We strode away from the conservatory in a stony silence. The mere presence of the she-wolf by my side irritated me. I did not know what to think. Kael was not mine. Nor did I actually want him to be, yet the sound of Wren being with Kael infuriated me. She knew he was mine. I may not want him, but we had an arranged marriage. So, she knew she was overstepping her boundaries, and I think that was what had angered me most. The girl was breaking her rules...
Yet listening to her defend herself took me by surprise. She never spoke that way. Something had changed in her since our arrival here. Something I was not able to quite put my finger on. I knew that the girl was not quite who she believed, but this sudden increasing of her strength made me wonder if she should have stayed on our own pack.
