As the high-altitude skirmish continued, Guinaifen's mind became a tactical supercomputer. She watched Charizard weave through the rock pillars and realized that distance was no longer her friend. Snorlax's special defense was an iron wall, but its physical bulk, while immense, was its relative soft spot.
"If I can't out-blast him, I'll have to out-muscle him," she resolved.
She scanned Charizard's move-set. Among the sea of fire and wind, there was one physical outlier she had insisted on training: Dragon Claw. She hadn't known why she picked it back then, but now, with the "Soul Link" humming, it felt like the only path to victory.
"Charizard, Seismic Toss!"
It was a repeat of the previous bait. Silver Wolf didn't hesitate. "Dig! Ground-submerge!"
"Now! Swords Dance!" Guinaifen screamed.
Instead of chasing the hole, Charizard hovered in place, its claws glowing with a sharp, red energy as it performed a ritualistic dance. Its physical attack power doubled in an instant. Silver Wolf's eyes widened; she had expected a Dragon Dance for speed, but Guinaifen was betting everything on raw power.
"He's vulnerable! Snorlax, Body Slam from below!"
The earth exploded. Snorlax didn't just crawl out; it launched itself like a 1,000-pound cannonball. The sheer force caught Charizard mid-air, slamming into its chest and sending it spiraling into the dirt in a cloud of debris.
"Charizard!" Guinaifen's heart hammered against her ribs.
The dragon-like Pokémon struggled up, its wings shredded and its breath heavy, but its eyes remained fixed on the mountain of fur in front of it. It wasn't over.
"Dragon Claw!"
"Snorlax, meet them with Ice Punch!"
The arena turned into a blur of silver and blue. Glowing talons clashed against a fist of solid frost, the sound of shattering ice ringing like bells across the stadium. Despite the doubled attack power, Charizard was struggling. The elemental disadvantage of a Dragon-type move against an Ice-imbued fist was a heavy toll.
"Ice Punch, now! Take Down!" Silver Wolf pressed the advantage.
Snorlax lunged, but Charizard—driven by Guinaifen's frantic intuition—flicked its tail into the ground. The reaction force popped it upward, narrowly avoiding the tackle.
"Dragon Tail!"
Charizard's tail, unpracticed but desperate, whipped around and slammed into Snorlax's side. It didn't do much damage, but it pushed the beast back, giving them one last second of breathing room.
The Shadows Above
High above the stadium dome, two figures watched the battle from a cloaked projection. Kafka leaned against the railing, a slender finger tapping her chin as she watched Silver Wolf—usually the most cynical of their group—beaming with a pure, unadulterated joy.
"I've never seen her play like this," Kafka whispered. "Is it really that entertaining?"
Beside her, Firefly (Sam) nodded slowly. For a girl who had spent her life as a weapon in an endless war, this world was a sanctuary. "In a universe of constant conflict, this game shows how beautiful the world could be. When the sky is dark, I play for a while... it makes the troubles feel smaller. I heard even Blade has started a secret save file."
"Oh?" Kafka's smile deepened. "The 'Unreachable Side' is a Level 100 Gym, then?"
The Final Collision
On the field, the music shifted. Julian Reed, swept up in the emotion, signaled the audio booth. The legendary anthem "Aim to be a Pokémon Master" began to swell, the driving beat syncing with the heartbeats of the trainers.
"Both sides, give it your all!" the crowd roared.
Guinaifen and Silver Wolf's figures seemed to overlap with their Pokémon. The boundary between human and partner was dissolving.
"Charizard! Fire Blast!"
Charizard didn't just breathe fire; it became a sun. It gathered every remaining scrap of energy, its body turning a brilliant, blinding white.
"Snorlax, Giga Impact!" Silver Wolf's voice hit a pitch of pure excitement.
The massive beast roared, a thick white shockwave of kinetic energy surrounding its body as it charged. It was a collision of a star and a meteor.
"BOOM!"
"Kirby!"
"WAAAAH!"
The explosion was blinding. The shockwave blew the hats off the front-row spectators and momentarily shorted out the nearest holographic projectors. When the light faded, only one figure was left standing.
Snorlax, its fur singed and its breathing shallow, stood over the fallen Charizard.
"The outcome is decided!" Owlbert's voice was hoarse. "The victors are Silver Wolf and Snorlax!"
The music reached its crescendo as the stadium erupted in a standing ovation for both sides. It was the most beautiful loss Guinaifen had ever experienced. But as the "Soul Link" snapped and the adrenaline left her body, the world began to tilt.
Guinaifen's eyes fluttered. "We... we did it, Charizard..."
Before she could finish her sentence, her vision went black, and she collapsed onto the stage.
