The car glided smoothly through the final stretch of road before the airport, the city slowly dissolving behind them like a fading memory. Towers of glass and steel gave way to wide-open runways and restricted lanes, where silence replaced the usual chaos of traffic.
Inside the backseat, Fiona remained composed, her suitcase resting beside her feet. Her reflection in the tinted window looked distant, calm on the surface, unreadable underneath.
A few minutes later, the vehicle turned into a private access lane and slowed to a stop near a discreet terminal marked for executive flights.
Victor stepped out first and opened the door.
