Evelyn did not give up. Pushing herself off the cold stone floor, she stumbled back to her feet, driven by instinct to reach her daughter.
However, the moment she stood straight, a violent wave of dizziness hit her. Blackness swept over her eyes, and before she could take another breath, her senses vanished completely.
When Evelyn finally opened her eyes again, she was lying in a stark white hospital bed.
Alen was sitting by her bedside, while Dr. Silas Vane stood near the monitors, conducting a routine physical check.
Seeing Silas Vane immediately made her think of Michael. Evelyn's eyes widened, and without warning, she bolted upright in bed. In a panic, she ripped the IV needle right out of the back of her hand; blood instantly welling up from the vein and bolted barefoot out of the private room.
"Evelyn!"
The two men in the room gasped, instantly sprinting into the hallway after her.
