"Our heartfelt thanks to the five judges for those breathtaking opening exhibitions! And now, the main tournament officially begins! Let us welcome our very first finalist, Miss Rappa, to the stage!"
The live chat surged with immediate excitement:
"Rappa! I love her high-octane style!"
"Her aesthetic is so punchy and electrifying. I hope she goes all out tonight!"
"Rappa is so cool! Take the crown!"
"Step on me, Miss Rappa!"
"Get in line, weirdo. She's already my anime wife."
"Take your daydreaming back to Penacony, the broadcast just started!"
The arena lights dimmed into deep shadow.
Moments later, a heavy, driving electronic beat kicked in, accompanied by rapid, rhythmic rap vocals echoing through the background. Even with the lyrics slightly muffled beneath the bass, the raw pulse of the track grabbed the entire arena by the collar.
The projection materialized.
Rappa appeared in a stark white medical suit, fractured life-support tubes dangling from her arms and torso, unmistakably framing her as an escaped test subject.
She broke into a desperate sprint across a rapidly shifting corridor, pursued by looming mechanical silhouettes. Shadows closed in from all sides, forcing her to dodge and tumble beneath relentless barrages of energy fire.
A Shiftry dropped from the ceiling. As their eyes met, Rappa's torn garments transformed into a sleek, dark ninja garb.
Mirroring Shiftry's swift martial movements, she began returning fire, deflecting attacks with crisp counter-strikes. Her agility sharpened with every step, turning a desperate flight into a thrilling, fluid display of combat flow.
The clean narrative progression, set against the pounding soundtrack and satisfying wave-clearing choreography, was an absolute thrill to watch.
A Smeargle leaped into the fray next. With every sweeping flourish of its tail, vibrant splashes of neon paint sprayed across the environment, dyeing Rappa's dark attire in bold, radiant colors.
The once gloomy laboratory exploded into a kaleidoscope of brilliant graffiti.
The visual shift electrified the stadium, sending the crowd into roaring cheers.
The rhythm escalated as a massive, imposing enforcer blocked their path. Shiftry stepped forward, unleashing a wall of gale-force winds to hold the line, buying time for Rappa and Smeargle to break through.
Rappa glanced back with clear reluctance, but gritted her teeth and pushed forward.
Tearing through waves of pursuit drones alongside Smeargle, the towering enforcer caught up once more, lunging to pin them down. Just as the blow was about to land, a Blaziken crashed down from above with a blazing kick, shattering the machine into scrap.
Leading the charge, Blaziken escorted Rappa out of the collapsing facility and out under an open canopy of stars.
She was still running, still cutting down foes, but the dynamic had shifted completely. She was no longer fleeing in fear; she was actively hunting down villainy across the stars, pursuing a shadowy ape-like fiend.
In the grand finale, Rappa, Smeargle, and Combusken executed a synchronized triple-strike, obliterating the massive ape beast in a blinding flash of neon fire.
The stadium erupted.
Screams and wild applause shook the virtual rafters. The kinetic adrenaline built up by the music and visual combat boiled over, rivaling the response given to the judges' showcases.
"That was insane! My heart is still pounding!"
"It felt like watching an elite action game run! The hit feedback and graffiti splashes were so crisp!"
"If the very first contestant is this strong, the people waiting backstage must be sweating bullets."
"I thought drawing the first slot was a huge disadvantage, but after seeing that, everyone who follows has an impossible bar to clear!"
"Thank you, Miss Rappa, for a truly thrilling performance!" Owlbert called out, waving his wings. "Now, let us turn to our esteemed judging panel for their critiques and scores!"
Topaz was the first to speak.
"Your performance was exceptionally engaging, pulling the audience into your rhythm before they even realized it," Topaz said with an encouraging smile. "If I had to offer a critique, pushing your emotional release into slightly more dramatic extremes during the turning points would have elevated the narrative even further."
"Of course, you aren't a stage actor by trade, so it is hardly a major flaw. Our role as judges is simply to help every Trainer polish their presentation to perfection."
Topaz raised her scoring paddle: 95 points.
"A 95 right out of the gate! An incredible start!" Owlbert chimed in.
Himeko leaned toward her microphone. "If I'm not mistaken, the core of this routine drew heavily from your own personal past, didn't it?"
Rappa gave a firm, quiet nod.
"I won't pry into your history," Himeko continued gently, "but the spirit of resistance and the yearning for freedom came through with total clarity. To take it higher, giving the antagonistic forces a heavier, more suffocating presence would have made your eventual breakout hit with even greater weight. That said, channeling your personal resolve so completely into the stage makes this an outstanding piece."
Himeko displayed her score: 96 points.
Robin offered a bright, warm smile. "An incredibly creative concept. Using a continuous forward sprint to illustrate a personal life journey was brilliant, and the explosion of neon graffiti in the second half brought so much life to the stage. I loved it. Given the strength of your execution, I have very little to critique."
Robin raised her paddle: 98 points.
"A stellar 98 from Miss Robin!" Owlbert remarked. "It seems our panel is maintaining a measured standard for our opening act!"
Jing Yuan rested his chin on his hand, his eyes calm and perceptive. "A wonderfully spirited show. Your Pokémon executed their techniques with razor-sharp timing and great visual flair. It is obvious that every movement has been practiced thoroughly."
"However, your choreography relies heavily on instinct and practical combat habits, and your Pokémon have naturally picked up those exact tendencies from you."
"In a real life-or-death battle, that directness is the ideal approach," Jing Yuan noted with a gentle smile. "On a performance stage, however, a touch more aesthetic exaggeration is needed to highlight the artistry of the forms."
Jing Yuan raised his score: 90 points.
Though it was the lowest mark so far, the General's breakdown was so precise that both Rappa and the audience accepted it with total respect.
Finally, Julian spoke up.
"Your synergy with your partners is exceptional," Julian noted. "It is obvious how much sweat you've put into training together, and the Pokémon themselves were in top form."
"The only minor shortcoming is that your personal presence as a ninja took up so much of the spotlight that the unique charm and natural traits of your three partners were slightly overshadowed."
"Even so, both you and your Pokémon did a fantastic job. Keep building on this."
Julian raised his paddle: 89 points.
In truth, the performance warranted a 93 or 94, but as the first act of the night, Julian intentionally held back the baseline. Setting the ceiling too high early on would leave no room to properly separate superior performances later in the bracket.
"Rappa thanks the judges for their wise counsel! I shall engrave these words upon my heart!" Rappa bowed deeply, radiating sincere gratitude.
While the audience grumbled lightheartedly about Julian's strict grading curve, the clear division of labor among the panel earned wide praise:
Topaz evaluated the Trainer's personal stage presence.
Himeko analyzed narrative structure and thematic depth.
Robin focused on artistic flair, musical rhythm, and creative execution.
Jing Yuan broke down technical precision and combat choreography.
Julian kept his eyes locked onto the Pokémon's individual traits and overall synergy.
With the five scores calculated, Rappa's final average locked in at 93.6 points, setting a formidable benchmark for the rest of the Grand Celebration.
