice.

Closer than before.

Softer than before.

For the first time—

Not distant.

But urgent.

Lin Xuan's consciousness trembled.

The darkness tried to swallow him.

To erase him.

To turn him into something else.

Something… not human.

But that warmth—

Didn't disappear.

He held onto it.

Slowly…

His eyes opened.

Darkness faded.

Gold dimmed.

And silence returned.

Lin Xuan stood there, breathing heavily.

The abyss was still.

The coffin… gone.

Only fragments remained.

Su Yao was still holding his hand.

Her grip tightened slightly when she realized he was awake.

Then—

She let go.

Quickly.

As if nothing had happened.

"You're… alive," she said quietly.

Lin Xuan looked at her.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then he said softly:

"…You didn't let go."

Su Yao turned her face slightly.

"You would've died," she replied.

Her voice was calm again.

But her eyes—

Didn't meet his.

Lin Xuan didn't press further.

But something changed.

Something small.

Something quiet.

For the first time in his life—

When he looked at someone…

He didn't feel invisible.

Above them, the sky rumbled.

Far beyond the mountains—

Ancient beings opened their eyes.

"The Heavenbreaker… has awakened."

And in the depths of the abyss—

Two figures stood in silence.

Unaware…

That their fates had already become intertwined.
