Chapter 99 - Chapter 99: The Last Morning in Oryn

The dawn over Ash‑Crowned Oryn spread across the horizon in a bruise‑colored haze. Lilithra stood on her balcony, the Demon Realm wind tugging at her hair and the loose silk of her robes, the city stirring awake below her with its usual growl.

She felt the distance between herself and the city below, not as loss. As evidence.

A cold weight settled beside her, Aethyra had perched on the basalt railing, knees drawn up and void‑eyes fixed on the distant peaks. The crack on her shoulder was gone, as the void-skin had reclaimed itself at some point, seamless again, as if the damage had been a temporary opinion rather than a permanent fact.

And without looking away, the void-born reached out and placed a hand on the spade‑tip of the succubus' tail.

Lilithra didn't flinch this time, she simply felt the familiar jolt travel up her spine.

"Soft," Aethyra murmured.

Lilithra glanced at her and caught the faintest tilt at the corner of the void‑girl's lips; the emptiness inside her not quite as hollow as before. "You're getting bold," Lilithra said, a small smile touching her own face. "Keep learning like that and you might actually start making sense."

Yura stepped onto the balcony, her fox‑ears twitching as she took in the scene. Lilithra turned toward her, her expression settling into something more serious.

"I'm leaving soon, Yura," she said. "My time in this Realm is ending as there are things I must finish back in the Immortal Realm."

Yura's tail lowered, but her gaze remained steady. "I know, your qi has been different. But will you… allow me to wait for you?"

"I'm counting on it." Lilithra stepped closer, her aura narrowing until it wrapped around the fox‑kin alone. "I need an anchor here, eyes and ears I can trust. I plan to hunt the favored, and I can't do that without knowing everything that moves in the Demon Realm. Information is the only way to kill darlings of the world before they grow too strong."

Yura considered this, her brows knitting slightly. "Then you'll need a hub. In Oryn, and most demon cities, brothels are where secrets flow. Nobles, generals, soldiers… they talk when they're vulnerable and they tend to confess when they think no one is listening."

Lilithra's Succubus instincts moved before her reasoning did; a sharp, proprietary pull she recognized and did not apologize for. "You will oversee it," she said, her voice dropping into a low, commanding tone. "But you will not participate. I don't want anyone else touching you."

Color rose in Yura's cheeks. She bowed her head, a small private smile forming. "I can use illusions, Mistress. I can make them believe whatever they want without anyone laying a hand on me... I won't betray what we have."

Satisfied, Lilithra turned to Aethyra. "And you? What will you do when I'm gone?"

Aethyra rose from the railing, her form flickering like a glitch in reality, and looked at Lilithra with eyes deeper than the night. "Surprise," she said softly, offering nothing more.

Seven days.

She didn't track them by sleep — she had none — but by the number of times her technique broke down and rebuilt itself, while each night she returned to Yura, not for comfort, but because she had decided that Yura was worth returning to.

On the final morning, she stood once more on the balcony.

"I will never be humiliated again," she whispered. "I will never be prey again."

She stood at the edge one last time, the cold wind of the Demon Realm tugging at her hair and the loose folds of her new robes. The silk shifted between midnight blue and abyssal black depending on how the light touched it. Aethyra stood beside her, silent as ever, her form flickering faintly.

Lilithra adjusted the collar of her robe and exhaled slowly. Her aura settled around her in layered currents — seductive warmth beneath a cold edge, all sharpened by the predatory hum of the Envy Law. Even the rift seemed to recoil slightly, as if recognizing something that did not belong to any script.

A soft chime echoed in her mind.

The crimson notification dissolved into gold dust, as Lilithra closed her eyes and let her demonic form melt away — bones shifting, qi folding inward, horns receding, wings dissolving into smoke, tail curling into nothingness. When she opened her eyes again, she wore the shape she had been born with. Human. Delicate. Deceptively harmless.

Aethyra watched the transformation with unblinking curiosity. Lilithra brushed a stray lock of black hair behind her ear, the wind catching the rest and sending it streaming behind her like a banner.

"This is it," she murmured.

Aethyra tilted her head, as if listening to something only she could hear. "Go," she said.

Lilithra's aura collapsed inward violently, compressing until it burned. Space around her distorted, edges blurring, her silhouette flickering and unstable, as if the space around her was trying to hold what it could no longer contain.

Then she was gone.

[POV: Immortal Realm.]

Immortal Realm, Moon Clan — Earlier That Week

The Moon Clan was in chaos. Kaelith Moon, the sword prodigy from the Shattered Sky Serpent Academy, had arrived; everything the elders wanted, disciplined, powerful, and especially, pure. Lady Huo was already drafting the documents to name her official heir, sweeping Lilithra's name aside as if she had never existed.

Then the political earthquake struck.

A messenger clad in shimmering fire‑spun silk arrived at the clan gates, carrying a sealed scroll marked with a burning phoenix. The Elite Phoenix Clan — one of the few hidden clans that rarely acknowledged the outside world — had sent a marriage contract.

The hall fell silent as the scroll was read.

The proposer was Nyxaria Dawnblaze, the Young Clan Leader. She wasn't asking for an alliance, no, instead she was requesting marriage with Lilithra specifically.

The gossips erupted instantly. Two women. Two super‑clans. A political impossibility and yet it was happening.

"The Phoenix Clan?" an elder stammered. "They haven't made a move in a century. Why her? Why now?"

"We can't refuse," another whispered, sweat beading on his brow. "You don't say no to the Dawnblaze. Not without consequences."

Aurelia sat frozen, her mind racing. Mei, standing nearby, nearly dropped her ink brush, shock written plainly across her face.

Serion and Lysandra sat beneath the silverleaf trees, the chaos of the hall feeling distant, the leaves rustling softly overhead and carrying the faint scent of moon‑dew.

"What do we do?" Serion asked, rubbing a hand over his face. "The Serpent Academy is pushing Kaelith, and now the Phoenix Clan wants to claim her. We're caught between giants."

Lysandra looked up at the sky, her eyes reflecting a faraway understanding he couldn't reach. She thought of the Abyss thread she had sensed growing stronger in the distance.

"Nothing," she said quietly.

Serion frowned. "Nothing? We have to give them an answer."

"We will not choose for her again," Lysandra replied, her voice firm. "We tried that once, and we almost lost her. This time… Lilithra decides."
