Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Physician Lucy

"I... am I okay?"

Syl looked down at her black gloves; the madness of the ravings in her mind had vanished with the departure of the clown card.

Syl was now enjoying a long-lost peace—after being beeped at for a day and a half by the mental pollution-like ravings, anyone would find it unbearable.

Just as she was about to check what the affixes of this new character card were, Syl suddenly remembered something.

"Uwaa—"

Looking at the terrifyingly shaped corpse in front of her, Syl was so frightened that she took several steps back, a wave of nausea rising from the bottom of her heart.

Syl looked left and right, then looked up at the dark windows of the surrounding houses, wrapped her arms around her chest to keep her bodice tight, and walked quickly toward the alley entrance.

Time to slip away, time to slip away...

From falling from the sky yesterday and nearly dying, to forcibly using the clown card until now, Syl felt as if she were still in a dream.

Syl could only barely maintain the existence of her consciousness, watching helplessly as the clown, after absorbing Andaman's fear, followed him while constantly amplifying his inner fear.

Relying on the most instinctive fear in the human heart, the clown, in his zero-order state, slaughtered the low-order magician Andaman; Andaman died with almost no power to resist.

This ability is too bizarre.

This kind of supernatural ability that comes with every card is not at all something a zero-order person should have.

When alternating control of the body with the clown, Syl had also become completely familiar with how to use her body's skills.

When performing tricks outside the city, she mastered magic tricks; when throwing dinner knives, she became proficient in flying knife throwing; when Andaman revealed his fear, she learned how to lock onto fear, guide fear, and amplify fear.

Now that she had transformed into another character card, Syl felt that the feel for her tricks and throwing flying knives had not disappeared; it seemed she could still use them.

However, there was no way to use the fear absorption skill at all.

"Speaking of which, what does this card mean? I remember it being a blue card? But why is there no mental pollution?" Syl did not notice the strange gazes of passersby and walked down the street with her head down, lost in thought.

After summoning the system again to take a closer look at the new card's affixes, Syl understood a little.

Physician? It looks like a good person at first glance.

And the personality affix is "warm-hearted"; no wonder there isn't that kind of terrifying mental pollution.

It's just that I don't know what that mysterious specifically manifests as, or how the skills are actually used.

Flesh Stitching? Calamitous Fate?

The former sounds like healing, the latter might be for saving one's life?

And this card has a 50% constitution bonus; it's definitely high HP, full of a sense of security.

And then there's the system's hidden reward, that thing called Stardust Flying Blade.

However, Syl didn't plan to take it out now; after all, it was already dark, and she was on the street. If this thing glowed, it would be too conspicuous.

"System, the mission is complete now, can I go back?" Syl asked in her heart in a low voice.

"Of course you can go back, if you aren't afraid of there still being a mole ^ ^ "

"The Pope is being held up by a powerhouse and won't be back for another day..." Syl looked at the street littered with waste newspapers and the faint mist surrounding it, and sighed softly.

Does she have to stay in this ghost place for another day? She wasn't even familiar with this place at all.

Just when Syl was at a loss, a new mission appeared before her.

"Mission Triggered"

"Mission: Conspiracy Under the Gray Haze"

"Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆"

"Description: Although the noble's conspiracy did not succeed, the persecution of the Church of the Goddess of Hope has not stopped at all."

"You can try to investigate the organization behind the scenes, and the reasons for persecuting the church... Perhaps not knowing anything is more reassuring."

"Countdown: Three Months"

"Mission Reward: Draw Opportunity X1"

"Hidden Reward:??? "

Is the system asking her to investigate the hidden truth behind this? But she knew very little about this world, let alone investigating an organization related to the nobility.

The only clue she had was that the other party was a noble.

"System, if I don't do the mission, will there be any punishment?" Syl asked the system curiously in her heart.

"No, there won't be any punishment, it's just that you won't be able to trigger the next mission until this one ends."

Cannot trigger the next mission? Does that mean she can't draw cards for three months?

But the mission is two stars, it doesn't feel like it would be very difficult, right?

"Host, I must remind you that the difficulty rating is dynamic and is judged based on your current strength."

"If the previous mission were judged by your current strength, it would only be one star in difficulty."

One star? Is the mysterious physician that strong?

No, it should mean that the difficulty of the new mission has increased this much? That is to say, she will encounter more opponents who might be even more powerful than Andaman.

"Hmm... I will consider it." Anyway, there were still three months, so Syl was in no hurry to give an answer.

She could try to investigate, and just retreat quickly before encountering danger.

Moreover, after experiencing the last transformation, her compatibility with the clown card had reached 48%, and she felt she could better control this card.

Just as Syl was walking with her head down, deep in thought, she seemed to bump into someone.

Syl quickly stepped back two steps and looked forward: "Sorry, I didn't see anyone."

As soon as she finished speaking, Syl's pupils instantly contracted.

It was two Patrol Officers, one old and one young!

Although she hadn't committed any crimes in her identity as a physician, she had indeed killed someone in her identity as a clown.

Now seeing the Patrol Officers, she couldn't help but feel a little panicked.

"A woman?" The young police officer who was bumped into by Syl asked in confusion, while loosening the sword hanging at his waist, subconsciously adjusting his black double-breasted long coat.

"May I ask you to remove your mask, miss? I hope you can cooperate with our investigation." The older Patrol Officer behind him was clearly not as shy as the previous one; he still looked at Syl vigilantly, "Also, what is your name?"

"Okay, no problem..." To be honest, Syl was still a little apprehensive.

Just as she didn't know the true appearance of the clown at the beginning, she didn't know what kind of face was under the silver bird-beak mask now; even on the card, it was wearing a mask.

What if the words "mysterious" were reflected on her face? Wouldn't that scare people silly?

While thinking this, Syl slowly reached out and unfastened the buckle of the mask at the back of her head.

During this deliberately slowed process, even the young Patrol Officer in front of Syl realized something was wrong and silently placed his hand on his weapon again.

This time he was reaching for his pistol.

The atmosphere suddenly became tense; this bird-beak freak covered in black robes seemed to put a lot of psychological pressure on them.

Finally, the mask was removed, and long silver-gray hair cascaded down like a waterfall.

Syl also took a deep breath, thinking that it was finally time to breathe some fresh air, but after taking a breath, she frowned.

The air was filled with a faint strange smell, although it was very faint.

But it seemed that the people here were used to it.

"Mr. Patrol Officer, is there anything else?" Syl looked at the two people who were inexplicably dazed in front of her and asked in a low voice.

It seemed they also wanted to ask for her name?

Syl hardly hesitated and made one up on the spot.

"My name is Lucy."
