"Oh, I see." Leticia nodded, and then she remembered what she had just slept on.
Her cute little face instantly flushed crimson. Sleeping with her head on another girl's thigh was simply too thrilling.
Even if the thigh's provider was Melanie, someone Leticia disliked intensely, this couldn't obscure the fact that it was a girl's thigh.
And, the touch was excellent.
"Are you shy?" Melanie reached out and touched Leticia's face, finding that the girl's face was a bit hot, which was undoubtedly a sign of shyness.
"What kind of joke are you making?" Leticia slapped Melanie's hand away, firmly stating that she wasn't shy.
This was just a normal phenomenon after waking up from a nap!
Although Leticia herself didn't believe what she was saying.
But there were only two people in the car; the driver obviously wouldn't contradict Leticia, and Melanie also knew that it was best not to go against Leticia in this situation.
Presumably, she had bluffed her way through.
For the rest of the journey, Leticia and Melanie chatted about various things; their usual bickering had become something Leticia felt completely normal about.
It wasn't until the car stopped in a parking space that Leticia realized she had arrived at the Hero Association headquarters.
While Leticia was still in a daze, Melanie got out of the car first and retrieved a foldable wheelchair from the car's trunk.
With the help of the driver in black, Melanie quickly assembled the wheelchair, then pushed it to Leticia's door and opened the car door for her.
"I'm not so weak that I can't even walk." Leticia felt this was a slight against her; she had recovered quite well now.
The weakness and powerlessness of the past few days had completely disappeared, leaving only a slight feeling of fatigue still bothering Leticia.
In her current state, she could walk perfectly fine on her own.
"I'm afraid you'll be like you were the day before yesterday." Melanie didn't explicitly say it, but everyone knew what she was referring to.
It was definitely about Leticia falling by the bed when she tried to turn off the light!
"I'm completely different from the me of the day before yesterday!" Leticia protested, claiming that she could now beat five versions of her day-before-yesterday self.
But Melanie stated that whether it was the current Leticia or the Leticia from the day before yesterday, in her eyes, both were Leticias who needed care.
"Let me help you, or sit in the wheelchair and let me push you, you choose one," Melanie presented Leticia with a choice.
If she had to choose between these two, Leticia would choose a third option: "I'll walk myself."
"Don't be silly." But Melanie told Leticia that she had no third option.
After seriously considering the power gap between them, Leticia thought it might be better to concede for now.
"Then the wheelchair it is."
The Hero Association seemed to be holding some event today; Leticia saw many ordinary people passing by their car, and judging by the excited and happy expressions on their faces, it shouldn't be anything bad.
Being helped to walk by Melanie in front of so many people would really be worse than being pushed in a wheelchair by her.
"Mm." Melanie reached out, wanting to help Leticia out of the car.
But Leticia, without giving face, directly jumped out. Not only did she jump out, but before sitting in the wheelchair, she even bounced twice in place, demonstrating that she was perfectly capable of independent movement.
As for Leticia's petulant behavior, Melanie found the girl a little cute. She smiled indifferently and pushed Leticia towards the Hero Association headquarters.
Halfway there, she told Leticia why there were so many people today.
"Every month, the Hero Association sets aside one day to hold an awards and promotion ceremony to reward heroes who performed exceptionally well last month. These people are all here to attend the ceremony."
"Oh, to show support?" Leticia indicated she understood, wasn't it just a bunch of shills?
"No, they are all prominent figures in Central City, and they come to the ceremony to find heroes to cooperate with." Melanie shook her head. "The commercial value of heroes is very high."
Especially those famous superheroes; the products they endorse sell exceptionally well.
And heroes with less fame can also provide some security for collaborators, giving these important figures some confidence when facing certain people.
"But aren't we here to watch the training?"
"Yes, so our destination is different from theirs," Melanie explained. "It just happens to be the day the ceremony is held."
Training happens every day, but the elders of the Hero Association had scheduled their meeting with Melanie for today, so it was just a coincidence.
Of course, the deeper meaning of this is debatable. After all, choosing today, neither too early nor too late, might imply some other intentions.
"We'll take the side door." As she spoke, Melanie had already pushed Leticia away from the main crowd and headed towards the other side of the giant building.
Today, the main entrance was reserved for those attending the ceremony. Melanie didn't have an invitation, and she didn't want to get involved in those matters, so she naturally planned to take the side door directly to the training ground.
But to Melanie's surprise, the door she intended to use was blocked by circles of reporters. Those carrying long and short lenses were gathered around this rarely used door, doing who knows what.
Upon noticing someone approaching, a young female reporter wearing a blue Baseball Cap jogged over, "Excuse me, are you two heroes from the Hero Association?"
Melanie nodded, then shook her head. "I used to be, she isn't."
After answering the young woman's question, she posed her own, "What are you all doing gathered here?"
"Don't you know? Miss Songstress is coming here today, and we figured she definitely wouldn't use the main entrance, so we waited here in advance."
"But, if retired heroes return to headquarters, they are more likely to use the sky entrance," Melanie said, pointing to the roof of the Headquarters Building, to the young woman. "Songstress, she can fly."
