Aries's Pov:
School ended at exactly 4pm.
By 4:15 I was already at the gate waiting.
By 4:30 I was checking my phone.
By 4:45 I was calling Jay.
It rang.
And rang.
And rang.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailableโ"
I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at it.
Unavailable.๐ฐ
JAY's phone was UNAVAILABLE..๐ฑ
I called again immediately.
Same thing.
I called Cin.
"The number you have dialedโ"
I called Kiefer.
"The number you have dialedโ"
Something cold and sharp settled very quickly in my chest.
Jay had death threats. Real ones. ๐ฅ๐จ
From people who were not playing games.
And her phone was switched off and Cin wasn't answering and even KIEFER wasn't answering๐ ๐ก
I needed to calm down.
I was calm.
I was completely calm.
I called Jay again.
"The number you have dialed is currentlyโ"
I was not calm.
I stood there for exactly three seconds running through every possible option in my head and then I did the one thing I told myself I would never do unless absolutely necessary.
I called Percy.
It rang twice.
"Well well well." Percy's voice came through immediately warm and entirely too pleased with himself.
"If it isn't my favorite person in the entire world.
To what do I owe the pleasure Aries baby??" ๐
I closed my eyes briefly.
"Percyโ"
"Did you miss me??" He continued like I hadn't spoken.
"Because I missed you. I was literally just thinking about you today.
Isn't that funny?? Almost like the universeโ"
"PERCY." ๐ค
A pause.
"...Yes??" ๐
"Jay is not lifting my calls." I said.
"Her phone is switched off. Kiefer is not lifting.
Cin is not lifting.
She said she was going to the amusement park and I cannot reach anyone andโ"
"Aries." Percy's voice changed immediately.
Still calm but the teasing was completely gone.
"How long has her phone been off??"
"At least thirty minutes."
"Okay."
I could hear him already moving.
"I know someone who can track her location.
Give me two minutes."
"Percy---------
"Two minutes Aries baby."
The warmth was back in his voice but underneath it was something solid and reliable. "I've got you." ๐
I paced.
Checked my phone.
Called Jay again.
"The number you have dialedโ"
Paced some more.
My phone buzzed.
Percy: she's at Sunshine Amusement Park.
Section E is with her. She's fine.
I exhaled so hard my whole chest deflated.
Then immediately started walking.
"I'm going there." I typed back.
Percy's reply came in three seconds.
Percy: obviously. I'm coming too ๐
Percy: also you called me first ๐ฅฐ I'm touched Aries baby
Percy: does this mean you missed me??
Percy: Aries??
Percy: ARIES BABY ANSWER MEโ ๐ญ
I put my phone in my pocket and kept walking.
Fifteen minutes later Percy appeared beside me at the amusement park entrance completely out of breath but still somehow managing to look annoyingly put together. ๐ค
"You walked fast." He said. ๐ฎโ๐จ
"You didn't have to come."
"And miss seeing you panic??" He looked genuinely offended.
"Aries. I would never." ๐
"I was not panicking."
"You called me." He said simply.
"You never call me unless you are panicking."
I had absolutely nothing to say to that.
Percy smiled. That infuriating warm knowing smile that I had been putting up with for years. "Come on."
He said nodding towards the entrance. "Let's go find our baby sister." ๐
"She is going to be so dead when I find her."
I muttered walking forward.
"She really is." Percy agreed cheerfully falling into step beside me.
"Also Ariesโ"
"Don't."
"You called me FIRST before anyone elseโ" ๐
"I called Jay first."
"Before any of the OTHER peopleโ" ๐๐
"Percy I will leave you here." ๐ค
"No you won't." He said happily.
"You need me to find Jay."
He was unfortunately correct.
I said nothing and walked faster.
Percy kept smiling all the way through the entrance. ๐
Kiefer's Pov:
We had just come off the most aggressively terrifying ride in the entire amusement park ๐ข๐ต and somehow Jay was the only one who looked completely fine.
Everyone else was varying degrees of destroyed ๐ต๐ซ โ Felix holding his chest ๐ค Calix sitting on the ground for no reason ๐ Eman making sounds that didn't belong to any human language ๐ญ โ and Jay was just.
