Chapter 1 - Unnamed

Chap:1

The Light in the Window

Every evening, just as the sun dipped below the horizon, a small yellow light would glow in the window of the old house at the end of the street.

No one really knew who lived there.

The house stood quiet and still, wrapped in climbing vines and silence. Children passing by would slow down, curious, sometimes whispering stories about ghosts or hidden treasures. But among them, there was one girl named Elara who never believed in those tales.

She believed in stories—but not the scary kind. She believed every light had a reason to shine.

One day, just before dusk, Elara gathered her courage and walked up to the old house. Her heart beat fast, but her steps were steady. She knocked softly on the wooden door.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then the door creaked open.

An old woman stood there, her silver hair glowing softly in the fading light. Her eyes were kind, though a little tired.

"Yes?" she asked gently.

"I see your light every evening," Elara said. "I just wanted to know… why do you keep it on?"

The old woman smiled, a slow and warm smile.

"Come in," she said.

Inside, the house was not scary at all. It was filled with books, soft blankets, and the faint scent of tea. The light Elara saw from outside came from a small lamp near the window.

"I used to have someone," the woman began quietly. "Every evening, he would come home just as the light turned on. It became our little signal… that no matter how dark the world felt, there would always be a light waiting."

Elara listened silently.

"He's gone now," the woman continued, "but I still keep the light on. Not for him anymore… but for anyone who might need it."

Elara looked at the glowing lamp, her eyes soft.

From that day on, whenever someone felt lonely or lost, they would notice the small yellow light at the end of the street.

And somehow, it made the darkness feel a little less heavy.

Because sometimes, love doesn't disappear.

It simply becomes a light… quietly shining for others.
