Although Jiang He, Alexis, Jaden, and the others had won their duels and were no longer facing expulsion, Chancellor Sheppard still looked melancholy.
Before the afternoon was even over, and shortly after the Paradox Brothers had departed, rumors began to spread. Duel Academy was gaining a reputation for a "tradition" of mocking opponents to their faces after winning.
What a sin!
Chancellor Sheppard nearly fainted from grief in his office. He hadn't even dueled Jiang He, yet he was already being driven into a state of depression by the boy.
Jiang He, however, had long since put the matter out of his mind. After the duel, he continued to enjoy his leisurely life at the academy. After a refreshing wash in the evening, he returned to his single room for a comfortable rest.
As he lay down, he checked his gains for the day.
[Name: Jiang He]
[Skills: Duel Spirit Vision, Mark of the Dragon - Head, Top Clear Mind (Once per duel, draw a card that does not exist in the current deck but is owned by the user)]
[Current Decks: Exodia OTK Deck, Lava Golem Deck, Stealth Bird Deck (Underworld Burn Style)]
[Emotion Points: 1700]
"Tsk, the Paradox Brothers combined only provided 1700 Emotion Points?" Jiang He clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction.
He noted that the fake Shadow Duelist, Titan, had provided the same 1700 points by himself the night before. These two were supposedly legendary Tag Duelists, and he had even successfully cured their "Crooked-Mouthed Dragon King" syndrome. They weren't smirking arrogantly anymore.
And yet, he had only managed to farm as much "wool" from them as he had from Titan. Legendary Tag Duelists, my foot.
Jiang He's lip twitched. He silently gave them a thumbs-up in his mind. They truly are a pair of rare talentsmature and steady.
They had been playing bit parts since the era of the King of Games, Yugi Muto, and they were still the same "Fledgling Phoenixes" they had always been. They should just change their title to "Legendary Extras."
Fortunately, 1700 Emotion Points wasn't an unacceptable amount! It was at least enough to redeem a new Underworld deck from the system. However, looking at the options in the shop, Jiang He fell into the agony of choice.
[Deck: Roid Deck (Syrus Truesdale Version)] - 500 Points.
[Deck: Ojama Deck (Underworld Version)] - 1500 Points.
[Deck: Evil HERO Deck (Underworld HERO Version)] - 1500 Points.
It had to be said that all three decks were quite good. Even Syrus's "Roid" deck was included. While it wasn't as "shady" as the other two authentic Underworld decks, it was still a classic, shameless archetype. Syrus only made it look weak because he lacked sufficient skill.
If he had points to spare, Jiang He wouldn't mind picking it up as a backup. After all, with an "Inking" ability like Top Clear Mind, having more decks in reserve would never be a loss.
They might come in handy at any moment. Plus, the Roid deck only cost 500 pointsthe stingy system merchant was practically bleeding out with that discount.
But at the thought of the other two decks, Jiang He hesitated.
"I guess I'll have to see if I can farm some more Emotion Points tomorrow," Jiang He pondered while looking at the system panel.
The shop options wouldn't refresh until the day after tomorrow, so he could still wait and see. Compared to the Roid deck, the other two authentic Underworld decks were much more appealing!
Especially the "Evil HERO" deck. It felt like it was practically tailor-made for whenever he had to duel that hot-headed idiot, Jaden!
With that thought, Jiang He closed the system panel. He glanced toward the wall, through which noise was once again coming from the neighboring room, and skillfully put in his earplugs.
Beside him, even the little Sphere Kuriboh had somehow found two tiny, phantom wooden earplugs and stuffed them into its own ears...
Jiang He's lips twitched. He realized this little guy was becoming more and more like its master.
The night passed in silence.
The next morning, Jiang He yawned with boredom as he finished his usual Alchemy class. He was planning to take Sphere Kuriboh to the roof to soak up some sun, but just as he stood up, he was stopped.
Professor Lyman Banner, eyes squinted in a smile as he held his cat, waved him down. He also called out to Jaden and his friends, who had just woken up nearby.
"Jiang He, Jaden, please wait a moment. Chancellor Sheppard seems to have something important to discuss with you in his office."
"The bald principal has something important?" Jiang He was puzzled.
Jaden, Syrus, and even Alexis, who was sitting in the Obelisk Blue section, were surprised.
"Eh? Wasn't the issue about violating the rules at the abandoned dorm already settled? Why are we being called to the office now?" Jaden asked in confusion, looking toward Jiang He for an answer.
Jiang He simply shook his head. "We'll find out once we get there."
He followed Professor Banner, who was already waiting at the classroom door, toward the principal's office. Jaden, Syrus, and the others exchanged glances before following suit.
"Jasmine, Mindy, let's go check it out as well." Alexis said to her two friends, a trace of concern flickering in her eyes as she watched Jiang He's departing figure.