Laughing. ๐
That laugh. Bright and completely unguarded and so genuinely happy that I stood there like a complete idiot just watching her instead of recovering from the ride like a normal person. ๐ฅบ
Get it together Kiefer. ๐
Jay walked over to the nearest bench still smiling and sat down. ๐
Cin immediately plopped himself beside her like a lost puppy finding its owner. ๐ถ
"Jay." He said seriously. "I think I left my soul on that ride." ๐ญ
"You'll find it." Jay said patting his head. ๐
"I don't think I will." ๐
I was about to sit on Jay's other side when I heard it.
"JAY JAY." ๐ค
I turned around.
Two people were walking towards us through the crowd โ one with an expression that said he had been genuinely terrified and was now genuinely furious ๐ค and the other walking beside him with that easy unbothered smile like this was the most entertaining thing that had happened to him all year. ๐
Aries.
And Percy.
Jay looked up and her eyes went WIDE. ๐ฑ
"Ariesโ"
Aries reached her in four steps and grabbed her ear firmly. ๐ค๐
"WHY." He said his voice very tight. "Did you not tell me you were HERE. Your phone was OFF. ๐ต
I called you FIFTEEN TIMES. I called Kiefer. I called Cin. NOBODY picked up. Do you have ANY idea how scared I was??" ๐ค๐ค
Jay winced. "Aries I forgotโ"
"You FORGOTโ" ๐ค
"ARIES BABY." ๐
Percy appeared smoothly beside Aries placing one hand gently on his shoulder like he was handling a very stressed animal. ๐ค
"You are hurting our baby sister." ๐ He said nodding towards Jay whose ear was still very much being held.
Aries looked at Percy.
Percy smiled back pleasantly. ๐
Aries released Jay's ear with a final pointed look that said this conversation was ABSOLUTELY not over. ๐ค
Jay immediately rubbed her ear and looked at Percy through her eyes โ that specific look that said thank you and also please continue saving me. ๐
Percy winked at her. ๐
I stood slightly to the side watching all of this and feeling something in my chest that was complicated. ๐ค
Something warm. ๐ฅบ
And something slightly jealous right beside it. ๐ค
"If we are already here."
Percy announced to the entire group settling himself like he had been part of this plan from the beginning. "We might as well join you." ๐๐
Aries nodded firmly crossing his arms. ๐ค
Percy looked at Cin sitting beside Jay.
"Move." ๐
Cin stared at him. ๐
"Move aside from my baby sister." Percy said already stepping forward. "I'll sit beside her." ๐
"She is NOT your baby sisterโ" ๐ค
"Move." ๐
Cin moved. With GREAT offense and considerable muttering but he moved. ๐ญ๐
Percy sat beside Jay with enormous satisfaction. ๐๐
"Percy she is MY sister not yours."
Aries said immediately stepping forward grabbing Percy's shoulder and pulling him aside. "MY sister. MINE." ๐ค
He sat himself firmly between Percy and Jay. ๐ค
Percy moved aside with absolutely zero resistance and zero loss of dignity. ๐
Jay looked at the situation around her. ๐
Cin on one end. ๐ค
Percy beside Aries. ๐
Aries pressed right beside her. ๐ค
Section E members standing ALL around the bench. ๐
She looked at all of them.
Then at the bench.
Then back at all of them.
"Are you guys planning to sit on my lap too??" ๐
She said it flatly. Not laughing. Not joking. Just looking at the three of them โ Cin Percy Aries โ all squished on the bench beside her with zero personal space awareness whatsoever. ๐๐ค
Nobody laughed.
Because it wasn't a joke.
It was a warning. ๐
Something sharp and ugly rose up in my chest immediately. ๐ค
All of them. Sitting that close to her. Crowded around her like she was theirs to crowd around.
MY Jay. ๐ค๐ฅ
Mine. ๐ค
I looked away before I did something completely irrational.
"JAY THAT IS NOT FUNNYโ" Cin started anyway because Cin had absolutely no survival instincts. ๐ค
"It was a little funny." Percy said. ๐
"IT WAS NOTโ" ๐ค
"Cin." Percy looked at him pleasantly. ๐ "She wasn't laughing."
"I KNOW SHE WASN'T LAUGHING THAT IS WHY I SAIDโ" ๐ค
"YOU UNCIRCUMCISEDโ" ๐ค๐ Cin suddenly completely abandoned whatever point he was making and pointed aggressively at Percy instead.
