Chapter 6 - the enemy of my enemy

CHAPTER 6: THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY

The cave was cold, smelling of damp earth and old gunpowder. Klaus, the German soldier, moved with a ghostly efficiency, handing out thick wool coats and tins of salted beef he had preserved for decades.

Klaus: (Staring into the small fire) You ask why I am here? I was a scout. I followed the violet lights into this valley, thinking it was a weapon for my country. Instead, I became its prisoner. I have tried to leave a thousand times. Every time I reach the edge of the jungle, I wake up back in this cave.

Aarav: (Shivering) You're saying... there is no escape?

Klaus: (His eyes turning cold) From the house? No. From the loop? Perhaps. But we are no longer alone.

The Arrival of the Red Star

Suddenly, the sound of heavy boots and Slavic shouting echoed from the cave entrance. Klaus jumped up, his face pale.

Klaus: (Whispering) Hide! Behind the crates! Now!

Three men stumbled into the light. They wore tattered Soviet uniforms, their red star insignias covered in mud and violet resin. They looked exhausted, their eyes wide with the same "Loop-Madness" Aarav had felt.

Soviet Captain: (In broken English, aiming a Mosin-Nagant rifle) German? How... how are you here? This jungle... it does not end! We have walked for days and the sun never moves!

Klaus: (Lowering his Luger slowly) Lower your steel, Comrade. The war ended eighty years ago for the world, but for us, it is still the same night. If we fight each other, the Collector eats us both.

The Soviets looked at each other, terrified. They agreed. To escape the "Danger Zone," the Nazi and the Soviets—the greatest enemies in history—had to shake hands.

The Weakness of the Entity

Klaus: (Calling Aarav and the others out from hiding) These are travelers. They have seen her face.

Soviet Captain: (Looking at their ammo) We have grenades. Heavy mortar rounds.

Klaus: Good. The Ghost—the Star-Parasite—has one weakness: Concentration. She is a creature of pure magnetic focus. If we hit her with enough fire and explosions at once, her "Loop" will shatter for exactly sixty seconds. That is our only window to run.

The Sin of the Soviets

The second day arose with a blood-orange sunrise that felt fake, like a painting. As they moved through the jungle toward the Bungalow, the Soviet soldiers spotted movement in the trees.

SFX:RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!

Before Klaus could stop them, the Soviets opened fire on a group of figures in the brush. They weren't monsters. They were Tribesmen—the ancient guardians of the valley, dressed in ritual feathers and bone jewelry.

Klaus: (Screaming) NO! STOP!

It was too late. The tribesmen lay dead in the dirt.

Klaus: (Falling to his knees) You fools... those were the Sentinels. They weren't attacking us. They were the "Living Seals" that kept the Ghost's hunger contained. They were the gods of this jungle.

The Awakening

The ground began to vibrate. The violet veins in the trees turned a deep, angry black.

Klaus: By killing the protectors, you have opened the cage. The Ghost is no longer just "watching." She is Freeing herself.

From the center of the Bungalow, a pillar of violet light shot into the sky. The "Ghost" was no longer a woman. She was becoming a Tower of Flesh and Metal, a mountain of teeth and wire that reached for the clouds.

Ghost Voice: (A roar that shook the earth) THE... SEAL... IS... BROKEN.
