Chapter 81 - chapter 81: The Devourer of Compassion.

The sunlight vanished.

An enormous shadow swallowed the heavens above Elysia.

Clouds twisted into a black vortex as something colossal descended from the darkness.

The flowers surrounding Elaria's palace wilted instantly.

The air itself grew heavy.

Elaria's gentle expression disappeared.

Fear filled her ancient green eyes.

"No…"

Her whisper barely escaped her lips.

"It found us."

Kael stepped in front of Lyra, his sword igniting with crimson flames.

"What is that?"

Elaria didn't answer immediately.

She simply stared upward.

Then, with a trembling voice, she said,

"The Devourer."

A deafening roar echoed across Elysia.

The creature emerged from the clouds.

It resembled a gigantic serpent, but its body was made of living darkness. Six enormous wings spread across the sky, blotting out the sun. Thousands of crimson eyes opened along its scales, each staring in a different direction.

Its mouth stretched unnaturally wide.

Inside—

There were only endless rows of black teeth.

Rylan swallowed hard.

"I officially miss the Titans."

The Devourer opened its jaws.

A wave of dark energy swept across the forest.

Every flower touched by the darkness withered into dust.

The silver rivers turned black.

Even the air seemed to decay.

Lyra's Hope Mark pulsed painfully.

HOPE SYSTEM WARNINGVOID PREDATOR DETECTED

CLASSIFICATION: DEVOURER

THREAT LEVEL: CATASTROPHIC

MISSION UPDATE: PROTECT THE HEART OF COMPASSION

The warning vanished.

Selene's eyes widened.

"A Void Predator…"

The stranger drew his twin blades.

"I thought they were myths."

"They should have remained myths," Selene replied.

The Devourer released another earth-shaking roar.

Its crimson eyes locked onto Elaria.

Then it spoke.

Its voice sounded like thousands of whispers layered together.

"HEART DETECTED."

"COMMENCING CONSUMPTION."

Without warning, it lunged.

Its massive body crashed through the forest, destroying ancient trees like blades of grass.

Kael charged first.

Flames exploded around him as he leapt into the air.

"Stay away from them!"

His sword struck the creature's scales—

Clang!

The impact echoed like metal striking a mountain.

The Devourer didn't even flinch.

Instead, one crimson eye slowly turned toward Kael.

A beam of black energy erupted.

Kael barely crossed his sword in time.

The blast hurled him through three massive trees before he crashed into the ground.

"Kael!"

Lyra ran toward him.

"I'm fine," he groaned, forcing himself to stand.

"But that thing is unbelievably strong."

Rylan raised both hands.

Lightning exploded into the sky.

Hundreds of thunder spears rained down upon the Devourer.

The explosions shook the forest.

Smoke covered the battlefield.

For one hopeful second—

Nothing moved.

Then two glowing crimson eyes opened inside the smoke.

The Devourer emerged completely unharmed.

Rylan stared.

"I hate everything."

The creature ignored him.

Its gaze remained fixed on Elaria.

On the Heart.

Elaria slowly stepped forward.

"No."

Vines wrapped around her arms as emerald light burst from her body.

The entire forest answered her call.

Millions of flowers bloomed at once.

Roots burst from the earth, twisting into enormous vines that wrapped around the Devourer.

For a moment—

The monster stopped moving.

Hope flickered inside everyone's hearts.

Then the Devourer smiled.

A horrifying smile.

Its body dissolved into black mist.

The vines trapped nothing.

It reappeared directly above Elaria.

Too fast.

Far too fast.

The enormous jaws opened.

Elaria closed her eyes.

"I failed again…"

Before the jaws could close—

A silver flash crossed the battlefield.

Lyra.

She threw herself between Elaria and the monster.

The Hope Mark and Balance Mark blazed together.

Silver and black light exploded outward.

The Devourer slammed into the barrier.

The impact shattered the surrounding mountains.

The ground split apart beneath Lyra's feet.

Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

But she didn't move.

She couldn't.

Because behind her—

Thousands of innocent lives depended on her.

The Devourer's countless eyes stared at her.

Then every eye narrowed.

Its whisper echoed through the forest.

"THE HEIR OF HOPE."

"AT LAST…"

A chill ran down Lyra's spine.

"You know who I am?"

The creature laughed.

A horrible, broken sound.

"WE HAVE HUNTED YOUR KIND SINCE THE FIRST DAWN."

The Hope Mark suddenly grew hot.

Another memory surfaced.

Ancient battlefields.

Keepers of Hope.

Gigantic shadows consuming entire worlds.

This wasn't the first Devourer.

There had always been predators.

Waiting.

Hunting the Seven Hearts.

Waiting for Hope to disappear forever.

The creature leaned closer.

Its countless crimson eyes reflected Lyra's face.

Then it whispered the words that froze everyone.

"YOUR MOTHER DIED SCREAMING."

Lyra's heart stopped.

The world around her went silent.

"My… mother?"

The Devourer laughed again.

A cruel, echoing laugh that rolled across the shattered forest.

"ASK THE CREATOR WHY IT COULD NOT SAVE HER."

Lyra's Hope Mark erupted with uncontrollable power as forgotten memories of her childhood began breaking through the seal—revealing a truth that would change everything she believed about her past.