The entire Section E went silent for exactly one second.
Then someone โ I think it was Blaster โ started laughing. ๐
Percy turned to look at Cin with complete calm and zero reaction. ๐
"Careful." He said pleasantly. "Shorty." ๐
"WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL MEโ" ๐ค๐ฅ
"Shorty." Percy repeated without even blinking. "As in short. As in you areโ" ๐
"I WILL END YOU PERCY I SWEAR ON EVERYTHINGโ" ๐ค๐
"Cin." Percy tilted his head with that infuriating smile. ๐ "You are literally proving my point right now." ๐๐
"I AM GOING TOโ" ๐ค
"ENOUGH." ๐ก
My voice came out quiet.
But everyone stopped. ๐ถ
I looked at the entire chaotic disaster in front of me. ๐
Cin pointing at Percy with shaking hands. ๐ค
Percy smiling like he had won something. ๐
Felix trying to insert himself into the argument for absolutely no reason. ๐
Calix holding Felix back. ๐ค
Eman eating something he had mysteriously acquired from somewhere. ๐
Blaster laughing so hard he was bent over. ๐
Eren filming everything on his phone because of course he was. ๐ฑ
Aries standing with arms crossed looking at everyone like they were all deeply disappointing. ๐ค
David standing quietly slightly apart watching everything with that quiet expression. ๐ฅบ
Yuri slightly apart from everyone his expression unreadable. ๐ถ
I took one breath.
"Are we going on more rides." ๐ข I said very quietly. "Or are we going home." ๐
Complete silence.
For exactly one second.
Then everyone shouted at exactly the same time. ๐
"RIDE!!" ๐ข โ Felix Calix Blaster Eren Eman Drew Aries David Yuri. ๐ค
"FOOD!!" ๐ โ Cin Jay Percy. ๐
Everyone stared at each other.
Complete silence for one more second.
Then everyone burst out laughing simultaneously. ๐๐๐
Even David smiled slightly. ๐ฅบ
Even Yuri's expression softened just barely. ๐ถ
And Jay โ
Jay was laughing. ๐๐ฅบ
That laugh again.
The real one. Bright and completely unguarded and so genuinely happy that everything else โ the jealousy the complicated feelings the weight of everything between us โ just quieted for one moment.
I looked at her.
"What do you want." I said simply.
She looked up at me still smiling with those eyes. ๐๐ฅบ
"Ice cream." ๐ฆ She said simply.
Of course.
Of COURSE she wanted ice cream. ๐
"Ice cream it is." I said. ๐
I looked at Yuri. Then Percy. Then Aries.
"Come." ๐
The four of us headed towards the ice cream stand and left the ongoing ride versus food debate absolutely RAGING behind us. ๐๐ฅ
I glanced back once.
Jay was laughing at something Cin had just said her whole face bright and completely unguarded and so completely herself. ๐๐ฅบ
I turned back around.
Mine. ๐ฅบ
I thought quietly. Completely and entirely mine.
And I smiled all the way to the ice cream stand. ๐ฆ๐๐ฅบ
Author's POV โ๏ธ
While Kiefer Aries Percy and Yuri went to get ice cream ๐ฆ the rest of Section E settled into their own comfortable chaos. ๐
Felix and Calix had resumed their earlier argument about absolutely nothing important. ๐ค
Blaster and Eren were challenging each other to something that nobody else understood. ๐
Eman was eating. ๐ Again. Still. Perpetually.
David was talking quietly to Drew. ๐ฅบ
Cin was telling Jay the most dramatic retelling of his experience on the ride for approximately the fourth time. ๐
Jay was listening. ๐
Or pretending to listen.
Because somewhere between Cin's third dramatic hand gesture and his description of how his soul had temporarily left his body ๐ญ Jay's eyes had drifted.
And landed on something across the park. ๐
A Snorlax mascot. ๐ข
Big. Round. Soft looking. Standing near the entrance of one of the nearby attractions with its arms slightly open in that classic Snorlax stance like it was just waiting for someone to hug it. ๐ฅบ
Jay looked at it.
