Chapter 14 - Snow's Arrival

I was in my room with dim lights, resting. A ding sound echoed. I opened my phone, and a message appeared from the Hunters Organization — a notification to join an A-rank dungeon, sent by an unknown user.

It looked suspicious. Why would someone call me to join them? I thought for a moment and then accepted the request. Soon, I received the coordinates. The dungeon was scheduled for three days from now.

I went to the market and started looking for things. While walking, I sensed a strange aura. I looked back, but no one was there. I activated my shadow skill and disappeared into the shadows.

"So he sensed me… impressive."

A young man with a masked face appeared from a nearby street.

"Hunting you will be fun," he said and disappeared as well.

I kept wandering and didn't realize when I reached an abandoned area. Suddenly, I saw a man running toward me. His clothes were torn, and he was covered in blood. He looked terrified.

"Help me!" he shouted.

"What happened?" I asked calmly.

"Monsters—"

Before he could finish his sentence, a giant figure appeared from the corner with a huge sword in his hand.

I immediately took out my dagger and moved like a shadow. In a single motion, I killed him. His companions appeared from behind, and behind them stood another giant monster.

I moved like lightning covered in dark aura and started killing them one by one. Their bodies fell to the ground.

Now I was standing in front of the boss monster.

I felt nothing. Killing monsters had become common for me.

I dashed forward and attacked him with my dagger, but he blocked it with his axe and started pushing me back. Pressure increased, and my daggers started cracking.

I moved back and used mana bullets and shadow lightning. A beam of dark energy hit his chest, and the bullets struck at the same time. A hole appeared in his chest, and he fell down.

I started moving toward the human survivor.

Suddenly, strange smoke began to emit from the boss's body. It covered him, and he stood up again. Before he could heal completely, I charged forward with my daggers and used dark slash, destroying his core. My daggers broke instantly.

A notification window appeared.

Level increased to 54.

A new skill appeared on the screen.

Authority of Shadows — This skill allows me to control all shadows within a specific radius.

I also noticed that I had many stat points from the tower that I had not distributed yet. I started adding them to my stats.

While I was doing that, a voice came from behind.

"Thank you, sir."

I looked toward him but said nothing. He might have been wondering why I was pointing my fingers in the air.

He introduced himself as Charlie. He told me that he was passing by when he saw a dungeon gate in the abandoned area break open and monsters started coming out. He also told me that a couple was there when the dungeon gate broke.

Hearing this, I immediately rushed toward the location he pointed at.

I activated Shadow Authority. Now every shadow became my eyes and ears.

Soon, I sensed someone fighting a monster. I teleported there.

A man with deep injuries was fighting desperately. Beside him, a woman's dead body was lying on the ground, covering something.

I moved quickly and used a dark mana bullet, killing the monster instantly.

I reached the man. He was panting heavily, blood dripping from his wounds. I took out an elixir from the system, but it didn't work on him. He also realized that I couldn't save him.

He pointed toward the woman's body and asked me to protect her.

I moved toward her and saw a small child lying unconscious beneath her body.

I gently picked the child up and called the Hunter Guild.

After some time, the area was filled with media and hunter members. I explained the whole incident and told them about the girl.

I took her to the hospital.

News spread quickly about the dungeon break and the rescued girl. I waited the whole day, but no one from her family or any organization contacted me.

I entered the hospital room where the little girl was sleeping and sat beside her.

Soon, she woke up.

She slowly opened her eyes and looked around in confusion. I gently patted her head. She held my finger and didn't let go.

The moment she touched me, I sensed something.

An aura of destruction… strange visuals… voices saying:

"She is not compatible…"

Dark aura entering her body… pain… suffering… loneliness.

It felt like someone tortured me for hours.

I gave her some chocolates and introduced myself. Then I asked her name.

She looked at me and started pointing but didn't say anything.

Maybe she was too young to speak… or maybe she had some problem.

I observed her carefully.

Her skin was white like snow, and there was deep sadness in her eyes — like she had suffered something beyond imagination. Her burden felt heavier than mine.

I called the Hunter Organization and asked if someone was looking for her. They told me that no one had contacted them.

I decided to take her with me.

"Would you like to come with me?" I asked.

She nodded.

"From now on, I will call you Snow," I said.

She nodded again.

We moved outside. I took her to a park where children were playing. I thought she might enjoy it, but she didn't leave my side.

I bought ice cream for her, and we sat together and ate.

It was almost midnight.

"Snow, we are going home," I said.

When we reached home, I told my mom about Snow. I wasn't expecting her to be so happy. She immediately insisted that we go and buy clothes for Snow.

She tried to hold Snow, but Snow didn't let go of me.

At night, we went to the market and bought clothes and toys for her. After that, we went to a restaurant.

I told my mom, "I will be back in a while," and moved toward a nearby coffee shop.

Suddenly, I teleported.

A man in black robes appeared and started searching for someone.

I appeared behind him.

"What are you looking for?" I asked.

He jumped in fear.

"Sorry, sir… I was not looking for you."

Snow's expression suddenly changed. She became afraid and tried to hide her face in my arms.

Seeing this, the man released his aura.

"So you are our experiment," he said and moved forward with his weapon.

I activated Shadow Spikes. Spikes pierced his body instantly, and he disappeared.

I didn't investigate further because Snow was shaking in fear.

I took her to an ice cream shop and bought her another ice cream. She slowly calmed down.

Then we returned to the restaurant. My mom was waiting and had already ordered my favorite food.

I sat down with Snow in my lap, and we started eating.

My mom offered food to Snow with her hand, and Snow started eating. Soon, mom began feeding her like a child.

Life felt peaceful at that moment.

Watching Snow eat, especially ice cream, was strangely comforting and beautiful.

When we reached home, my mom tried to take Snow with her, but Snow refused and stayed with me. I had to share my bed with her.

In the morning, I woke up and saw Snow still sleeping.

When I tried to get up, she grabbed my hand.

I got ready and prepared her as well.

Mom was waiting for us at the table. We joined her for breakfast.

After breakfast, I tried to leave Snow with mom, but she refused to let me go.

So, I had to take her with me.
