Chapter 1: The Boy Who Hated Magic

In the floating city of Aetherion, magic was as common as air.

Children used glowing crystals instead of lamps. Teachers wrote on floating screens of light. Buses flew through the sky on rings of blue energy. Even the smallest pets could speak a few words if their owners trained them well.

But among all the children in the city, there was one boy who hated magic.

His name was Kai Orion.

Kai was sixteen years old, quiet, sharp-eyed, and strangely calm. While everyone around him loved showing off their power, Kai avoided attention. He wore the same black academy jacket every day, kept his hands in his pockets, and sat in the last row of every class.

To the students of Nova Arcane Academy, he looked completely average.

But he was not average.

Not even close.

Kai carried a secret older than the stars.

And he had sworn never to use it again.

Every morning, the bells of Aetherion rang across the silver towers, calling students to class. Kai walked through the academy gates with his usual bored expression, ignoring the magical duels happening on the training field.

"Did you hear?" said one student. "A new transfer student is coming today."

"From where?"

"From the lower world. Earth, I think."

Kai paused for half a second.

Then kept walking.

He didn't care.

Or at least, that's what he told himself.

Class 2-A was already noisy when Kai entered. His best friend, Rin Takeru, waved him over excitedly.

"Kai! You're late."

"I'm two minutes early."

"That's late in spirit," Rin said seriously.

Kai dropped into his seat by the window. "What do you want?"

Rin leaned closer. "The transfer student. Rumor says she broke a combat crystal with one finger."

"Maybe the crystal was cheap."

"You ruin everything."

Before Kai could answer, the classroom door opened.

Their teacher, Professor Lyra Vale, entered in her long silver coat, carrying a tablet of floating runes. Behind her stood a girl.

And for the first time in months, Kai looked up with real interest.

She had dark blue hair tied in a loose braid, sharp silver eyes, and a calm expression that somehow felt dangerous. She wore the academy uniform, but it looked too ordinary for someone like her. Around her wrist was a strange bracelet made of black metal and tiny glowing symbols.

The room fell silent.

Professor Lyra smiled. "Class, this is our new student. Please introduce yourself."

The girl stepped forward.

"My name is Luna Astra," she said. "I came here to learn… and to find something."

The class immediately buzzed.

"Find what?" someone whispered.

Luna's eyes moved across the room.

Then stopped on Kai.

Kai felt a strange chill.

Luna looked at him for two full seconds… then smiled.

"A person," she said.
