Recognizing the immediate danger of the ambush, Alexander didn't hesitate for a split second. He violently tossed the crushed flowers onto a nearby park bench and used his body to shield Evelyn, pulling her securely behind his back.
"Who are you people?" he demanded, his voice dropping into a dangerous, authoritative rumble.
"Hand over the woman standing behind you right now, and we'll ensure you walk out of here in one piece," one of the masked thugs barked in a rough, menacing tone. As he spoke, he flashed a wicked, gleaming dagger from his jacket pocket, pointing the blade straight at Alexander's chest.
The surrounding pedestrian crowd caught sight of the flashing weapon and immediately scattered in every direction, screaming and clearing the area to avoid the crossfire.
Hand me over? Evelyn's brows knit together in deep confusion and fear behind his back. Who on earth hired these people?
