Chapter 131 - Nothing... Again

"Is this it?" – asked the Knight, as it stopped and stared at it.

Gui turned her head around, trying to explain something. "Well, yes, it is, but unlike the others this one doesn't have a type of spirit essence. In fact, dozens have died just from touching it. This is the main reason we removed it from the front. I should wait until you become Banneret before you hear this, but a long time ago, we used to ask those willing to try wielding it, but all their souls vanished without a trace, leaving only a corpse and their armour.

So, if you become a Banneret and are looking for a blade from here, I'd suggest we look further down the line. I know a sword that will go well with your fighting style, follow me and I'll show you, it's just a little ways further down."

Then the Laurels continued walking and passed it, walking further. The Knight stood there, still not moving, starring at it. Surely this could not be its blade. It was just as dark as it's armour, rusty looking, cracked just like it. But it could sense no connection to it, not even a faint sliver.

'Another dead end huh? It makes me think – should I abandon the search for now, thinking practically… This time I am dangerously close to being butchered by over fifty level 400 memories. I don't even know if my blade is on this planet.'

They all stopped, realising the Knight was still standing back there. "Are you coming?"

'Such a wonderful blade too, no wonder that ancestor found it so profound. I really should stop following fairy tales wherever they take me. Makes me wonder, if the event wasn't coming where else would I search? A dungeon perhaps? Or maybe buried deep within the ground? No – or it could be somewhere in the clouds, I haven't seen any cloud folk, but I'm sure one of them might have seen it.

In any case, the craftsmen ship on this blade is incredible. I'm sure I can make it into something worthy for the army using [Soul Craft] just like at this feather. It's been a while since I've giving objects abilities, should be interesting.'

For that instance, the Knight was just so lost in thoughts, mostly about what to do next, and some on the fact that it had wasted a large portion of time and resources to this empty lead that it had forgotten that every sword it tried to hold by hilt turns to dust because another was already equipped. And [Greed] never made it forget everything it lost in moments of lapsed judgement.

It had forgotten this fact about it so much it had accidentally lifted the blade from the wall.

All the Laurels rushed towards the Knight, trying to stop it from vanishing – they didn't want to lose another guest in the same foolish manner.

They stopped. Stared at the Knight. And for a second, mentally digressed.

The Knight stared at the blade it was about to drop, trying to not destroy a priceless artifact of its hosts.

Both the Knight and the Laurels were just as surprised as the other. All of them stood there, doing nothing for a few minutes.

They starring at the Knight.

The Knight starring at the blade.

"He didn't vanish."

'It isn't turning to dust… is me turning swords to dust, and the sword making souls vanish somehow cancelling, or is it…'

After an exhausting silence, the Knight finally thought about trying something else. 'Maybe I should…'

The Knight then pushed its soul and void into the blade. It had expected a little resistance, or some other reaction – one affirming that it could use the blade even if it was not its own, but instead of a new connection forming – the Knight felt something completely different, completely new… a reunion, a reattachment of a forlorn missing piece. A simple but indescribable rush of unidentified satisfaction.

The Knight grinned, barring its ancient, degraded fangs. It laughed. Torturing the ears of the Laurels with it's sickening tune.

'And to think I was about to leave you here… can you believe it!? I finally found you, and I was planning on leaving you hear.' – even [Greed] had been caught off guard.
