His eyelashes fluttered slightly, panic flashing across his face as his gaze lowered in embarrassment.
"U-Uh… sorry. I didn't mean to…" he muttered softly, his voice unsteady as he slowly lifted his gaze back to hers.
The moment their eyes met, her breath hitched.
Heat rushed to her cheeks as she quickly turned away, her heartbeat pounding wildly against her chest like it wanted to escape. She pushed herself to her feet too fast, desperate to flee before he could hear how violently her heart was shaking.
But then, his hand caught hers and her entire body froze.
Slowly, she turned back toward him.
The sight before her nearly stole the remaining air from her lungs.
His cheeks were faintly red, his jaw tight as he swallowed hard, nervousness flickering in those dark eyes that refused to let her go. And somehow, seeing him like that only made her heart race even faster.
