Chapter 88 - Chapter 88: Helping Hand Heracross

"Bo-cha-bo-cha…"

The little Smoochum looked completely spent. The mental effort required to project a shared Remembrance had drained its psychic reserves, and with a weary sigh, it slumped forward and fell into a deep, restorative sleep.

"You want me to help you reclaim your home?" Guinaifen whispered, her voice soft with resolve.

The sight of the displaced Pokémon touched a nerve she usually kept hidden behind her cheerful performer's mask. For a moment, the lush Johto forest faded, and she was back in Camelot, watching the skies turn dark under the shadow of the Antimatter Legion. She knew the weight of losing everything—the silence of a home that was no longer yours.

But Guinaifen wasn't one to drown in self-pity. Her family had sacrificed everything so she could live, and they wouldn't want her to spend her days in bitterness. She chose optimism. She chose to move forward. And right now, moving forward meant helping this beetle find its strength.

"Heracross," Guinaifen said, kneeling down and extending her hand. "Let's fight back together. Don't just let me do it for you—let me help you become the one who takes it back."

Heracross looked at her outstretched hand, then into her eyes. It saw a reflection of its own struggle, but also a hope it hadn't dared to feel. Slowly, it placed its large, clawed hand into hers.

The chat was a waterfall of emotion:

"I'm not crying, you're crying! Guinaifen is literally giving Heracross the support she wished she had.""This is the most 'Main Character' moment I've ever seen in a stream.""Go Guinaifen! Kick that bear's butt!"Scouting the Enemy

"Alright, the first step is intelligence. We need to know the gap between us," Guinaifen instructed. "Heracross, you're still recovering. Rest here with the others. I'll scout the area."

As she turned to leave, a Sentret hopped out from the group, standing tall on its tail to look her in the eye. It mimicked Smoochum's earlier gesture, pointing toward the deeper woods.

"You know where the Ursaring is? Lead the way!"

Following the Sentret's frantic hopping, Guinaifen soon found the clearing. Through the thick brush, she spotted the intruder. The Ursaring was massive, its fur matted as it greedily gathered armfuls of berries to stash in a hollowed-out tree.

Guinaifen pulled out her Pokédex to scan the threat.

[Lv. 32 Ursaring]

"No wonder," Guinaifen muttered. Heracross was only Level 25. In the wild, where Pokémon fight on pure instinct and raw power, a seven-level gap is an insurmountable wall. Furthermore, Heracross had been trying to use Bug-type moves against a bulky Normal-type, which was far from efficient.

She retreated to the hiding spot and began formulating a plan. She left her Bayleef (Lv. 30) and Noctowl (Lv. 24) to guard the nursery. If the Ursaring wandered near, Bayleef was strong enough to hold the line until Noctowl could fly to fetch her.

The Training Arc

"Come with me, Heracross. It's time for a crash course."

Guinaifen took Heracross to the outskirts of the forest. She didn't just hunt wild Pokémon; she sought out other Trainers. She knew that the complexity of a directed battle provided far more experience than wild brawls.

As they fought, she analyzed Heracross's move set. Its Horn Attack and Fury Cutter were decent, but its proficiency with more technical moves was non-existent. Over the next few hours, they pushed through battle after battle.

Under Guinaifen's guidance, Heracross reached Level 30. It learned Counter and Brick Break—the perfect tools for dismantling a physical powerhouse like Ursaring.

"Your Aerial Ace is still a bit shaky, but your Counter timing is getting sharp," Guinaifen noted, checking the data on her phone. "And that Brick Break... even without high proficiency, the Fighting-type advantage will be the deciding factor."

Heracross let out a confident, resonant buzz. Its shell gleamed with a new vitality, and the fear that had clouded its eyes was replaced by a sharp, focused battle-spirit.

Guinaifen adjusted her ribbon and looked toward the center of the forest. "Alright, partner. Let's go take back what's yours."
