Chapter 26 - Our love story

I continued my studies, and Bolaji supported me in every way. He hired a nanny to care for our children while I attended lectures, and that made everything so much easier.

Life between us had become peaceful and full of love. Bolaji adored his children and treated us with so much care. I could gist with him freely without fear — he no longer got angry easily like before. He wasn't perfect, but he had truly become the best husband I could ever wish for.

During my final year, I got pregnant again, and we welcomed twin girls. Our joy knew no bounds.

After graduation, I went for my NYSC service year. When I completed it, I worked for some time as an intern under licensed pharmacists to gain experience and sharpen my skills.

Not long after, my husband surprised me with something I never imagined. He set up a very big pharmacy for me. I couldn't stop crying. To see my dream finally come true was overwhelming. I knew I would forever be grateful to him.

Our story — though rough at the beginning — had blossomed into something beautiful.

But as I reflect, I realize there are lessons to be learned.

Early marriage can be good if done the right way. Bolaji took the right first step by seeking my parents' approval instead of pushing me into fornication. But it became unfair when he tried to cage me from pursuing my dreams.

Sadly, this is the reality of many young women today — men who promise them heaven and earth, only to clip their wings after marriage. Not every story ends in reconciliation. Some end in divorce, leaving the woman as a single mother, mocked by society. Others stay in abusive marriages, pretending to be fine because they have nowhere to run to.

My advice to young ladies is this: even if your parents cannot afford to send you to school, at least learn a skill or a trade. Have something of your own and monetize it. Do not rush into marriage because of sweet promises without first setting a plan for yourself.

And to those who marry later but still face controlling husbands who forbid them from working — remember, life has changed. Opportunities abound. You can earn from the comfort of your home. Education is not a scam. And "my husband is rich" is not a title. Secure your own bag.

The End.
