Chapter 86 - Chapter 86: The Feud with Rattata Continues

"Legendary Adventure Mode... after reading the details, it feels like Boss Julian is literally dropping us into the movie plots!"

"I can't believe it. Does this mean we finally get to be the ones befriending Lugia instead of just watching Ash do it?"

The chat was a blur of hype. While everyone had the chance to catch legendary birds in the first generation, the second generation promised something different: a cinematic, narrative-driven experience. Julian hadn't just made a game; he'd built a stage for players to become legends themselves.

"Hey everyone, don't rush me!" Guinaifen laughed, waving at her camera. "As much as I want to go find Ho-Oh right now, we have to respect the journey. A new region means new friends, new battles, and new memories."

She clicked the start button. The screen didn't fade to a black room this time. Instead, the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against a hull filled the speakers. Seagulls cried out overhead.

"Waaaah!"

A deep, sonorous ship's whistle echoed.

"We're starting on a ferry?" Guinaifen marveled. The salty sea breeze—simulated by the Luofu's advanced haptic tech—ruffled her hair. The ship docked at New Bark Town, but before she could step onto the pier, she was invited onto the back of a Lapras to reach the shoreline.

Players in the chat were already praising the attention to detail. "Look at the integration! He's using Gen 1 favorites to bridge the gap to Gen 2." This was the Arceus Studio way: high-budget immersion without the predatory pricing.

The Talkative Doctor

Guinaifen soon arrived at the Elm Research Institute. The story kicked off with a message from Professor Oak, suggesting that for Guinaifen to truly grow as a trainer, she needed to witness the unique ecosystems of the Johto Region.

"Guinaifen! You're finally here! I'm so sorry, I was so buried in these reports that I completely lost track of time!"

Professor Elm rushed toward her, his lab coat wrinkled and his eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep. Guinaifen smiled; she knew from the first generation that these "Key NPCs" had intelligence levels that rivaled real people.

"It's alright, Professor. You should really get some rest," she said kindly, hoping for some hidden quest rewards.

"Rest? How can I rest! We've discovered a new evolution for Eevee! Not one, but two! We've been up for forty-eight hours trying to figure out why. Is it the food? The friendship? The moonlight? We even started looking at their genetic parents..."

Elm was a chatterbox. He rambled on about data points and experimental variables until Guinaifen's head started to spin.

"Professor," she interrupted gently, "weren't we here for the starters?"

"Right! The starters! I almost forgot the most important part!"

He led her to a small enclosure. A Cyndaquil and a Totodile were wrestling playfully near a water trough, while a Chikorita stood far to the side, looking slightly offended by the Cyndaquil's flickering flames.

Guinaifen didn't hesitate. She had seen the anime—Chikorita was famously affectionate and loyal. "Please take care of me, Chikorita!"

"Chirp chirp!" The little leaf-creature skipped forward, tapping the Poké Ball in Guinaifen's hand and disappearing inside with a happy trill.

The Thief in the Grass

With her new partner, Guinaifen officially began her Johto journey. Despite her desire to take it slow, her viewers were screaming for progress. She cleared the first two gyms—Violet and Azalea—at breakneck speed.

By the time she reached the woods on the way to Goldenrod City, her team had grown. She had her Chikorita (now a sturdy Bayleef), a Hoothoot (evolved into Noctowl), a Marill, and the Togepi egg given to her by Elm's assistant. She also had an Eevee, though she hadn't figured out how to trigger the new evolutions Elm had mentioned.

"Wait... what's that?"

A rustling in the tall grass made Guinaifen pause. In this version, wild Pokémon were smarter. They didn't just jump out for battles; they ambushed trainers.

Earlier in the week, a Rattata had managed to unzip Guinaifen's backpack while she was distracted, stealing three Super Potions and a rare Berry. It had even chewed a hole in the fabric, causing her to lose items for miles before she noticed. She had spent two hours hunting every Raticate in that forest out of pure spite.

The chat loved it. The "Great Rattata War" had become a running meme in her community.

"Chirp!"

A purple head poked out from the bushes. The Rattata caught sight of Guinaifen's vengeful expression and immediately bolted.

"Oh, you think you're fast? Get back here, you little thief!" Guinaifen roared, her Competitive Spirit flaring. "Bayleef, after it!"

She crashed through a thicket of overgrown bushes, following the purple blur until the forest suddenly opened into a wide, sun-dappled clearing.

But the chase stopped instantly.

The Rattata hadn't been running away; it had been running to something. In the center of the clearing, a massive Heracross lay on the ground, its blue beetle-like armor cracked and scarred. A group of smaller Pokémon—Sentret and Hoppip—were surrounding it, nudging it with Berries and using soft leaves to cover its wounds.

As Guinaifen and Bayleef burst onto the scene, the smaller Pokémon scattered in terror. The injured Heracross, despite its pain, forced its wings to buzz. It struggled to its feet, bracing its heavy horn and staring intently at Guinaifen with a mixture of defiance and desperation.

It wasn't a battle. It was a last stand.
