Final Chapter – One Last Beginning
Three Years Later
Alys POV
Three years.
Three years since Sector Zero.
Three years since the System disappeared.
Three years since humanity finally saw the sunrise without wondering whether it would be the last.
The world hadn't forgotten.
Entire cities had been rebuilt.
Memorials stood where battlefields once existed.
Names of those who never returned were carved into white stone so they would never be forgotten.
Every year, survivors gathered there.
Every year, we promised to live enough for the people who couldn't.
Today...
Was different.
Today wasn't about loss.
Today...
Was graduation day.
"...Alys!"
I turned as Jay came running across the campus lawn, almost tripping over her graduation gown.
Some things never changed.
She threw her arms around me in a tight hug.
"We actually did it!"
"We did."
"We survived an apocalypse..."
"...and final exams."
I laughed.
"I still think exams were scarier."
Jay gasped dramatically.
"I KNEW YOU'D FINALLY AGREE!"
Behind us, Gorya walked over with her usual calm smile while Kenning balanced four cups of iced coffee.
"You two are already causing a scene."
Jay proudly nodded.
"As always."
Zien joined us a moment later, adjusting her graduation cap.
"I swear these things were designed to fall off."
Kenning handed everyone a drink.
"Happy graduation."
We all clinked our cups together.
"For the future."
"For the future."
For a moment...
None of us spoke.
We simply looked around.
Students laughed.
Families took photographs.
Children ran across the grass.
Music drifted through the warm afternoon air.
No alarms.
No monsters.
No countdown.
Just...
Peace.
It still felt unreal.
Jay suddenly pointed across the lawn.
"Oh!"
"They're here."
All of us turned.
Walking toward us were five familiar figures.
Drake.
Kiefer.
Thyme.
Kavin.
Ace.
They looked different now.
Older.
More relaxed.
The invisible weight they'd carried for years was finally gone.
Kiefer adjusted his tie.
Jay immediately burst into laughter.
"YOU WORE A TIE?"
"I was told it was appropriate."
"By who?"
"...Drake."
Everyone looked at Drake.
He didn't even try to deny it.
"It looked professional."
Jay whispered loudly,
"He's secretly seventy years old."
Drake looked completely unbothered.
"I'll survive."
"You always do."
For just a second...
Their eyes met.
Neither looked away.
Kenning elbowed Alys gently.
"...He's been staring at you since he arrived."
"I know."
"And?"
"I'm trying not to blush."
"You're failing."
"...I know."
Everyone laughed.
Nearby, proud parents and teachers applauded as the ceremony began.
One by one...
Names were called.
Students crossed the stage.
Years of hard work finally rewarded.
Then—
"...Alys."
The applause echoed around the campus.
I walked across the stage, accepted my diploma, and smiled for the camera.
Looking into the crowd...
I found Drake immediately.
He smiled.
Just a little.
But after everything we'd survived...
It meant the world.
Soon...
Jay's name was called.
She nearly hugged the principal before remembering she was on stage.
Laughter spread through the audience.
Even the principal laughed.
Some things never changed.
Gorya accepted her diploma gracefully.
Kenning bowed dramatically before taking hers.
Zien nearly dropped hers, making Ace quietly shake his head with an amused smile.
Finally...
The ceremony ended.
Graduation caps flew into the bright blue sky.
Cheers erupted everywhere.
Confetti floated through the warm breeze.
For the first time in years...
The future belonged entirely to us.
As everyone celebrated, Percy suddenly appeared carrying a microphone.
"Oh no..." Jay muttered.
"This can only end badly."
Percy grinned.
"It absolutely will."
He cleared his throat dramatically.
"Attention, graduates!"
Everyone looked over.
"I have been informed that today's schedule has one additional event."
Jay blinked.
"...What event?"
Percy smiled wider.
"A surprise."
Before anyone could ask another question...
The music changed.
A soft piano melody drifted across the campus.
Five young men stepped forward together.
Each holding a small velvet box.
The entire audience slowly realized what was happening.
Then came the gasps.
"Oh..."
"No way..."
"They're actually doing it..."
Jay looked from Kiefer...
To Drake...
Then back again.
"...Guys?"
Kiefer smiled nervously.
For perhaps the first time in his life.
He looked genuinely terrified.
Jay burst into laughter.
"YOU'RE NERVOUS!"
"...Yes."
"I've fought monsters."
"I know."
"I've survived explosions."
"I know."
"But somehow..."
He took a slow breath.
"This is scarier."
Jay's teasing smile softened into something warm.
"You'll be okay."
He nodded.
"I hope so."
Around them, the entire crowd fell silent.
The beginning of five new stories...
Was about to unfold.
