The team assignment came through the board two days into my main guild registration, which was faster than I expected and slower than the system's thirty-day clock.
I had put my name on the open team list the previous afternoon, which was standard for D-rank hunters who hadn't established a regular team yet and the matching algorithm had paired me with a goblin nest clearance already in progress; three B-rank hunters who had submitted the mission and needed a fourth for the secondary sweep. D-rank support, the posting had said. Assist and observe.
I read assist and observe and understood what it meant, which was: stay out of the way and don't get hurt, because having a D-rank hunter go down on a B-rank mission created paperwork that nobody wanted.
