Chapter 26 - Trial of the Cosmos

The staircase of Ascension dissolved, unveiling a vast horizon of stars. Kael and Lyra stood suspended in a cosmic void, galaxies swirling around them, constellations burning like watchful eyes. The Trialblade pulsed violently, its glow bending under the weight of infinity.

Kael squinted at the endless expanse. "Okay… this looks like the universe itself. Please tell me we're not about to fight planets."

Lyra's voice was solemn, her silver hair shimmering like starlight. "The Trial of the Cosmos. Here, the realm tests not strength, not unity, but existence itself. The stars will judge if we are worthy."

Kael groaned. "Fantastic. So basically, cosmic astronomy exam."

Nebulas shifted, forming pathways of light. Each step carried Kael and Lyra deeper into the void, where constellations whispered truths.

Kael muttered, "Great. Haunted planetarium."

Lyra gestured upward. "The cosmos reflects possibility. If we falter, the stars will erase us."

Kael smirked weakly. "Figures. Even the universe wants me gone."

Visions appeared among the stars—Kael victorious, Kael corrupted, Kael forgotten. Each constellation shimmered with futures untaken.

Kael's chest tightened. "So basically, I'm arguing with astrology now."

Lyra's eyes softened. "No. You are confronting infinity. Choose carefully."

Kael steadied his breath. "Fine. I choose stubbornness. Infinity can deal with it."

From the constellations emerged guardians of the cosmos—celestial beings forged from starlight, their bodies vast, their eyes burning like suns.

Kael raised the Trialblade. "Oh great. Boss fight with constellations. Because therapy wasn't enough."

The guardians attacked, their strikes heavy, their presence suffocating. Kael swung desperately, sparks flying, but each blow barely dented their radiant forms.

Lyra's staff glowed, weaving constellations into chains of light. "Kael! Strike when I bind them!"

Kael nodded, charging forward. He swung at the glowing fissures across their bodies. The Trialblade cut deep, light exploding. The guardians shrieked, collapsing into fragments of stars.

Silence returned. The cosmos calmed, its radiance softening. Kael collapsed, panting. "I swear, this realm is trying to kill me with cardio, therapy, teamwork, altitude, and now astronomy."

Lyra knelt beside him, her smile faint but genuine. "You endured. The cosmos accepts us."

Kael chuckled weakly. "Or stupidity accepts us. Still hard to tell."

The Trialblade pulsed, its aura shifting once more. It now resonated not only with sacrifice, unity, silence, and ascension, but with infinity—the will to exist beyond limits.