The Snorlax looked back at her. ๐
Well. The man inside the Snorlax costume looked back at her. But details. ๐
Jay's eyes lit up. โจ๐
"โand I genuinely thought I was going to die Jay are you even listening to meโ" Cin was saying. ๐ญ
Jay was not listening to him. ๐
She was already standing up. ๐
"Jay??" Cin blinked. "Where are youโ"
Jay was already moving. ๐
Not walking.
Running. ๐โโ๏ธ๐จ
Full speed. Towards the Snorlax. Like nothing else in the entire amusement park existed. Like she had just seen the most important thing in her entire life and she was not going to waste another second. ๐๐ฅ
"JAYโ" Cin shot up immediately. ๐ฑ
Section E turned around.
And watched Jay Jay โ ๐ค โ run full speed across the amusement park and launch herself at a Snorlax mascot and hug it.
Like a koala. ๐จ
Tightly. Completely. With her whole entire body. ๐ข๐ฅบ
The Snorlax โ to his credit โ hugged her back.
Also tightly. ๐
The entire Section E stared. ๐ถ
"Is sheโ" Felix started.
"Yes." Calix said.
"Is that aโ"
"Yes." ๐
"Is she actuallyโ"
"YES." ๐
Everyone moved at once. ๐
Kiefer was walking back from the ice cream stand ๐ฆ with Aries Percy and Yuri โ four ice creams carefully balanced โ when he heard the commotion. ๐
He looked up.
And saw Jay.
Hugging a Snorlax. ๐ถ
Like a koala. ๐จ
He stopped walking. ๐ถ
Aries stopped beside him. ๐ถ
Percy stopped beside Aries. ๐ถ
Yuri stopped beside Percy. ๐ถ
The four of them stood there for exactly three seconds processing what they were seeing. ๐ถ
Then they all moved forward simultaneously. ๐ค
"JAY THERE IS A MAN INSIDE THAT THINGโ" Cin was already shouting waving his arms.
๐ค๐
"LEAVE HIM!! MOVE ASIDE!! THERE IS A HUMAN BEING IN THERE JAYโ"
"JAY JAY." Aries stepped forward his voice doing that thing it did when he was trying very hard to be calm and not quite succeeding. ๐ค
"There is a MAN inside that costume. What are you doing. Let it go. NOW."
"Baby sister." Percy appeared on the other side his voice warm and completely amused. ๐
"If you want I will buy you a giant Snorlax. How many ever you want. Any size. I'll buy you ten." ๐
Jay pulled back slightly from the Snorlax and looked at Percy.
With the most devastating puppy eyes anyone had ever seen in their entire lives. ๐ฅบ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
"No." ๐ญ She said quietly. Her voice was so small and so genuinely heartbroken that several members of Section E physically felt it in their chests. ๐ญ
"It's so cute." ๐ฅบ๐ฅฐ๐คฉ She whispered still looking at the Snorlax with those eyes.
Complete silence. ๐ถ
Then everyone's eyes moved.
Slowly. Simultaneously.
To Kiefer. ๐
Who was standing very still holding two ice creams ๐ฆ staring at the scene in front of him with an expression that nobody could quite read. ๐ถ
The whispers started immediately.
"He's dead." Blaster said quietly to Eren. ๐
"No one can save him." Eren whispered back already filming. ๐ฑ
"It was nice knowing him." Felix said solemnly to Calix. ๐
"Tragic." Calix agreed. ๐
"Should we do something??" Cin whispered to David. ๐
"What would we even do." David whispered back. ๐ฅบ
The Snorlax โ the man inside the Snorlax โ was still hugging Jay. ๐ถ
Still.
Tightly.
Like he was in absolutely no hurry to let go. ๐ถ
What theโ ๐ค
Kiefer stood very still and looked at the situation very carefully and thought about it very rationally.
Jay had run towards the Snorlax because it was a Snorlax. ๐ค(pic in comment section.)
That was fine. That was Jay. That was completely understandable.
Jay had hugged the Snorlax because it was round and soft and looked exactly like something Jay would hug. ๐ค
That was also fine. That was also very Jay.
But.
The MAN.
Inside the Snorlax costume. ๐ค
Who was hugging Jay back.
Tightly.
VERY tightly. ๐ค
Like he was ENJOYING it. ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Like he had absolutely no intention of letting go anytime soon. ๐ค
