Chapter 20 - Well, This Is Awkward

Once he was done with lunch, Jin bolted out of the cafeteria as fast as he could and hurried to the professor's office. Once he opened the door, Xavier was sitting there, staring at him like he had been waiting for him.

"Hello, Jin. Seems like you've had quite the eventful day."

"Like hell I had, Professor. Everyone's looking at me like I'm crazy."

"Well, you can tell them and I about Sukuna here."

"Shut up, Gojo. Not now."

"Then when?"

"I... I don't know. Just not now."

"Ahem."

Hearing his voice, Jin turned back to meet the professor, who had quite a peculiar look on his face.

"Okay, I am definitely not crazy, but it's not something I can tell you."

Professor Xavier held his gaze for a moment before nodding and looking away.

"Understood."

Jin was about to sigh in relief when a voice called out from behind him.

"I heard him."

Jumping up in shock, Jin turned around to see Jean sitting on a chair just beside them.

"Jesus Christ, Jean."

Jin stared at her for a moment, still trying to process the fact that she was sitting there completely awake. He had been so focused on Xavier that he hadn't even noticed her presence when he entered the room, and now that he had, he couldn't help staring at her in disbelief.

"How long have you been there?"

"And you're awake."

Jin's eyebrows rose as he looked her over, as if making sure she really was fine and wasn't somehow hallucinating.

"How are you awake?"

Pausing for a moment, Jin figured it out.

"She healed you."

The realization slowly spread across his face, and he shook his head as though the answer should have been obvious from the beginning.

"Of course she healed you."

Jin let out a small breath through his nose, looking almost annoyed at himself for not realizing it sooner.

"That stingy bird."

"Anyway, you can hear him?"

Jean nodded and spoke.

"Since I woke up, my telepathy has been several times stronger, and I can hear farther than before. This time, I can control it."

Jin looked at her speechlessly.

I guess having a cosmic being living in you was a cheat on its own.

"Hey, you've got two pretty strong beings living in you, right?"

Gojo chimed in.

"The both of us are pretty cool too."

From the look on Jean's face, she definitely heard that.

"There are two of them?"

"Well, yes."

Jin sighed, his shoulders dropping slightly as he realized there was no point hiding that anymore. He rubbed the back of his neck and glanced between Jean and Xavier, already wondering how much more complicated this conversation was about to become.

"But thankfully, the second one is more prideful and less chatty than Gojo."

Jean nodded in understanding.

Jin stared at her for a moment, unsure what exactly she had understood from that. He wasn't even sure whether she had accepted his explanation or simply decided not to question it any further.

"So Gojo is his name."

Jin blinked.

"That's what she took out of that?"

"What of the other one?"

Jin hesitated, his expression becoming slightly more cautious. He looked away for a moment, clearly debating whether giving Sukuna's name out was actually a good idea.

"Well, his name is..."

"Quiet down, kid. My name is not for handing out to little girls."

Sukuna called out for the first time in hours.

Jin's eyebrows rose slightly at the interruption. After being silent for so long, Sukuna had apparently decided that this was the perfect moment to make himself known.

That was definitely better than Gojo, who spoke every other minute.

Jin looked toward Jean again, and her expression immediately caught his attention. It shifted between surprise and something that suspiciously looked like embarrassment.

She's embarrassed from Sukuna's words?

"She might have been cold, but with her memories back, she won't be as cold anymore," Gojo said.

Jin frowned slightly, trying to figure out what exactly Gojo meant.

"Is that supposed to be a good thing?"

"Maybe."

"I don't know."

Jin stared ahead for a moment, his expression becoming increasingly confused. Whatever Gojo was trying to imply, Jin wasn't sure he wanted to know, and judging by how little sense the conversation was making, he decided it was probably better to move on before it got even stranger.

"Anyway, back to Jean."

Jin turned toward Xavier, shifting his attention back to the reason he had come to the office in the first place.

"Uh, Professor, I wanted to mention that I'll be leaving soon."

Jin paused briefly, almost as if he were trying to figure out the best way to explain it without making the situation sound more suspicious than it already did.

"Not permanently, but I'm moving to Queens."

"Hmm. What brought about this development?"

"Well, I need to see more of this world, and I won't be satisfied until I know what about this place is different from what I know."

Jin spread his hands slightly as he spoke, his expression showing that he knew the explanation wasn't exactly a normal one. He didn't have a better way of explaining it without revealing information he couldn't afford to share, so he settled for the closest thing to the truth.

"Hmm. Okay, but you'll have to rest for at least a week."

Jin's expression immediately soured.

"It's barely been a day since your fight. You're definitely exhausted."

Jin looked away for a moment, clearly dissatisfied with the answer. He knew Xavier wasn't wrong, but that didn't make the idea of sitting around for an entire week any more appealing.

"Well, I don't have a cosmic being healing me back up when I am beat up."

Jin gave Jean a pointed look as he said it, his expression carrying just enough sarcasm to make it obvious who he was referring to.

Jin turned toward the door, already done with the conversation.

"Anyway, see y'all later."

Back in my room, I made sure to lock my door well enough that any voices would be muffled before they left the room.

"Okay, System?"

[Yes, Host.]

"My status window."

Looking at the Sailor Moon template, all I could do was curse inwardly.

"Don't be so grumpy."

"You still have my abilities and Sukuna's abilities, and even his cursed tools. What more do you want?"

"From your memories, the actual threat is still five years away."

"No, no, no, no."

"If this were a normal universe, the threat would still be five years away, and that is a giant if."

"The fact that the X-Men are here is enough to prove that. I just met Tony Stark a few days ago, and if I've got the shitty luck I'm pretty sure I have, then no, this is not a safe Marvel universe."

"This is most likely one of 'em where reality gets destroyed every tuesday"

"But anyway, that's future me's problem, not mine."

"I need to sleep, so see you guys tomorrow."

"Yeah, yeah. Good night."

"Tsk. So noisy."

"And you too, Sukuna."
